HEALTHY HABITS PROGRAMME
A third of the day is spent at the workplace
However we may pass that time, however we may work,
we can find ourselves exposed to a number of health
problems linked to our daily activities, for example, stress,
musculoskeletal or osteoarticular problems, as well as other
illnesses related to bad eating habits, such as high cholesterol,
diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular problems, obesity, etc.
Then there are accidents – whether serious or not so serious
– caused by safety issues.
This can mean for people:
• a risk of chronic illness
• pain and suffering
• a lower quality of life
• reduced performance both within and away from work.
Developing healthy habits is one of the
priority concerns for the management
of the ITURRI Group.
This ITURRI Group initiative is a project by people, for people.
In line with the group’s philosophy, people are the greatest
and most valuable asset. As such, developing healthy habits
within the group is one of the main priorities identified by
management.
To achieve this, the Human Resources department is
developing a project involving three courses of action based
on using the company itself as a place to promote changes
and spread the message about healthy practices.
1. Good eating habits.
2. Ergonomics in the workplace and exercise.
3. Safety both within and outside the company.
Among the activities that have been taking place to
promote a move to healthy habits, the following are worth
highlighting:
• a variety of information distributed about the benefits of
a good diet
• alternative healthy food options offered so that people can
have more control over what they eat
• fresh fruit given out twice a week to increase consumption
• talks to raise awareness about road safety
• encouraging social and sports activities.

Recently, the ITURRI Group has signed a collaboration
agreement with the UPO (University of Pablo Olavide in
Seville) to undertake a project with the aim of adapting
working areas to the particular characteristics of those who
occupy them. There are also moves to encourage physical
exercise through various activities that will be announced in
the coming months.
Recientemente, el Grupo ITURRI ha firmado un convenio de colaboración con la UPO (Universidad Pablo Olavide de Sevilla) para desarrollar un proyecto cuyo objetivo es adecuar el lugar de trabajo a las
características propias de las personas que lo ocupan. Por otro lado
fomentar el ejercicio físico mediante diferentes actividades que se irán
proponiendo en los próximos meses.

Dependiendo de cómo nos planteemos ese tiempo, de cómo trabajemos, podemos vernos expuestos a algunas enfermedades ligadas a la
actividad diaria como pueden ser el estrés, problemas musculo esqueléticos y osteorticulares, así como otras enfermedades derivadas de
malos hábitos alimenticios, tales como colesterol, diabetes, hipertensión, problemas cardiovasculares, obesidad, etc. Por último están los
accidentes, de mayor o menor grado, relacionados con la seguridad.
Para las personas esto supone:
• Riesgo de enfermedades crónicas.
• Dolor y sufrimiento.
• Menor calidad de vida.
• Menor rendimiento dentro y fuera del trabajo.
Fomentar los hábitos saludables es uno de
los intereses prioritarios de la dirección
del Grupo ITURRI.
Esta iniciativa del Grupo ITURRI es un proyecto de personas para personas. En coherencia con su filosofía, las personas son su mayor y más
valorable activo. Por ese motivo, fomentar los hábitos saludables dentro del grupo es una de las prioridades marcadas por la dirección.
Para ello, el departamento de Recursos Humanos está desarrollando
un proyecto con tres líneas de acción que se basa en utilizar la propia
empresa como espacio de promoción de cambios y difusión de prácticas saludables:
1. Buenos hábitos alimenticios.
2. Ergonomía en el puesto de trabajo y ejercicio.
3. La Seguridad, dentro y fuera de la empresa.
Entre las actividades que se han llevado a cabo para favorecer un cambio de
hábitos saludables cabría destacar:
• Información variada sobre los beneficios de una buena alimentación.
• Ofrecer alternativas de alimentos saludables para que las personas
tengan un mayor control sobre su alimentación.
• Repartir fruta fresca dos veces por semana, para potenciar su
consumo.
• Charlas de sensibilización sobre seguridad vial.
• Potenciar las prácticas socio-deportivas.

Accessories for thermal protection against
electric arc burns
The ITURRI Group has developed accessories for its wide range
of thermal protection clothing against electric arc burns with
two specific solutions to meet the demands of the sector.
The first accessory has been specially developed with BUFF
and Estambril using the DuPontTM Nomex® Comfort fibre.
It will give proper protection to the neck area, a part of the
body which with the kind of protective clothing normally worn
(jacket in combination with a face shield, for example) is left, in
many cases, unprotected.
This new solution is a seamless elasticated tube offering good
comfort and an appropriate level of thermal protection against
both electric arcs and fire. The design of the garment also makes
it suitable as an accessory to be worn as protection against cold
for the front and back of the neck or the head.

SATISFIED CUSTOMER / CLIENTE SATISFECHO
The under-glove is made from A+PANTHER HD 220 RI fabric,
also developed with Estambril using DuPontTM Nomex® fibres.
As well as providing increased thermal protection against
fire, the glove also offers excellent levels of breathability and
comfort. The same fabric is also used to make flameproof under
garments, complementing superbly the thermal protection
given by other electric arc protective clothing in the range of
solutions developed by the ITURRI Group.

La primera prenda complementaria es un desarrollo especial realizado con
BUFF y Estambril, a base de fibra DuPontTM Nomex® Comfort. Con ella se
consigue la correcta protección de la zona del cuello, una parte del cuerpo
que las protecciones que se utilizan normalmente (chaqueta en combinación con pantalla facial) deja, en muchas ocasiones, sin protección.
TITSA
Esta nueva solución es una prenda tubular elástica y sin costuras que
ofrece un aceptable confort y un nivel adecuado de protección térmica, tanto al arco eléctrico como al fuego. Su diseño también la hace recomendable como prenda complementaria de protección al frío para
el cuello, la nuca o la cabeza.
The 1600 drivers and middle managers who work for Tenerife
Public Transport (TITSA) will wear clothes developed by the
Clothing Division of the ITURRI Group in its next campaign.
The project aims to transform the attractive design concept
proposal into clothing that everyone can wear on a daily
basis, and that combines comfort and corporate image. The
uniforms consist of corporate branded shirts and trousers, for
both men and women, made from cotton-polyester fabric.
The client has given the thumbs up to the technical proposal
put forward by the ITURRI Group, which includes all details
relating to resistance, durability and other features of the
materials, and to the production quality of the samples sent.
The second solution is an under-glove, designed to be worn
under other protective gloves (for example, dielectric or
mechanical protection gloves).
This innovative solution offers good thermal protection against
the direct risk of burns from electric arcs (suitable for arcs up
to 4 kA and up to a maximum energy of 8.7 cal/cm2), or from
melting or burning of the outer glove caused by an electric arc.

La segunda solución es un soto-guante, diseñado para que se utilice
debajo de otros guantes de protección (p.e. guantes dieléctricos o de
protección mecánica).
El soto-guante está confeccionado con el tejido A+PANTHER HD 220
RI, desarrollado también con Estambril a base de fibras DuPontTM
Nomex® Comfort. Ofrece, junto con su elevada protección térmica al
fuego, unos excelentes niveles de transpiración y confort. Este mismo
tejido se utiliza también para la confección de ropa interior ignífuga
que complementa magníficamente las prestaciones de protección térmica del resto de prendas de protección al arco eléctrico de la gama
de soluciones del Grupo ITURRI.

