The sea was often considered to be a reservoir of evil in the Bible. The great sea monster
Leviathan lived in the sea, and it was always trying to destroy the order of the universe and return
it to Chaos.
This view is typical of a desert people like the
Israelites. They were terrified by the sea. The story of Jonah who is thrown overboard during a
storm at sea would have been horrific to them.
This also explains why there is no sea when God
creates a new heaven and a new earth. In paradise, evil will no longer have any power over us.

Pence Collection
This Coming weekend June 27th and 28th, our
diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which provides
the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his most important charitable works. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Through
your generosity, we can cast the peace of Christ upon the world.

Baptismal Class
The exciting and meaningful experience of Baptism
strengthens our families and parish community with
God. Whether baptized as a baby or an adult, Parents
and Godparents need to attend a Baptismal class before
baptizing his or her child. Baptismal classes
are scheduled the last Tuesdays of each
month. The next scheduled baptismal class
is June 30th at 6:30p.m.

Did you know that Fray Junipero Serra was a famous teacher (Dr. Serra, or Dr. Junipero was what his students called
him at the University)? For several years following his ordination, Serra remained at Palma as both student and teacher.
He received a doctorate in theology and served as professor
of theology at the Franciscan university in Palma
fromo1744 to 1749, when he sailed to Cadiz, Spain, to full
fill his lifetime dream of being a missionary.

de bautismo antes de bautizar a su hijo o hija. Clases bautismales
