We celebrate our ministry and the Feast of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. Fr. Tim will celebrate then since he has inspired our theme of “surrender.” That night we have adoration to focus on asking God to give us the strength to surrender whatever keeps us from being closer to Him. Good Friday we embrace our crosses, which is a moment that can define our lives. Holy Saturday we welcome our new Catholics in Spanish and English. We are so blessed to have these people join our faith and receive their sacraments. We have a wonderful group that has really jelled well and become a tight-knit group in English. We have a large and hard working group in Spanish. It is a night that we truly celebrate our entire community! Have a Blessed Holy Week! Father Paul Palm Sunday is the final Sunday of Lent, the beginning of Holy Week, and commemorates the triumphant arrival of Christ in Jerusalem, days before he was crucified. In the Gospels, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding a young donkey, and to the lavish praise of the townspeople who threw clothes, or possibly palms or small branches, in front of him as a sign of homage. This was a customary practice for people of great respect and palm branches are a widely recognized symbol of peace and victory. The use of a donkey instead of a horse is highly symbolic. It represents the humble arrival of someone in peace, as opposed to arriving on a steed in war. A week later, Christ would rise from the dead on the first Easter. During Palm Sunday Mass, palms are distributed to worshippers, who carry them in a ritual procession into church. Because the palms are blessed, they should not be discarded as trash. Instead, they are appropriately gathered at the church and incinerated to create the ashes that will be used in the follow year's Ash Wednesday observance. The colors of the Mass on Palm Sunday are red and white, symbolizing the redemption in blood that Christ paid for the world. How frightening and humbling for these neighbors and parishioners to realize that they simply do not have any food to put on the table for themselves or their family members. For so many of us, having a full refrigerator and pantry are something we take for granted. When we are out of something, we simply run to one of the area grocery stores to buy that item. For too many in our community, that is just not possible. Food deliveries by Vincentians help many families stretch their paychecks, ease their stress and fill the stomachs of their families. Please remember these families by praying for those in need and by giving to the Poor Box. March 20, 2016 Novena to the Divine Mercy On Good Friday, 1937, Jesus requested that St. Faustina make a special novena before the Feast of Mercy, from Good Friday through the following Saturday. He, Himself, dictated the intentions for each day. I desire that during these nine days you bring souls to the fountain of My mercy, that they may draw from there strength and refreshment and whatever grace they need in the hardships of life, and especially at the hour of death. On each day you will bring to My heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy, and I will bring all these souls into the house of My Father. You will do this in this life and in the next. I will deny nothing to any soul whom you will bring to the fount of My mercy. On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My bitter passion, for graces for these souls." **(1209) 1st day: Today bring to Me all mankind, especially all sinners. 2nd day: Today bring to Me the souls of priests and religious. 3rd day: Today bring to Me all devout and faithful souls. 4th day: Today bring to Me those who do not believe in me and those who do not yet know Me. 5th day: Today bring to Me the souls of those who have separated themselves from the church. 6th day: Today bring to Me the meek and humble souls and souls of little children. 7th day: Today bring to Me the souls who especially venerate and glorify My Mercy. 8th day: Today bring to Me the souls who are detained in purgatory. 9th day: Today bring to Me the souls who have become lukewarm.