TITSA
Los 1.600 conductores y mandos intermedios de los Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife (TITSA), llevarán la indumentaria desarrollada por
la División de Vestuario del Grupo ITURRI en su próxima campaña.
Se trata de un proyecto para transformar la atractiva propuesta de
diseño sobre bocetos en prendas que el colectivo pueda vestir diariamente y que concilie el confort con la imagen. El vestuario consta de
camisas y pantalones corporativos tanto masculinos como femeninos,
en tejidos algodón / poliéster.
El cliente ha valorado positivamente la propuesta técnica del Grupo ITURRI,
que incluye todos los datos relativos a resistencias, solideces y prestaciones de
los tejidos, así como la calidad de la confección de las muestras entregadas.
Esta novedosa solución ofrece una buena protección térmica frente
al riesgo directo de quemaduras por arco eléctrico (adecuada para
arcos de hasta 4 kA y frente una energía incidente máxima de 8,7 cal/
cm2) o por la propia fusión o ignición del guante exterior que un arco
eléctrico puede provocar.

Inside, there is a richly decorated chapel where mass and other
religious activities are celebrated periodically. In the actual
forge at Monlevade – operated using the efforts of slaves –
various instruments and tools were made, which were used
in the building of the property and in day-to-day work. Good
examples include the hinges, latches and door handles for the
property that are still intact today and in good working order.
After the sale of Jean Monlevade’s old properties to Belgo in
the ’20s, the Solar da Fazenda has been conserved thanks to
continual refurbishment, which means it can stand as an
emblem of the foundation of the city of João Monlevade. Today,
the property is used as a place where the company can receive
visitors and forms part of its historic heritage.

When he arrived in 1818 in the old territory of Arraial de São
Miguel (now the municipality of Rio Piracicaba), Jean Antoine
Félix Dissandes de Monlevade started building his residence,
which would later be called Solar da Fazenda Monlevade. To
help him, he employed the services of João de Figueiredo, a
well-known carpenter in the region.

Majestic, comfortable and imposing, the building came to
dominate the landscape around the banks of the Piracicaba
River. With a long balcony wrapping around all four walls, both
on the bottom and on the top floors, the Solar is a building
which is also notable for the soundness of its structure, having
rows of double joists.
Once again, this year the ITURRI Group
has supplied the uniforms for the 1,300
workers at the ArcelorMittal João
Monlevade plant – MG. Uniforms made
with 100% cotton fabric by Santista
(Tavex).

Cuando llegó a las tierras del antiguo Arraial de São Miguel
(actualmente municipio de Rio Piracicaba) en 1818, Jean Antoine Félix
Dissandes de Monlevade comenzó la construcción de su residencia,
que llevaría el nombre de Solar da Fazenda Monlevade. Para ello

For more than 12 years, ArcelorMittal
Brazil has entrusted the ITURRI Group
with the supply of all of its Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE).
Among the architectural and landscape features of the
property, the Monlevade Museum of Iron and Steel and the
Monument to the Pioneers also stand out: tributes to Belgo
and the descendents of Henri Meyers and René Heuwert,
who helped establish the first integrated iron and steel works
in Latin America.

ITURRI desde hace más de 12 años el
suministro de todos sus Equipos de
Protección Individual (EPI).
Majestuosa, cómoda e imponente, la construcción pasó a dominar el
paisaje a orillas del río Piracicaba. Con una balconada en las cuatro
fachadas, tanto en la planta inferior como en la superior, el Solar es
una construcción marcada también por la seguridad de su estructura,
con filas de vigas dobles.
En su interior hay una capilla ricamente ornamentada en la que
periódicamente se celebraban misas y otras actividades religiosas. En
la propia forja de Monlevade, operada con la fuerza del trabajo de los
esclavos, se fabricaban diversos instrumentos y utensilios empleados
en la construcción de la hacienda y en el trabajo cotidiano. Buen
ejemplo de ello son las bisagras, pestillos y picaportes de la hacienda,
que aún hoy permanecen intactos y funcionan con normalidad.
Tras la adquisición de las antiguas propiedades de Jean Monlevade por
parte de Belgo en los años veinte, el Solar da Fazenda se ha conservado
gracias a reformas permanentes que le permiten mantenerse como
marco de la fundación de la ciudad de João Monlevade. Hoy es
un espacio donde la empresa recibe visitas y mantiene parte de su
patrimonio histórico.
En el conjunto arquitectónico y paisajístico de la hacienda destacan
también el Museo Monlevade del Hierro y el Acero y el Monumento
a los Pioneros: un homenaje de Belgo y de los descendientes de Henri
Meyers y René Heuwert, a quienes ayudaron a implantar la primera
siderúrgica integrada de toda América Latina.

Safer systems for carrying out
hot works at BP Castellón
BP CASTELLÓN
Hot work safety enclosures offer numerous advantages.
Through a process of continuous improvement, the work
support and control teams at the BP Castellón refinery
have found a safer and more efficient way to carry out hot
works. Castellón is the first BP installation in Europe (apart
from those in the UK) to use closed spaces known as safety
enclosures: pressurised and flameproof mobile structures with
ventilation panels, and constant gas and pressure control.
This kind of infrastructure takes hazard management in hotwork environments to a new level.
It can be thought of as an engineering control, since it provides
containment and a physical barrier against hydrocarbons by
means of overpressure.
These safety enclosures are made of high-quality flameproof
materials which are both flexible and hard-wearing, and are
designed for use in industrial environments. Its light panels
are fitted together and the joins sealed with Velcro. The
enclosures are also fitted with an independent gas detection
and disconnection system, increasing the safety of the
personnel carrying out the work.

To erect the structures, operators need nothing more than
the scaffolding required for support.
BP CASTELLÓN
Another advantage of the safety enclosures is that, despite the
numerous benefits and the high level of technology used, the cost
is not prohibitive and the number of man-hours required to install
and dismantle them is much less than with other solutions.
These new enclosures are reusable, which means they soon
pay for themselves. They can also be recycled, so there are
environmental benefits.
They will be used in industrial plants and in loading zones.
A number of BP’s installations outside of the USA use these
enclosures, for example, in the UK, Australia, Azerbaijan,
Trinidad and in the territorial waters of Angola.

Los recintos de seguridad para trabajos en caliente ofrecen numerosas
ventajas.
Por medio de la mejora continua, los equipos de mantenimiento y
control del trabajo de la refinería de BP Castellón han encontrado
una forma más segura y eficiente de efectuar trabajos en caliente.
Castellón es el primer centro de BP en Europa (aparte de los del Reino
Unido) en emplear unos espacios cerrados denominados recintos de
seguridad: estructuras móviles, presurizadas e ignífugas con paneles
de salida y un control constante del gas y la presión.
Estas infraestructuras llevan la gestión de los riesgos relacionados con
los trabajos en caliente a un nuevo nivel.
Puede considerarse un control de ingeniería, ya que proporcionan
contención y una barrera física ante los hidrocarburos por medio de
la sobrepresurización.
Estos recintos de seguridad están fabricados con materiales ignífugos
de gran calidad, flexibles a la par que resistentes, y concebidos para
su uso en entornos industriales. Sus paneles ligeros se ajustan entre sí,
y las uniones quedan selladas mediante velcro. También cuentan con
un sistema independiente de detección de gases y desconexión que
redunda en la seguridad del personal a cargo del trabajo.
Para erigir estas casetas, los operarios no necesitan más herramientas
que los andamios necesarios para darles soporte.

