Floral Syllabus - Clinks Agriculture Science

Course Description: Stop and smell the roses or impress your
girlfriend or mom. Students who successfully complete this class
will construct cost effective geometric designs, corsages and
homecoming mums. Special occasion designs and business
management practices are an integral part of the course which will
prepare students for a career in the floral industry.

Floral Fee: Students are asked to pay a $45 floral lab fee to help cover the
costs of the materials. Students have the opportunity to create and take home
multiple designs throughout the year. The floral fee will help cover
consumables used during the course such as: floral foam, flowers, ribbon, and
other materials. Please send either a check made to CSHS Floral Design or
cash with your student to class before September 9th.

Class Materials Needed:
• $45.00 Lab fee before September 9th
• ½” binder or folder with brads (will be kept in student’s backpack)
• 5 Tabs Labeled: History, Principles & Elements, Use & Care, Sympathy &
Special, Pricing WSs
• 50 index cards, spiral bound is ideal for the student’s project (October)
• Candy bars and such for February candy arrangement (more information to come)
LEARNING TO DO: Students are expected to participate in all classroom activities.
DOING TO LEARN: Students are expected to be prepared for all class activities. This
is not limited to a pencil or paper.
EARNING TO LIVE: In this classroom everything is earned. This includes grades and
privileges.
LIVING TO SERVE: Students are expected to respect their classmates and display the
characteristics of a leader.
Certification: Students will have the opportunity to obtain certification through the Texas State Floral
Association. Students will cover the cost of the certification which is approximately $100 or students may
apply for a scholarship.

Substitutes: From time to time I will be out of class for meetings,
contests and/or livestock shows etc. A student who is present and
does NOT complete the work when a substitute is present will NOT
be given the opportunity to make up that grade. Work must be done
in class. A zero will be recorded in the gradebook.
Floral Designs at BCYLS: Students are encouraged, but not required to enter projects in the Brazos County
Youth Livestock Show. Horticulture and Floral Designs can be entered in the Family & Consumer Science
Division of the Show. Students have the opportunity to create unique designs, show case their talents, and
possibly win prizes and scholarship money. For more information, visit www.bcyla.net.
