It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring others into its worship, if I invite and bring them. It will be a parish of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, of compassion, charity and mercy, if I, who will make it what it is, am filled with these same things. Therefore, with the help of God, I now dedicate myself to the task of being all the things that I want my parish to be. Amen. La Fe Debe Venir Del Corazón Faith Must Come From The Heart Primer Domingo De Cuaresma First Sunday of Lent (Deuteronomio 26:4-10; Romanos 10:8-13; Lucas 4:1-13) Algunas personas muy buenas (demasiado buenas, dicen algunos) son consideradas algo tontas. Nuestra Parroquia (Deuteronomy 26:4-10; Romans 10:8-13; Luke 4:1-13) Some people who are good (or too good, as some would say) are considered to be somewhat naïve. With their intelligence and strength, they could demonstrate that they are worth much more than the evil forces. It may seem that they are not interested and those who observe them may think that they don’t have the personality or are too weak. In reality, the opposite is happening. It is much more difficult to resist the temptation to use violence or aggressiveness than to go ahead and make a show of force. Gentleness is a much more complicated and powerful behavior than rapid response or even forgiveness. In the desert, Jesus did not want to make a show of his force and dominion. He resisted because it is not his identity or mission to make shows of powers. If he later created miracles, he did so for the wellbeing of others and not to make a show of his dominion or divinity. In the desert, Jesus remained faithful to the calling and mission he has received from his Father. If he had not done so, he could not have preached words of love, mercy, forgiveness, and peace later on, because he would not have been coherent with himself; he would be denying his own persona. For Reflection ~ Is it harder to resist passively or do I jump and cave in to my impulses of revenge and resentment? Do I feel that being passive means I am weak? Nuestra Parroquia “Feed-A-Family” Food Drive Comes to St. Eugene Did you know that Catholic Parish Outreach food pantry gave a week’s worth of groceries to an average of 9,600 people per month in 2015? Our Knights of Columbus volunteers will be handing out grocery bags the weekend of February 20/21, with an attached shopping list. Please help CPO serve the less fortunate in our community by taking a bag and returning it on of February 27th and 28th. If you have any questions or would like to help with this project, please call the Parish Office, 919 365-7114, Ext. 200. Did you know? - CPO is the largest food pantry in the Triangle - Clients are eligible to receive a week’s worth of groceries every 30 days with a referral - 73% of CPO's food is donated - CPO Distributed 2.5 million pounds of groceries in 2014 - CPO gave a week’s worth of groceries to an average of 9,600 people / month in 2015 - During Thanksgiving week 2015, CPO served 700 families - CPO met these needs with 3.5 staff people and 1,900 volunteers It’s Almost Time to Begin Festival Planning! The contest for the 2016 festival logo concept takes place this year between April 8 and April 24, with the winning entry announced on May 15. Pre-sales for the 2016 festival T-shirts featuring the new logo will take place in early June. The pre-sales period is your best opportunity to ensure that you get your preferred style, size and color. Watch for details in the parish and festival websites and the parish bulletin in late May. Do you have talents in computer graphic artistry? The festival Publicity Team could use your help (1) in late May to transform the winning logo concept into the official festival logo, and/or (2) in mid-July to produce the posters and flyers for the festival. The Publicity Team also needs volunteers to help at weekend Masses for the logo contest in April, the T-shirt pre-sales in June and/or the T-shirt general sales in early September. If you're interested in helping in any of these areas please contact the parish office or the Publicity Team Chair, Thomas Zang, at [email protected]. Mark your Calendars for Saturday, September 17, 2016 and let’s make this festival one of our best yet!