Otra ventaja de los recintos de seguridad es que, a pesar de sus numerosos beneficios y su alta tecnología, no tienen un coste prohibitivo y
su instalación y retirada requieren muchas menos horas-hombre que
otras soluciones.
Estos nuevos recintos son reutilizables, por lo que se amortizan con
rapidez. También son reciclables, lo que supone una ventaja para el
medio ambiente.
Se emplearán en plantas y zonas de carga. Varias sedes de BP fuera de
los Estados Unidos emplean estos recintos, entre ellas las de Reino Unido, Australia, Azerbaiyán, Trinidad y las aguas territoriales de Angola.

commercial manager for the company BDC, which represents
us in Cuba and provides after-sales support with a fantastic
technical support infrastructure.
The Cienfuegos refinery is operated by the company
CUVENPETROL, a consortium created in November 2009.
Among its functions are, on the one hand, managing the
Cienfuegos refinery, and on the other, undertaking four
major projects:
Esta última empresa es de reciente creación. Se trata de un consorcio
entre Cuba (51%) y Venezuela (49%) para la construcción y gestión
de la nueva planta petroquímica de Cienfuegos y que está situada
junto a la actual refinería. La nueva planta se encuentra en fase de
ingeniería básica, a cargo de una empresa japonesa. Las obras se iniciarían en 2011.

This company has been created only recently. It is a consortium
formed by Cuba (51%) and Venezuela (49%) to carry out
construction and management of the new petrochemical plant
in Cienfuegos, and is located next to the current refinery. The
new plant is at the basic engineering stage, which is being
headed up by a Japanese company. Construction work will
begin in 2011.

In its continual move towards specialisation, the ITURRI
Group attended XTREME 2011 held by Williams Fire & Hazard
Control (WFHC) in Texas.
WFHC has been working for more than 30 years in the area
of large-scale fire-fighting and works closely with its partners
throughout the world. This is the case with the ITURRI Group,
which provides support and training in the oil and gas sector.
Over the course of these years, WFHC has revolutionised
strategies for extinguishing fires, taking what it has learned
about real situations and channelling these lessons through a
well-oiled engineering department. This enables them to stay
ahead in all things related to extinguishing large fires.
WFHC’s annual course allows delegates to absorb the lessons
learned through years of experience. This training is a tool
which the ITURRI Group makes available to its clients in
collaboration with Williams. The aim is to transfer this
knowledge so that it can be used in the vital preparations
that need to be made in case a real critical situation arises.

EON SPAIN, an electricity company based in the north of Spain
in Santander, has chosen the Cotex range of clothing to protect
its workers over the next few years.
Fire-fighters in the city of Granada will be the first fire brigade in
Spain to wear the new F-500 range of protective clothing.
EDP
The company EDP (Portugal), currently among the biggest
operators in the European energy sector, has introduced the
Complete Cotex Range as the uniform for its entire workforce.
The range consists of a waterproof breathable parka, polo
shirt, trousers, bomber jacket, overalls, shirt and jersey.
The client wanted to replace its current uniform – non-PPE
until now – with a complete range, having certifications
against fire hazards, static electricity, electric arcs and
soldering, and adapted to the client’s own design.
Initially, EDP introduced the Cotex polo shirt, the only PPE
garment used by the company. The exceptional protection
afforded to a worker who had an accident was fundamental
to the company deciding to work with the ITURRI Group.
Following a field test, and thanks to the offer of a uniform
adapted to the particular needs that the company wanted to
address, the agreement between EDP and the ITURRI Group
is now a reality.

A delegation from the Serbian Government visits
the ITURRI Group facilities
A delegation from the Government of the Republic of Serbia,
made of up technical personnel from the Emergencies
Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, visited the
ITURRI Group between 19 and 23 September. They visited the
group to learn about some of the most important aspects of
combating forest fires in Spain.
This initiative is part of a commercial enterprise being
promoted by the ITURRI Group in collaboration with the
Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX) and the National
Association of Industrial Goods Manufacturers (SERCOBE).
During their stay, the visitors had the opportunity to see the
central offices, the Clothing Division in Mairena del Alcor and
PROTEC-FIRE’s emergency vehicles factory in Utrera.

The Serbian delegation also visited the INFOCA team in
Aznalcóllar (Seville), where the Madroñalejo division of
BRICA (Andalusia Fire Brigade) is also based. They were able
to see the resources and measures available to the Andalusian
team for preventing and extinguishing forest fires, including
emergency work procedures and protocols.
As well as visiting the base, where members of the INFOCA
team gave practical demonstrations, the Serbian delegates
also visited the Regional Government of Andalusia Ministry for
the Environment and the INFOCA Plan Regional Operations
Centre (COR).

London Oxford Airport

London Oxford Airport is pioneering the introduction of
a new state-of-the-art fire-fighting vehicle in the UK. The
vehicle, purchased from the ITURRI Group, is being used on a
trial basis. It was shown to the public for the first time at the
“Fly to the Past” air show in Oxford on 21 August, which was
attended by 10,000 people. Airport industry professionals
were also able to see the vehicle at the beginning of August,
when a number of representatives from UK airport and
ground-handling companies attended a stakeholder briefing
on preparation for the Olympic Games.

The fire engine is constructed with a composite known as
EcoPolyFire® – exclusive to the ITURRI Group – and is lighter
than conventional vehicles. This means it can carry a larger
volume of water (11,900 litres) and has better acceleration.
EcoPolyFire® prevents rusting and is easier and relatively
cheaper to repair than alloy models.
Problems of corrosion are also significantly reduced regardless
of whether the engine carries water or foam. The new vehicle
includes a large number of solutions specifically designed
for the airport market. For example, it has a lower centre of

gravity, improving the stability of the vehicle, and increased
power (more than 700 break horse power) with a 6x6 chassis
which also has off-road capability. The new cab design offers
more space, better visibility and increased safety.
Another unique factor exclusive to the UK market is the
inclusion of an external monitor platform just behind the
cab. This provides the operator with an external space from
which to assess an emergency situation, allowing them to
pass important safety information to the rest of the crew.
“When there’s an incident at an airport, it’s important to
have a fast and powerful vehicle because the time interval
for avoiding serious injury and saving lives is very short,”
commented Mark Phillips, Chief Fire Officer at London
Oxford Airport.

particular expertise in forest fires and the fire brigade sector.
Commitment to the airport sector has been demonstrated
through investing millions of euro in the manufacturing
division. This division has been based in the outskirts of Seville
for around four years and continues to be a very important
focus for the commercial expansion of the group.
London Oxford Airport’s 23-strong full-time fire crew
increased its capability a few years ago from RFF Category
2 to the current RFF Category 6. This category is suitable for
the largest aircraft able to land on London Oxford Airport’s

a new fire station will be built to accommodate the larger
vehicles supplied by the ITURRI Group.

Mark Phillips, jefe de bomberos del aeropuerto de Oxford.
La división de emergencias del Grupo ITURRI cuenta con una
experiencia de 60 años en lo que se refiere a la fabricación de vehículos
antiincendios, y se especializa en el sector de los incendios forestales y
el cuerpo de bomberos. Su compromiso con el sector aeroportuario ha
quedado demostrado con la inversión de varios millones de euros en
su división de fabricación. Una división que está situada en las afueras
de Sevilla desde hace unos cuatro años y que continúa siendo un foco

El personal contra incendios a tiempo completo del aeropuerto de
Londres, de 23 componentes, mejoró su capacidad desde la categoría
2 RFF de hace unos años hasta la categoría 6 RFF de la actualidad. Es
adecuada para las aeronaves de mayor tamaño que pueden utilizar la
pista de aterrizaje de 1.592 metros del aeropuerto de Oxford, incluidos
los jets privados y los aviones de línea regionales de Airbus, Boeing y
Embraer. En 2012 se construirá un nuevo parque de bomberos para
alojar los vehículos de mayor tamaño del Grupo ITURRI.

