SATURDAYS TUESDAYS 8:30 am to 10:00 am 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm A ll of the seasons of the Church have a special character and tone in certain ways. Advent is a time of preparation, preparation for the arrival of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Lent is a time of penance, fasting, and prayer, in unity with the Lord in his Paschal mystery. And how about the season of Easter that we're in right now, the season that goes on for 50 days after Easter Sunday? Mystagogy! Mysta-what now? Mystagogy is the fourth stage of the "Rite of Christian Initiation" and is most appropriately speaking of the continuing post-baptismal catechesis of those who have just joined the Church at the Easter Vigil. In simpler terms, their learning is not over now that they've "fully entered" into the Church, rather it's another leg of their journey in trying to unfold the awesomeness that just happened to them, and what it means for the rest of their lives and eternity. In this respect, all of us are in mystagogy, and all of us should be trying to understand the awesomeness of what happened in the Easter resurrection. I want everyone to try imagining that they're living in the Apostolic time periods after Jesus has ascended into heaven, and that you just heard one of the Apostles preach in your town and their testimony and witness to this God-who-became-man in Jesus Christ, and that you just have to be baptized. The message of compassion and of loving your enemies and the poor and turning the other cheek when people harm you is just so counter to what you've heard your whole life, that you cannot wait to hear more and to learn more about who this Jesus Christ is, and what it meant that he died, and then rose again. Hopefully this gives you an idea of what mystagogy is, that we can't just take what we have for granted, but we have to really begin to unwrap and understand who exactly this Jesus is and what did he really do. When was the last time that you really grappled with the idea of Incarnation, that God became man, or Trinity, that God can somehow exist in three persons yet remain one, or the Eucharist, that God could really and truly become living bread on the altar right in front of our faces?! Mystagogy is a time of not only a real hunger and desire to know Christ more, it's a time of celebration. This constant encountering and grappling with the mystery of God is an ongoing journey, but it is a joyful journey, because we know that he did something so great for us and so powerful for us; even while we can't comprehend it, we know that we should be eternally grateful for it. Pay very close attention to the scriptures in the weeks to come, as the Church begins to help unravel some of the mystery in the readings and the prayers. Come into mystagogy, and encounter and enter into your faith deeper than ever before! 2711 Indian Mound Trail Coral Gables, Florida 33134 Phone: (305) 446-9950 www.cotlf.org Mrs. Irma Aguilar Business Manager & Bookkeeper Mrs. Maria Elena Chialastri Office Manager Administrative Assistant to the Pastor Mr. Luis Cuza Associate Director of Liturgical Music Mr. Juan Del Sol Wedding Coordinator Dr. Dawn Fontana Director of Liturgical Music Ms. Cecilia Miyar Administrative Assistant to the DRE Parish Coordinator of Ministries Mr. Jorge Perez Director of Advancement & Stewardship Mr. Jorge Santibáñez Director of Religious Education & Youth Ministry Mr. Milton Somarriba Church Custodian Ms. Vivian Xiqués Curator of Records Virtus Training Coordinator S .T C Ext. 314 Ext. 306 Ext. 311 Ext. 305 Congratulations to our New Catholics, who were Baptized & Confirmed at the Easter Vigil: Elena Garcia, Victor Diaz Granados, Gianni Orihuela, Yvette Torres Congratulations to our Newly Baptized: Stephen Ariel Fernandez Congratulations and God’s Blessings to those Joined in Holy Matrimony: Ext. 310 Ext. 318 Rest in Peace. Once I was dead, but now I am alive forever and ever. — Revelation 1:18a W hat will help you to believe? Today’s scripture readings tell of faith and doubt. They offer stories “recorded to help you believe,” as the passage from John’s Gospel (20:31) remarks today. There is an urgency about this. On this Second Sunday of Easter we are challenged to join the company of believers—countless men and women who witnessed the power of the apostles’ faith. There is no doubt that this power comes from Jesus Christ. The second reading, from the book of Revelation, reports John’s mystical vision of the Son of Man, who proclaims, “Once I was dead, but now I live” (Revelation 1:18). The Gospel gathers everyone but Thomas to see the Risen Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit from him. Like Thomas, we who have come along later must have faith so that we can have life. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. POPE FRANCIS - @PONTIFEX “To live Easter means to enter into the mystery of Jesus who died and rose for us.” —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Bullying - Part I / El Acoso - Parte I Excerpt from Virtus bulletin by Deacon Anthony P. Rizzuto, PhD / Fragmento del boletín de Virtus, por el Diácono Anthony P. Rizzuto, PhD First, let’s define what we’re talking about…bullying happens when someone keeps hurting, frightening, threatening, or leaving someone out on purpose. Bullying is unfair and one-sided, and may consist of hitting, teasing, taunting, spreading rumors and gossip, stealing, or excluding someone from a group. It is carried out with the intent to harm someone. It is often a repeated activity, but may also occur as a one-time event. Bullying always involves a power imbalance. The person bullying has more power due to factors of age, size, strength, support of friends, or access to resources (such as toys and other belongings), and uses this power in a deliberately hurtful way… Although national surveys indicate that childhood violence and abuse (Including bullying) have declined in recent years, research continues to illustrate that, even while declining, bullying remains a highly prevalent behavior. We will pray for our parish as we continue to celebrate the 90th anniversary.
