The Compañía Marta Carrasco is a resident company of the CCVV, the Centre Cultural Vilanova del Vallès (ENG) B.FLOWERS Press kit 10/01/2014 p4 B.FLOWERS CURRICULA VITAE ARTISTIC TEAM Marta Carrasco (Barcelona, 1963) Stage creator, performer, dancer, choreographer, theatre professor. After starting off her career working at several dance companies, in 1995 she created her first dance-theatre solo show Aiguardent (Cheap Brandy), a show about loneliness, the abyss of alcoholism, fragility and human weakness. Then, her next shows in chronological order: Blanc d’Ombra; recordant Camille Claudel (Shadow Target; Remembering Camille Claudel) (1998), a passionate homage to the French sculptress (1864-1943), Mira’m (Look at Me; They Say so Many Things) (2000), a show dedicated to beauty and imperfection, Eterno? Això sí que no! (Eternal? Not that!) (2003), which presents topics of desperation, hope and texts by Cioran (1911-1995; El Circo de la Soledad) and Dostoyevsky (1821-1881; The Dream of a Ridiculous Man). Next up the show Ga-gá (2005) sprang forth, to speak to us of the need for laughter, for special and imperfect beings, and for human survival in a world that no longer makes us laugh. J’arrive...! (2006) reminds us that the company has already spent 10 years showcasing an entire evocative universe on stage, asserting that it is essential to keep working, and moving forward. Bin & Go was the show for 2008, which saw the participation of musician Llibert Fortuny and premiered at the 2008 Temporada Alta Festival in Girona. Dies Irae; en el Réquiem de Mozart (2009) was a (macro)creation by Carrasco, in which 13 actors took to the stage to reflect and question –with great risk and beauty– that which is sacred and what is profane, to speak to us of religion and liturgy, of women, of rage, of human impotence, fear and of life. 2011’s small-format show received great praise from critics and was her 9th creation, No sé si... (I Don’t Know If...), a vital and lively plea depicted through the peculiar relationship between two very extraordinary twins. Her 10th work premiered in 2013: B.FLOWERS. Since 1996, with Pesombra, Carrasco has worked on more than 25 shows by other artists. Since she received her very first award, the 1996-97 Barcelona Theatre Critics’ Award for Aiguardent and for Pesombra, the creator has been recognised with over 20 awards and mentions, where highlights include the Catalan Government’s National Dance Award (2005), the City of Barcelona Award (2007) and the Serra d’Or Theatre Critics Award (2007) for the best theatre work, for J'arrive...! Her teachers there included: Joan Ollé, Jaume Melendres, Joan Castells, Ramon Vila, Gemma Beltran, etc. Complementary training in the subjects of theatre, dance, dance-theatre and cinema, under professionals including Enrique Vargas (Teatro de los Sentidos), Alain Denis (Shakespeare in Moviment), Agustí Villaronga, Miquel Garcia Borda, Bea Fernández (Las Santas; Espacio para la danza La Poderosa, Barcelona), Mercè Boronat. She then continued her studies at the Lomas de Zamora Municipal Dance School (1998-2000), before enrolling at the Barcelona Theatre Institute (IT) (2009 to present). He lived in Colombia for a long period of time. ‘Atypical author, he takes his creations along indomitable roads, cultivating a poetic vision of images and words, inundated with sounds and voices, smells and flavours... textures, like a single indivisible whole; alchemist on a journey of no return that eludes conventions. He lives his own paradoxes...’ ‘and once again words left me flabbergasted and without difficulty questioning myself like in a Soliloquy of Augustine. He works in the fields of cultural management, theatre, stage design and styling in all their myriad applications. Specialist in wardrobe design and creation for opera, theatre and dance, with a highly-recognised impact in the field of traditional Catalan dress. He has worked at the Teatre Lliure, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, L’Estruch and La Faràndula in Sabadell, Temporada Alta, Versus Teatre, Sala Beckett, Sant Cugat Auditorium, Granollers Auditorium, Teatre de Ponent, the Principal in Girona, Teatre Bartrina and Teatre Fortuny in Reus, and others, with dance companies with different disciplines. Regularly works at the Compañía Marta Carrasco (Dies Irae, etc.). He works with Fusic and the Ministry of Culture at the Government of Catalonia at FESCAT workshops, and with the Pere Tarrés Foundation on workshops for the festival in different geographic regions. He teaches classes at the Science Education Dance Classroom at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). At present, in addition to directing and scheduling at the Vilanova del Vallès Cultural Centre (CCVV), he continues working in the field of performing arts and other artistic disciplines. She studied industrial pattern making and grading from 1994-1997; and entered the world of footwear pattern making in 1995 at the Footwear Artisans Trade Union. In 1999 she started working at the Gran Teatro del Liceu (Barcelona), at a senior ranking in the tailoring department, and would remain at this prestigious theatre for over 12 years. She has repeatedly collaborated (2000-01) with Ankara (Pilar Albaladejo), designing a wide range of wardrobes and creating large-scale curtains, drapery and modelling. His first works in his career were predominantly in the field of painting, although he progressively started to experiment in other fields: sculpture and furniture design, among others. He especially enjoys ironwork. Some of his more recent projects, by way of example, include participating in Estampa in 2005 (with the publisher Quadrat Nou), an exhibition of his sculptures in 2006 at the Vilacasas Foundation (Palafrugell) and the creation of large-format sculptures for the Fabres-Lecina private collection (Mataró). He was an artist in 2008 with a solo exhibition at the ArtLoft Gallery (Reus). Lately he has become a regular collaborator in a wide range of different stage creations. A graduate from the Actors Studio in Santiago de Chile (1986), he studied as a Lighting Technician (1985-1986) at SIDARTE (Actors and Technicians Union in Chile) and Dramatic Arts at the Barcelona Theatre Institute (1990-1994).