Spectacular display of fire engines at Chile’s Fire-fighter
Training Centre
FIRE-FIGHTERS, CHILE
On 30 October, the Chilean Fire Brigade held a display to give
the directors of the National Committee a detailed look at the
new fire engines recently supplied by the ITURRI Group.
Representing the National Fire-fighters Committee were the
national president, Miguel Reyes, members of the national
directorate and advisors. Joining the ITURRI Group at the
display were Jaime Moreno, First Secretary of the Spanish
Embassy in Chile, and senior representatives from Comercial
Kaufmann (representatives of Freightliner and Mercedes Benz).
On show were vehicles for urban and forest environments as
well as rescue vehicles.
The event took place after a session of the Directorate and was
a relaxed affair at which ITURRI Group representatives were
able to highlight to clients the positive aspects and features of
each of the vehicles.

El pasado 30 de octubre tuvo lugar una muestra en el Cuerpo de Bomberos de Chile cuyo objetivo era que los miembros del Directorio de
la Junta Nacional conocieran en detalle los vehículos CI recientemente

Por parte de la Junta Nacional de Bomberos estuvieron presentes

After undergoing a business reorganisation, Iveco Spain
(official importer of the full Iveco Magirus product line)
has named the ITURRI Group as their authorised sales and
post-sales distributor for their range of automatic telescopic
ladders.
The presentation took place at Iveco Spain’s office in Madrid
and at the ITURRI Group’s PROTEC-FIRE installations in Utrera
(Seville). Taking part were directors from the different
companies who explained the technical features and
technological innovations of three vehicles selected for firefighting and for civil defence.

New ladder truck for fire-fighters
in Cartagena

Fire-fighters in Cartagena have received a new ladder truck with
a basket that can be raised to 37 metres, a height equivalent
to the tenth floor of a building, which is the maximum height
allowable under urban regulations in force in this municipality
since 1987.
The new truck will therefore be able to access almost all
buildings in Cartagena. The other ladder vehicle used by
the city’s fire-fighters, which can only extend to 30 metres
(equivalent to the eighth floor), will remain in service despite
being 20 years old.

Los bomberos de Cartagena han adquirido un nuevo camión escala
cuya cesta se eleva hasta los 37 metros, una altura equivalente a la de
un décimo piso que es la máxima que contemplan las normas urbanísticas vigentes en este municipio desde 1987.
Se podrá acceder así a prácticamente todos los edificios de Cartagena.
El otro vehículo escala del que disponen los bomberos de esta ciudad
sólo puede desplegar 30 metros de escalera, equivalente a la altura
de un octavo piso, continuará en activo, aunque tiene veinte años de
antigüedad.
El nuevo vehículo incorpora importantes avances tecnológicos que
permite un despliegue más rápido y preciso. Esto facilita no sólo el
auxilio a las víctimas y su evacuación, sino también la extinción de los
incendios de una forma más eficaz.
The new vehicle incorporates major technological advances
which allow the ladder to be deployed more quickly and with
greater accuracy. This makes it easier to aid and evacuate
victims, and also to extinguish fires more efficiently.
Some of the most notable technological advances built into the
new ladder truck include an electronic traction and stability
control system, proximity sensors in the basket and a video
camera which allows monitoring from below of the approach
towards a wall or the progress of a fire. This is particularly
useful when the water cannon is being controlled remotely.

The Cartagena City Government purchased the truck following
a Europe-wide tender, which was won by the ITURRI Group.
The new truck is slightly more compact than older models
despite having a longer ladder. The ladder has five sections
with the basket fitted between them.
The vehicle is a little lower than the one currently in service,
which allows easier access to tighter spots around the city.
It is also more stable than the previous ladder since it is
equipped with a system that automatically corrects any
movement or rocking of the basket.
The new ladder truck can reach a
height of 37 metres, equivalent to the

Cartagena’s urban regulations.

Esto está especialmente indicado para cuando se utiliza el cañón de
agua teledirigido.
Para su adquisición, el Ayuntamiento de Cartagena convocó un concurso a nivel europeo que ganó el Grupo ITURRI. El nuevo camión es
ligeramente más compacto que los antiguos, a pesar de tener una escalera más larga. Ésta está formada por cinco tramos y su cesta queda
empotrada entre ellos.
El vehículo es algo más bajo que el que hay en servicio, lo que permite
una mejor accesibilidad a zonas estrechas de la ciudad. También es
más estable que la anterior escalera porque cuenta con un sistema
que corrige automáticamente los movimientos y oscilaciones que pueda ir sufriendo la cesta.
Forest fires in Morocco.
Prevention and fire-fighting
Over the last 50 years, close to 13,000 fires have damaged
around 150,000 hectares of forest in Morocco. That means
an average of 3,000 hectares burned every year since the
beginning of the 1960s. This is undoubtedly a large number of
fires. The level of forestation in Morocco is very low – only 8%
– and the arid climate makes recovery of woodland extremely
difficult (reforestation, regeneration, etc.).
Each year, the Haut Commissariat aux Eaux et Forêts et à la
Lutte Contre la Désertification, or HCEFLCD (High Commission
for Water, Forests and Combating Desertification), along with
other major Moroccan organisations (Civil Defence, the Royal
Gendarmerie, the Royal Armed Forces, auxiliary forces, local
authorities, the Ministry of Equipment and Transport and the
National Airport Organisation) put into action a programme
to combat forest fires.
The programme is based on prevention, detection, alerting
and extinguishing forest fires.
The HCEFLCD gives high priority to the Management Plan for
Preventing and Fighting Forest Fires, which aims to combat and
control such disasters. Hence, it endeavours to strengthen the
technical capabilities of personnel through practical training
courses and to optimise and improve intervention equipment.
Since 1996, the ITURRI Group has supplied the HCEFLCD with
more than 200 first intervention vehicles (FIV). These are
vehicles used primarily to extinguish small rural fires and cool
the area surrounding the forest fire, and are spread throughout
the country. In most cases, they are mounted on the chassis of
a Land Rover vehicle, known for its all-terrain capabilities. They
can transport up to five people and are considered by many
industry professionals to be the best rapid-response option in
woodland areas.
In addition, this year a middle-size forest fire truck (CCFM)
mounted on a Renault Midlum chassis has been developed for
HCEFLCD.
The chassis is designed to be used by forest fire fire-fighters
and is used extensively in the French market.
The vehicle is fitted with a monitor and joystick in the cab that
allows the operator to choose the type of stream to employ,
its elevation (the vehicle is fitted with a boom) and orientation
directly from inside the cab. This is very important when

Durante los 50 últimos años, cerca de 13.000 incendios dañaron 150.000
hectáreas de bosque en Marruecos. Es decir, una media de 3.000 hectáreas se quemaron cada año desde que comenzó la década de los sesenta. Se trata, no cabe duda, de un número de incendios muy elevado.
La tasa de forestación en este país es muy débil, solamente el ocho por
ciento y el clima árido que tiene supone una gran dificultad para la reconstitución de las zonas arboladas (reforestación, regeneración, etc.).
El Haut Commissariat aux Eaux et Forêts et à la Lutte Contre la Désertification (HCEFLCD – Comisariado Superior de Aguas y Bosques y de

El HCEFLCD le otorga una importancia especial al Plan Director de
Prevención y de Lucha contra los incendios forestales, para combatir
y dominar estos desastres. Por eso procura reforzar las capacidades
técnicas del personal con cursos prácticos de formación, además de
optimizar y mejorar el material de intervención.
Desde 1996, el Grupo ITURRI ha suministrado más de 200 vehículos de
primera intervención (VPI) al HCEFLCD. Se trata de vehículos destinados principalmente a apagar pequeños fuegos rurales y enfriar la zona
que rodea el incendio forestal que se encuentran repartidos por todo
el país. En la mayoría de los casos están montados sobre un chasis Land
Rover, conocido por sus capacidades todoterreno. Pueden transportar
hasta 5 personas y están considerados por numerosos profesionales
como los mejores para actuar rápidamente en un entorno forestal.
Además, este año se ha desarrollado una Autobomba Forestal Mediana (CCFM) sobre chasis Renault Midlum para el HCEFLCD. Se trata de
un chasis diseñado para uso de bomberos forestales y se utiliza mucho
en el mercado francés.

