Bruce McLean Glasgow–en jaio zen (Eskozia) 1944an. Lehenbiziko
formazio artistikoa St. Martins School of Art–en jaso zuen,
Londresen, eta margogintza eta arte grafikoetan espezializatu zen.
Britainiako margolari, artista grafiko, eskultore eta performance
egile ospetsu honek, gizakiaren egoera, harreman eta komunikazio
trebetasuna parodiatzen ditu, umore britainiarra eta arte zein
burokraziaren munduari buruzko ikuspegi satiriko bat konbinatuz.
Zenbait artistek, forma objektibo formal eta hermetikoetan
oinarrituta, eskulturari buruz egin duten interpretazioaren aurka,
eskultura iragankor eta pentsamendu kontzeptualarekin
interesatzen da, lan ugari sortuz, performacea barne.
Laurogeita hamarreko hamarkadaren amaieran, artista hau

McLeanen lan edo proiektu bakoitzak adierazpen baliabide ugari
agertzen ditu, eta zirriborroak, liburuak, marrazkiak, testuak eta
hitzak biltzen ditu. Testu eta hitzak egotea bere lanaren
konstanteetariko bat da. Sintaxi dislokatu bat erabiliz,

Bruce McLean nace en Glasgow (Escocia) en 1944. Recibe su
primera formación artística en la St Martins School of Art en
Londres, especializándose en el ámbito de la pintura y las artes
gráficas.
Consagrado pintor, artista gráfico, escultor y realizador de
performances británico, parodia las condiciones, relaciones y
habilidad de comunicación del ser humano, combinando un
peculiar humor británico con una visión satírica del mundo del
arte y la burocracia. En franca oposición a la interpretación de
la escultura que han hecho algunas generaciones de artistas,
basada en las formas objetivas formales y herméticas, se interesa
por la escultura efímera y el pensamiento conceptual, creando
numerosas obras, incluyendo performances.
A finales de la década de los noventa, el artista se decanta por
la pintura y realiza grandes lienzos que evocan el entorno
escenográfico de su actividad performativa. Su actividad artística
incluye colaboraciones con arquitectos como William Alsop, que
le han llevado a realizar encargos arquitectónicos como la
explanada de Bridlington o una escuela de primaria en Lawthorne
(Reino Unido).

In the late 1990s, McLean turned to painting and created vast
canvases that call to mind the staged surroundings of his
performance work. His artistic activity includes collaborative
pieces with architects such as William Alsop, which have resulted
in him undertaking architectural commissions, among them the
promenade in Bridlington and a primary school in Lawthorne
(both in the UK).

McLean has received numerous prizes and other forms of
recognition for his work throughout his career, among them the
Pratt Bequest and the Sainsbury’s Award for sculpture, the Major
Arts Council of Great Britain Award, the DAAD in Berlin, the
Mercedes Benz Prize and the John Moores Painting Prize.

A renowned painter, graphic and performance artist and sculptor,
he parodies the conditions, relationships and communication
skills of the human being by combining a particularly British
sense of humour with his satirical view of the world of art and
bureaucracy. Openly opposed to the interpretation of sculpture
by some generations of artists, which is based on objective
formal and hermetic forms, he is instead interested in ephemeral
sculpture and conceptual thinking and has created numerous
works, including performances.
His work is held in a number of collections, among them the
following museums and galleries:
He has given lectures at the Slade School of Art, the
Rijksakademie, the Real Academia de Bellas Artes in Madrid
and the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künst in Frankfurt.
He currently teaches at the Slade.

Bruce McLean was born in Glasgow (Scotland) in 1944. He
trained at St. Martin’s School of Art in London, where he
specialised in painting and the graphic arts.
McLean’s works and projects take on a wide variety of expressive
forms, including sketches, books, drawings, writings and words.
The presence of words has become a constant in his work. In
resorting to a disjointed syntax, to the world of nonsense and
repetition, he unveils new meanings hidden by linguistic
convention and clichés.
Cada obra o proyecto de McLean desemboca en una gran
variedad de recursos expresivos e incluye bocetos, libros, dibujos,
textos y palabras. La presencia de textos y palabras se ha
convertido en una de las constantes de su obra. Recurriendo a
una sintaxis dislocada, al mundo de sinsentidos y repeticiones,
McLean nos desvela nuevos sentidos ocultos por la convención
lingüística y el tópico.

SEMINARIO MULTIDISCIPLINAR

Horario: el horario del taller será continuo de 10:00 a 19:00
horas, con un periodo lectivo de 10:00 a 14:00 y de 16:00 a
18:00 horas.
Al finalizar el seminario, se entregará un certificado a los
participantes.

Fundazioa, presenting, either by post, e–mail or fax, the
Curriculum Vitae and a short dossier including the most recent
works of the artist.
Time limit for the registration: 20 June 2007.
Price: 100 euros.

Timetable: the timetable of the workshop will be continuous,
from 10:00 a.m. to 19:00 p.m, having a school period elapsing
from 10:00 a.m to 14:00 p.m and 16:00 p.m to 18:00 p.m.
A certificate will be given to all the participants at the end of
the workshop.
