Hello! My name is Elizabeth Scott and I am the English as
a Second Language (Title 111) and Migrant (Title 1, C)
Director for Shelby Public Schools. I am also the English
as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at Thomas Read and
New Era Elementary. I started teaching at Grand Rapids
Public Schools. Four years later, I started teaching here
at Thomas Read as a 1st grade teacher. I was then moved
into the ESL position, which I love! I am always interested
in hearing from our families to help improve our ESL and
Migrant programs!
I am originally from New Era, Michigan. I was raised on a dairy farm, with many other
animals besides cows. My husband and I have two wonderful children, Emma and Tyler, who
also attend Shelby Public Schools.

Hello, my name is Katie Wallace and I am so excited to
be a new addition to the English as Second Language
(ESL) program at Shelby Middle School and High
School. For the past three years I have taught in
Shelby's Response to Intervention program at Thomas
Read and New Era Elementary. It has been wonderful
having the opportunity to work with our Middle and
High School students and aiding them in their Reading
and Language Arts success!
I earned my teaching degree and am working towards
my masters from Grand Valley State University. I
have two small children at home, Flynn and Piper. They
are not of school age yet so they keep me very busy.

Hola, mi nombre es Katie Wallace y estoy tan emocionada de ser una nueva adición al
programa inglés como segundo idioma (ESL) en Shelby Middle School (Escuela Mediana) y
High School secundaria. En los últimos tres años he enseñado en Shelby Respuesta a la

Hello! My name is Angelica Lozano and I am very
honored to be given the opportunity to be the Migrant
Teacher for Thomas Read and New Era Elementary schools.
Like many families in the Shelby area, I come from a migrant
family. I was born in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and came to the
United States at the end of my fifth grade year. I
graduated from Shelby Public Schools, raised my family, and
then attended Baker College of Muskegon to obtain a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. My husband Juan
and I have three wonderful children: Carlos, a Middle School
teacher at Shelby, Miguel, a structural draftsman at Soils Structures in Muskegon, and
Arianna Ruby who is a senior at Shelby.
I have been working for Shelby Public Schools for the past 20 years, but this is my
first year as the migrant teacher. I have had the opportunity of working with many great
students, families, and teachers. I am very passionate and enthusiastic in working with

oportunidad de ser la Maestra Migrante para las Escuelas Primarias de Thomas Read y New
Era. Como muchas de las familias en la área de Shelby, vengo de una familia migrante. Nací
en Tamaulipas, México y vine a los Estados Unidos al final de quinto grado. Me gradué de

life. My family and I moved to Shelby never knowing that
Shelby was going to be our home for many years to come.
The results of having a migrant background has really
pushed my family to achieve a better future. It’s been 20

Hello! My name is Odey Ramirez. I was raised in this small
town of Shelby and have been in Oceana County for 50
years. I have been working in Oceana County schools since I
was 17 years old. I started out working with the Migrant
Program in Hart, Michigan. I have been working for Shelby
Public Schools for 15 years now as a family Advocate and
Migrant Recruiter. It is wonderful having the opportunity to
work for shelby Public Schools. I enjoy working with our
great staff.
I feel fortunate to be working in this community. I enjoy visiting the homes and getting to
know the new families that come into our district and helping the families that come into

estado en el condado de Oceana durante 50 años. He estado trabajando en las escuelas del

Hi My name is Anna Barco Morales and I
graduated from Shelby High School in 1999. I have
three wonderful boys named Isaiah, Ezekiel, and
Jeremiah. It has been exciting to have the
opportunity to be a ESL bilingual assistant for the past 15 years at Shelby. I’ve
attended Baker College for 2 years and presently attending Liberty University for
my bachelors degree in Secondary Education. I will be graduating within the next
2 years and hopefully have the pleasure to teach at Shelby Public Schools. I’m also
a lead teacher for Thomas Read Aspire program and enjoy every bit with our
students and families.
It gives my great honor to be working with our bilingual students at Shelby
and appreciate each year meeting new students as I see them as a freshman to
walking the last day on graduation day. Each year we create memories and
different experiences and that's why Shelby has been my place and hope to see

Hi my name is Claudia Beltran. I was born in
Weslaco, Tx., but coming from a family that
migrated for work, i was basically raised in
Michigan. My family decided that Michigan
was the promising state so we made it our
second home. I'm a mother of three wonderful
boys, married to a great husband, received my
GED, attended Baker College, I’m still trying to
obtain my degree in Human Services. I'm a
very social person and I love to help my students and their families. I have been a part of
the Shelby Public School family for 7 years now and each year I have had the opportunity
to meet wonderful families. My hopes are to continue helping our migrant students and
families and provide them with the services needed to better accommodate their needs,

Hola mi nombre es Claudia Beltran. Soy nacida en Weslaco, Texas. Mi familia emigró a
Michigan por trabajo so prácticamente fui criada aquí. Mi familia tomó la decisión que

Hello! My name is Christina M. Garcia. I have been
with Shelby Public Schools for 1 year. I am very
happy to be part of the Shelby Education Team. I
am the Bilingual Assistant in Shelby Middle School. I
have met wonderful students, teachers and families.
Here is a little information about me. I was born
Shelby and I was raised in Walkerville. I graduated
from Walkerville High school in 2007. I am
attending college at West Shore Community College.
My future goal is to get an Associates Degree in
Early Childhood Education. As of right now I am
teaching small groups but it is a goal of mine to
teach a classroom and me as the teacher. I have been with my husband (Alejandro Garcia)
for 10 years. I have a two daughters, Lorena and Liliana and one son, Daniel. Being a mother
is the greatest gift god can give me and being a teacher is the greatest gift I can give

año. Estoy muy feliz de ser parte del Equipo de Educación de Shelby. Yo soy el Asistente
Bilingüe en Shelby Middle School. He conocido a estudiantes, profesores y familias

Hello! I am Lizeth DeBlas. I am new to Shelby
Public Schools, I am part of the Thomas Read
Elementary staff. First off, I would like to tell
you a little about myself. I am currently a
student at Muskegon Community College
pursuing an Associates degree in applied
science. I graduated from Hart High School in
2012.
Since the age of seven, my family has worked
as seasonal farmworkers. Growing up in a
seasonal farm working and migrant family has
given me a distinctive life experience that I dearly treasure. My parents have always
encouraged my sister, two brothers, and myself to do better, so that one day we can have
a better living.

personal en Thomas Read. Antes que nada me gustaria decirles un poco sobre mi.
Actualmente soy un estudiante en el colegio de Muskegon, para obtener mi licenciatura en