Last month, the ITURRI Group put into service a fire-fighting

It is worth mentioning that this is the first fire engine in Poland
to be awarded the certificate of accreditation from the Józef
Tuliszkowski Centre for Scientific Research into Fire Protection,
located in Józefów.
Specialists at Józefów have
carried out tests at the manufacturing facilities and have
undertaken a technical and
organisational audit. The results were positive and consequently the certificate of
accreditation was awarded.
Testing procedures and the
facilities for rescue and firefighting vehicles have gained
recognition among the specialists at the centre.

AEROPUERTO DE MODLIN
El mes pasado, el Grupo ITURRI
puso en funcionamiento un vehículo de lucha contra incendios en
el aeropuerto de Modlin.
Cabe destacar que se trata del primer vehículo de lucha contra incendios de Polonia que ha recibido
el Certificado de Homologación del
Centro Józef Tuliszkowski de Ciencia e Investigación para la Protección Contra Incendios, situado en
Józefów.
Los especialistas de Józefów han
realizado pruebas en las instalaciones del fabricante y han llevado a
cabo una auditoría técnica y organizativa. Los resultados fueron positivos, y en base a ellos se emitió el
Certificado de Homologación. Los
procedimientos de ensayo y las instalaciones para los vehículos de salvamento y de lucha antiincendios
han ganado reconocimiento entre
los especialistas del centro.
Rafael Ángel Caballo Pérez, representante de PROTEC-FIRE, desempeñó tareas de formación en el
propio aeropuerto de Modlin para
el personal encargado del manejo
del vehículo, que protegerá al aeropuerto de Modlin y dará servicio
a pasajeros durante la celebración
de la Eurocopa 2012.
El Grupo ITURRI fabricó en julio de 2011, 9 VPI y 1 CCFM que fueron
entregados al Comisariado Superior de Aguas y Bosques y de Lucha
contra la Desertificación de Marruecos.

They rely on the most advanced technology for the storage of
material. An automated supply system which operates using
photocells and which allows pallets to be stored at the press
of a button. Everything is controlled by computer with security
systems in place. The figures are staggering: almost 27,000
pallets, 5,000 items and 10,000 orders per year. The challenge
is to respond within 24 hours and the objective to provide a
personalised service to the 80,000 soldiers who make up the
Army. We are sure they will succeed. And we will do whatever
is necessary to make sure they do.

servir de forma personalizada a los 80.000 soldados que componen el

Mantenimiento
El PCAMI es el encargado de ejecutar las tareas encomendadas por la
DIMA (Dirección de Mantenimiento) propias para el mantenimiento integral del material de Intendencia que determinan los cometidos generales
de 4º Escalón y el abastecimiento de la Clase IX (Piezas de Repuesto).
Making uniforms and flags
Anyone who has the privilege of visiting PCAMI’s facilities
(Madrid) will be able to admire in person the workshops where
they make uniforms and flags.
The first is the workshop responsible for making uniforms for
command forces and professional troops (including special
sized uniforms for military personnel), where expert hands
sew and embroider with care and attention.
The second is dedicated to making guidons, flags and standards.
It is not enough just knowing how to sew – knowledge of
heraldry is equally important.

Quality Assurance and Technical Advice
The jewel in the crown of PCAMI can be found in the office
for Quality Assurance and Technical Advice. This department
is responsible for providing technical advice to the Command
through research, design of new materials, and preparation
and supervision of technical directive specifications relating
to DISA purchases. It carries out quality control of items
purchased at the laboratory accredited by ENAC in accordance
with the UNE-EN-ISO/IEC 17025 regulation (the only one within
the Ministry of Defence) and approved by DGAM (General
Directorate of Armament and Material).
At the laboratory, our products are put through the strictest
quality control tests (permeability, peeling, tearing, strength,
elasticity, puncture resistance…). Both physiochemical and
instrumental tests are carried out. Machines are designed for
footwear, textiles and even food. Thousands of results are
studied each year. Everything is geared towards making sure
soldiers are uniformly equipped and have the best protection
possible.
The collaboration between the ITURRI Group and the Spanish
Army is legendary. The reputation of our army boots precedes
us, which generates great commitment in us and gives a high
level of responsibility. Day in, day out, we investigate solutions
to better meet end-user requirements, not only in footwear
and uniforms, but also in the bodywork for tanks, unmanned
vehicles, etc.
PCAMI frequently attends and participates in international
NATO meetings at which they are kept up to date and share
information about new developments emerging in the areas
of textiles, footwear, ballistics…

Quien tiene el privilegio de visitar las instalaciones del PCAMI (Madrid) puede admirar en persona sus Talleres de Confección de Vestuario y de Banderines.
El primero es el encargado de la confección de Uniformidad de Cuadros
de Mando y Tropa profesional, así como las tallas extraordinarias del
personal militar, donde manos expertas cosen y bordan con paciencia.
El segundo se dedica a la confección de Guiones, Banderines y Reposteros. No vale saber costura, el conocimiento sobre Heráldica es
igualmente fundamental.
Aseguramiento de la Calidad y Asesoramiento Técnico
La joya de la corona en el PCAMI está en el edificio de Aseguramiento
de la Calidad y Asesoramiento Técnico. Son responsables de dar asesoramiento técnico al Mando mediante la investigación, diseño de nuevos
materiales, elaboración y custodia de los pliegos de prescripciones técnicas de las adquisiciones que realiza la DISA. Realiza el control de calidad
de dichos artículos por medio del laboratorio acreditado por ENAC según
la norma UNE-EN-ISO/IEC 17025 (único en el Ministerio de Defensa) y homologado por la DGAM (Dirección General de Armamento y Material).
En su laboratorio nuestros productos pasan los más estrictos controles
de calidad (impermeabilidad, peeling, desgarro, resistencia, elasticidad,
perforado…). Ensayos tanto físico-químicos como instrumental. Aparatos preparados para el calzado, el textil e incluso los alimentos. Miles de
expedientes estudiados cada año. Todo pensado para que el soldado
esté equipado con la mejor uniformidad y protección posible.
La colaboración del Grupo ITURRI con el Ejército es ya legendaria. La
fama de nuestras botas de soldado nos precede y a la vez nos crea un
compromiso y alto grado de responsabilidad. Día a día estudiamos
soluciones que mejoren los requerimientos del usuario no solo para
el calzado y el uniforme sino también para carrozado de carros de

The Service Corps evolved out of more than 500 years of managing financial resources at the disposal of military
units within the Spanish Army. Due to the Army’s need for a logistical section, the military aspect of the Corps came
to be incorporated into other divisions of the Army; studying the Corps later came to be included in the curriculum
for admission to military academies and the Academy of Military Service Corps was created within the Palace of
Polentinos in Ávila. Later, after various reorganisations and other events, this came to be known as the Academy of
Military Services, the Special Academy of Military Services and the Academy of Transformation and Military Services.
Saint Teresa of Jesus has been patron saint of the Service Corps and Troops since 1915. Service Corps cadets undertake
two years of training at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza where they gain essential general military
knowledge and strengthen their spirit of comradeship and dignity which are vital for a military career. At the Military
Services Academy, over the course of a further two years, they continue their theoretical and practical specialist and
supplementary training in the field of military services in times of peace and of war. The first promotions took place in
1944 and graduates have gone on to work as troops, administrators and armoury caretakers in hospitals, operations
command headquarters, stores, vehicle bases, etc. Since the enactment of Law 17/89 of 19 July 1989, major changes
have been taking place around academic regulations, leading to a dramatic transformation of the Service Corps with
the disappearance of its troops and the reduction in the number of professional personnel.
On 21 December 1992, its Training Centre and Education Unit in Pradillo were closed. Since then, its men and women
are expected to obtain university degrees before completing their military training at the General Military Academy.
Once they have completed their training, they then provide services to units within the Ground Forces headquarters,
the Ministry of Defence, its autonomous organisations, international organisations and Spanish peacekeeping
forces.
Breve historia del Cuerpo de Intendencia
El Cuerpo de Intendencia es fruto de una evolución de más de 500 años en la gestión de los recursos económicos, puestos a disposición, para las unidades militares del Ejército español.
El carácter militar de este glorioso Cuerpo, debido a la necesidad de contar con una organización de carácter logístico, se solapa con
el del resto de los componentes del Ejército; pasando a integrarse en los planes de estudios de ingreso en las Academias militares.
La Academia del Cuerpo de Administración Militar se instaló en el palacio Polentinos (Ávila). Posteriormente por diferentes reorganizaciones y acontecimientos fue, Academia de Intendencia, Especial de Intendencia y Academia de Transformación de Intendencia.
Santa Teresa de Jesús es patrona tutelar del Cuerpo y Tropas de Intendencia desde 1915.
Los cadetes del Cuerpo de Intendencia se formaban durante dos años en la Academia General Militar de Zaragoza, adquiriendo
los conocimientos generales precios y robusteciendo el espíritu de compañerismo y dignidad propios de la profesión militar. En la
Academia de Intendencia, durante otros dos años más, continuaban su formación especializada y complementaria teórica y práctica
del estudio de la Intendencia tanto en tiempos de paz como de guerra. En 1944 salió la primera promoción y las misiones de sus
integrantes han sido: tropas, administración, depositarios en maestranzas, hospitales, comandancias de obras, almacenes, parques
de automóviles, etc.
Desde la promulgación de la Ley 17/89 de 19 de julio de 1989 se han ido produciendo cambios en la ordenación académica que han
supuesto una profunda transformación en el Cuerpo de Intendencia al desaparecer sus tropas y reducirse sus escalas de personal
profesional.
El 21 de diciembre de 1992 se cierran el Centro de Enseñanza y su Unidad de Instrucción del Pradillo. Desde entonces sus hombres
y mujeres proceden de carreras universitarias, realizando los estudios de formación en la Academia General Militar. Completados
éstos, pasan a prestar servicio en las Unidades y Órganos del Cuartel General del Ejército de Tierra, del Ministerio de Defensa, de sus
Organismos Autónomos, Organismos Internacionales y Contingentes Españoles para Operaciones de Paz.

NBC decontamination equipment for Ground Forces
GROUND FORCES
The Spanish Ground Force is implementing a procurement plan
to upgrade its NBC decontamination capability. The criteria
set out in the plan are intended to ensure that equipment is
modern, reliable and mutually compatible.
Working within these parameters, the ITURRI Group has
incorporated Cristanini equipment based on a standalone
platform and created light equipment (weighing less than
2000 kg) and heavy equipment (weighing less than 4000 kg).
At the heart of the system is a piece of equipment called
Sanijet. This technology combines pressure, saturated vapour
and hot water.
It allows decontamination of vehicles, people and surfaces.
In its role as an integrated supplier of solutions for the Army,
the ITURRI Group has spent years working towards completing
its NBC proposition, covering all aspects: detection, protection
and decontamination.
The supply of decontamination equipment complements the
recent supply of automatic breathing apparatus, reconnaissance
suits and decontamination suits and reinforces the benefits of

staff (qualified nurses, auxiliaries and porters), doctors and
maintenance staff.
Uniforms are issued to workers through vending machines due
to the diversity of the staff and the number of shifts required
to meet the needs of the centre.
The solution has been operating since last August and the hospital in Barcelona enjoys a comprehensive uniform management service for its more than 500 workers.
The hospital therefore has all processes covered in terms of
uniforms and can achieve the highest levels of quality in the collection, cleaning, inspection, control, replacement and issuing
of the garments. It has at its disposal all the necessary measures in terms of materials (machines, control software, etc.) and
personnel to ensure a completely satisfactory service.

El hospital Sant Rafael de Barcelona está interesado en que el Grupo
ITURRI cubra las necesidades de vestuario que tienen los distintos profesionales que prestan sus servicios en el centro.
Después de la experiencia con el Renting del pijama “Aire Limpio”, la
dirección de este centro ha considerado que la mejor solución para el vestuario que necesitan sus trabajadores era utilizar la misma modalidad.
En el hospital Sant Rafael existen tres tipos de colectivos: personal
asistencial (diplomados universitarios en Enfermería, auxiliares y celadores), los médicos y el personal de mantenimiento.
El vestuario se dispensa a los profesionales mediante máquinas vending, dada la diversidad de personal y la cantidad de turnos de trabajo
con la que se cubren las necesidades del centro.
Desde el pasado mes de agosto, esta solución es una realidad y el personal de este hospital de Barcelona cuenta con un servicio global para
la gestión del vestuario de sus más de 500 trabajadores.
El hospital ve así cubiertos todos los procesos referentes a vestuario
y cumple de este modo los más estrictos niveles de calidad en la recogida, lavado, revisión, control, reposición y dispensación de estas
prendas. Tienen a su disposición todos los medios, tanto materiales
(máquinas, software de control…) como personales para que el servicio sea plenamente satisfactorio.
El suministro de los Equipos de Descontaminación complementa el
reciente suministro de Equipos de Respiración Autónoma, Trajes de
Reconocimiento y Trajes de Descontaminación y refuerza el valor de
esta apuesta.

¿Cómo descubrirlo?
El pasado 10 de noviembre se celebró en las instalaciones centrales
del Grupo ITURRI en Sevilla el I Seminario de prevención de Arco
Eléctrico, dirigido a profesionales del mundo interesados en esta
materia.
On 10 November at the ITURRI Group central facilities in Seville,
the 1st Seminar on the Prevention of Electric Arc Hazards was
held, aimed at professionals around the world interested in
the issue.
The majority of those who attended (almost 100 people)
represented companies closely involved with electric arc hazards
and were members of risk prevention teams working for
contractors or electricity producers. Among the 34 companies
that participated, Endesa and Iberola, who presented one of
the talks, stand out as industry leaders.
Objective of the event: act as a meeting
point for professionals working in the
area of risk prevention and safety in the
work place.
Taking part in the other presentations were world-leading
manufacturers of technical fabrics, independent laboratories
such as Aitex and prestigious associations with a major national
presence such as ADEMI.
The objective of the event was to act as a meeting point for

in the work place. Attendees gave presentations about the
most significant hazards encountered in their work as well as

the procedures and correct actions to take when faced with
threats of this kind. Representing ADEMI was the Isastur Group,
which presented various IT tools for control and monitoring in
the prevention of risk in the workplace.
The day ended with a demonstration by Capital Safety, one of
the European members working with the coordinator of the
event, the ITURRI Group, in the area of safety when working
at height.
The day was a complete success and acted as a support platform
for initiatives aimed at developments in workplace safety and
at exchanging knowledge in this area.

La jornada finalizó con una demostración de Capital Safety, uno de
los socios europeos con los que el Grupo ITURRI, coordinador de este
evento, trabaja en el campo de la seguridad laboral en altura.
La jornada fue todo un éxito y sirvió como plataforma de apoyo a
aquellas iniciativas que buscan el desarrollo en la seguridad laboral y
el intercambio de conocimiento en este ámbito.
La mayoría de los asistentes, casi 100 personas, pertenecían a empresas muy relacionadas con el riesgo de Arco Eléctrico, formaban parte
de los equipos de prevención en empresas contratistas o productoras de electricidad. Entre las 34 empresas participantes, destacaron
Endesa e Iberdrola como líderes en el sector y a cuyo cargo corrió
una de las ponencias.
En el resto de ponencias participaron fabricantes líderes mundiales
de tejidos técnicos, laboratorios independientes como Aitex, y asociaciones de gran prestigio y presencia nacional como ADEMI.
El objetivo de la jornada era servir de punto de encuentro entre profesionales de la prevención y la seguridad laboral. Allí se expusieron
los riesgos más significativos de sus actividades, así como los mecanismos y acciones correctoras de este tipo de amenazas. Por parte de
ADEMI intervino el Grupo Isastur, que presentó varias herramientas
informáticas de control y seguimiento de la prevención de riesgos
laborales.

Working in collaboration with Expoprotection (the principal
meeting in France and the rest of Europe for the prevention
and management of risk), the security fair held in Casablanca
presented a number of companies from the protection
sector.
The ITURRI Group had its own stand where it presented an
extensive assortment of solutions for clients in Morocco: PPE,
safety footwear, corporate-branded flameproof technical
clothing and vehicles (for woodland, industry and airports).
There was also a video presenting innovative solutions for
dealing with large-scale fires and floods (Hytrans systems).

En Casablanca, ciudad en la que se encuentra la delegación del Grupo
ITURRI en Marruecos, tuvo lugar durante los pasados días 13, 14 y 15
de octubre la celebración de la Feria “Protexpo”.
En alianza con Expoprotection (encuentro referencial en Francia y Europa sobre la prevención y gestión de riesgos), en esta Feria de Seguridad celebrada en Casablanca se daban a conocer numerosas empresas
del sector de la protección.
El Grupo ITURRI ha contado con un stand propio en el que se presentó un abanico importante de soluciones para los clientes marroquíes:

Atapuerca: XIII Hospital Catering and
Cleaning Services Seminar
For another year the ITURRI Group
attended the Hospital Catering
and Cleaning Services Seminar,
which this year celebrated its
13th programme at the Palacio
de Congresos de Atapuerca
(Atapuerca Conference Centre) on
5, 6 and 7 October. In attendance
were 45 registered companies
working in the hospital catering
and cleaning services sector.
The ITURRI Group attended and
at its stand exhibited innovative
and distinctive products for the
healthcare linen and uniforms
sector. Some of the highlights
included operating theatre uniforms made of clean air fabric
that complies with the UNE EN-13975 regulation, as well as
linen and outfits for patients made from 70% cotton and 30%
chitosan, derived from chitin, which aids in the regeneration
and healing of eschars, or dead tissue, in patients. This
particular material generated a lot of interest among visitors
to the stand, with whom we exchanged experiences and
knowledge.

Un año más el Grupo ITURRI estuvo
presente en el Seminario de Hostelería
Hospitalaria, que este año celebró su
XIII edición en el Palacio de Congresos
de Atapuerca durante los días 5,6 y
7 de octubre. Asistieron 45 marcas
comerciales relacionadas con el sector
hostelero-hospitalario.
El Grupo ITURRI estuvo presente con
un stand en el que se expusieron artículos innovadores y diferenciados en el sector de la lencería y vestuario sanitario. A destacar,
el vestuario de quirófano, en tejido de aire limpio que cumple con
la norma UNE EN-13975, así como lencería y vestuario de paciente
en tejido 70% algodón y 30% quitosan, derivado de la quitina, que
facilita la regeneración y cicatrización de escaras en el paciente. Este
material despertó gran interés entre los visitantes al stand, con los
que compartimos experiencias y conocimientos.

Colleagues Virginia, Augustina, Sonia, Loli and Manoli have
become true heroines after saving two owls, which they
found inside the Textulán offices (Mairena del Alcor, Seville).
They got in touch with the local police who then contacted
the Centre for Endangered Species which took the birds
under their wing. Well done!
Salvar un mochuelo
Nuestras compañeras Virginia, Agustina, Sonia, Loli y Manoli se han
convertido en unas verdaderas heroínas al salvar a dos mochuelos
que se encontraban dentro de las dependencias de Textulán (Mairena del Alcor, Sevilla). Se pusieron en contacto con la Policía local
que a su vez contactó con el Centro de Especies Amenazadas, que
finalmente se hizo cargo de ellos. ¡Felicidades!

The secret histories of
Santa Cruz
On 12 October we had the opportunity to enjoy with our
families a different way to experience the historic centre of
Seville. Led by a guide, with various actors dressed as old
characters from Seville, who surprised us at different points
around Barrio de Santa Cruz, the Cathedral, the Alcázar
and the Murillo Gardens, we were taken on a short tour of
Seville’s history where we discovered enchantment, secrets
and legends all acted out by those characters so typical of
the city. The humour and interaction between the actors
and the audience guaranteed a fun event with plenty of
culture too.
Las Historias Secretas de Santa Cruz
El pasado 12 de octubre pudimos disfrutar junto a nuestros familiares
de una forma diferente de vivir el centro histórico de Sevilla. De
la mano de un guía y de varios actores caracterizados de antiguos
personajes de Sevilla que nos sorprendían en distintos rincones del
Barrio de Santa Cruz, la Catedral, el Alcázar y los Jardines de Murillo,
hicimos un pequeño recorrido por la historia de Sevilla, donde
descubrimos los encantos, secretos y leyendas conducidos por estos
personajes tan característicos. El uso del humor y la interactuación
actores-público, garantizaron la diversión, sin dejar de lado la
cultura.
Running for “healthy habits”
Several ITURRI Group workers took part in the XXIII
Guadalquivir Night Race on 30 September in Seville. For some
time now, they haven’t missed a single one of these sporting
events. On the back of their shirts was emblazoned the
slogan “ITURRI for healthy habits”.
The race, which attracted more than 23,000 runners, is now
the most popular sporting event in the history of Seville and
Andalusia and is a fun and festive occasion.

Septiembre en Sevilla en la XXIII Carrera Nocturna del Guadalquivir. Desde hace ya varias ediciones no faltan nunca a esta cita con
el deporte. En sus camisetas llevaban escrito a sus espaldas el lema
“ITURRI, por unos hábitos saludables”.
La carrera, en la que participaron más de 23.000 corredores, se ha
convertido en el acontecimiento deportivo popular más importante
de la historia de Sevilla y Andalucía y se desarrolla en un gran ambiente lúdico y festivo.

marathon runner
Tengo 2 hijos, Roger de 7 años y Miquel de 2, y me di cuenta de que me estaba
perdiendo muchas cosas de ellos, pues en el día a día ponía todo mi esfuerzo en
el trabajo y cuando llegaba a casa estaba tan agotado que no podía ni siquiera
leerles un cuento de buenas noches.
Hola a todos,
Por mi puesto de trabajo debo visitar a los clientes de toda la zona Noroeste, prácticamente todos los desplazamiento los realizo en coche. Antes de la
operación debía preparar muy bien los viajes porque necesitaba descansar más
a menudo y realizar pausas en la conducción cada hora u hora y media. Otro
detalle es que en el coche siempre llevaba ropa de recambio. Al ser obeso, la
sudoración se multiplica y para cada cliente que visitaba, tenía que cambiarme la
camisa. Cuando debía realizar un viaje en avión, el cinturón del asiento no podía
ponérmelo. Tenía que pedirle a la azafata el suplemento con el que realizan la
demostración antes del despegue. La lista de pequeñas limitaciones es infinita,
desde no tener calzado con cordones pues era imposible atármelos, a tener que
comprar la ropa a medida, intentar sentarme en un restaurante o en una terraza y
comprobar que las sillas se quedan pequeñas, etc.
Hello everyone,
I’m your colleague Raúl Cabrera from the Department of Uniform
Leasing in Barcelona. I’m the Key Account Manager for clients in the
north-west zone in the leasing department.
I’d like to share my personal story with all of you here so that I can maybe
help someone, just like it helped me learning about the experiences of
friends and acquaintances who had gone through the same thing as me.
I’ve been working at ITURRI for four and a half years and when I
started, I weighed approximately 125 kg (I say approximately because,
after I went beyond 110 kg, I didn’t want to know anymore what weight
I was). I was getting slowly heavier and heavier until I finally reached
approximately 155 kg in the summer of 2010. My morbidly obese state
had an enormous impact on my ability to do basic day-to-day things.
After more than 15 years of trying out all sorts of diets (all under medical
supervision) and having weighed up the pros and cons, I decided last
summer that I should go for surgery. On 23 November 2010, I underwent
a stomach reduction operation: a Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass operation,
one of the riskiest procedures carried out these days.
In all my life I’ve never been as scared as I was the day of the
operation. I still think about it today, I don’t know how I was able to
go through with it. Sometimes the people you love and the things that
are important to you (family, friends, colleagues, work) help you face
challenges that, without a doubt, you wouldn’t be able to face alone.
I have two children – Roger who’s 7 and Miquel who’s 2 – and I
realised that I was missing out on a lot with them, since day to day I
was putting all my efforts into work and when I got home, I was so
exhausted that I couldn’t even read them a bedtime story.

and almost all my journeys are by car. Before I had the operation, I
would have to plan my journeys well because I had to rest more often
and take breaks from driving every hour or every hour and a half.
Another thing is that I always had to have replacement clothes in the
car. When you’re obese, you sweat a lot more and I had to change
my clothes after every client visit. When I had to fly somewhere, the
seat belt wouldn’t fit. I had to ask the flight attendant for the extender
belt they use when they’re doing the demonstration before take off.
The list of little inconveniences is endless, from not being able to
have shoes with laces because it was impossible for me to tie them, to
having to buy specially made clothes, to trying to sit down in a bar or
restaurant and finding that the seats were too small, and so on.
It’s been a year now since the operation and I currently weigh 75 kg.
According to the medical team, the operation went very well, the
recovery has been perfect and my test results couldn’t be better. Now I
have to stabilise my weight, which should be between 75 and 80 kg.

De obesidad mórbida a corredor de maratón
Hola a todos,
Soy vuestro compañero Raúl Cabrera, del departamento de Renting Vestuario en
Barcelona. Dentro del departamento de Renting soy el responsable del servicio
(Key Acount Manager) de los clientes de la zona Noroeste.
Quisiera desde aquí, poder compartir con todos vosotros mi historia personal
para quizás ayudar a alguien, como a mí me ayudó conocer la experiencia de
amigos y conocidos que han pasado por lo mismo que yo.
Hace cuatro años y medio que trabajo en ITURRI, y entonces mi peso era
de aproximadamente 125 Kg (y digo aproximado porque desde que superé
los 110 Kg, nunca más quise saber en qué peso me encontraba). Mi peso fue
aumentando paulatinamente hasta llegar a los 155 Kg aproximadamente en el
verano del 2010. Mi estado de obesidad mórbida, me limitaba enormemente en
tareas básicas y cotidianas del día a día.
Después de más de 15 años realizando todo tipo de dietas (todas ellas bajo
control médico), y sopesar muy bien los pros y los contras, decidí el verano
pasado que debía intervenirme. El 23 de noviembre de 2010, me realizaron una
operación de reducción de estómago, un Bypass Gástrico por laparoscopia, una
de las operaciones con más riesgo que actualmente se realizan.
En mi vida he pasado tanto miedo como el día de la operación. A día de hoy,
todavía pienso en ello, y no sé cómo fui capaz de operarme. A veces las personas a
las que quieres y las cosas que te importan (familia, amigos, compañeros, trabajo)
hacen que puedas afrontar retos a los que sin duda no podrías enfrentarte tu solo.

I try to forget all about my obesity. The hypertension, the sleep apnoea
that meant I had to sleep with an oxygen machine (the CPAP)…my
blood sugar levels have fallen more than 50% (I’d almost reached the
point of being diabetic) and my heart thanks me every day because
now it can function normally. And more than anything else, the thing
I’m most proud of is that, since the day of the operation, I haven’t
smoked. All this makes me believe that I should never go back to the
situation I found myself in before.
In terms of work, I feel much more agile both physically and mentally when
it comes to making decisions or when I have to do some unusual task.
My family life has changed 100%. My self-esteem has improved, as
has the way I relate to other people, according to the people who know
me I’ve gone from being “the jolly, friendly fat guy” to being someone
who’s more active, happier and with a lot more drive.
And I’ve taken up sport. For about five months now I’ve been going
out running with friends and I’ve even done my first 10K run. Now
I’m in training for my first half marathon.
I just wanted to share my experience with all of you. All the better
if I can help someone else, both in preventing and giving advice to
colleagues who might find themselves in the same situation as I was.
I want to send a thanks to my family, friends and work colleagues for all
the support they’ve given me during this time. I especially want to thank
my wife Anna and my children, Roger and Miquel, who are the people I
love most in the world – only they know what I’ve been through.

Hace ya un año de la intervención y mi peso actual es de 75 Kg. Según el equipo
médico, la intervención fue muy bien, la recuperación ha sido perfecta y los resultados de mis analíticas son inmejorables. Ahora necesito estabilizar mi peso,
que ha de estar entre 75 y 80 Kg.
Desde que superé los 110 kg nunca más
quise saber en qué peso me encontraba
Intento olvidar por completo todo lo relacionado con mi obesidad. La hipertensión, las apneas nocturnas que me hacían dormir con una máquina de oxigeno
(la CPAP), los niveles de azúcar en sangre han bajado más del 50% (casi había
llegado al estatus de diabético) y mi corazón me lo agradece a diario pues ahora
trabaja con normalidad. Y sobre todo, de lo que también me siento orgulloso,
es que desde el día de la intervención no he vuelto a fumar. Todo esto me hace
pensar que no debo volver nunca a la situación en la que me encontraba.
Laboralmente me encuentro mucho más ágil tanto física como mentalmente, a la
hora de tomar decisiones o la hora de realizar alguna tarea extraordinaria.
Mi vida familiar ha cambiado un cien por cien. Ha mejorado mi autoestima,
mi relación con las demás personas, he pasado de ser “el gordito gracioso y amable” a convertirme, según la gente que me conoce, en una persona más activa,
alegre y con mucha más iniciativa.
He empezado a hacer deporte. Desde hace 5 meses salgo a correr con unos
amigos e incluso ya he realizado mi primera carrera de 10 Km. Actualmente me
estoy preparando para mi primera media maratón.
Simplemente quería compartir mi experiencia con todos vosotros y si puede
ayudar a alguien mucho mejor, tanto a prevenir como aconsejar a compañeros
que puedan encontrarse en la misma situación que yo me encontré.
Desde aquí quiero dar las gracias a familiares, amigos y compañeros de trabajo
por toda la ayuda que me han prestado durante este tiempo, pero sobre todo a
mi mujer Anna y mis hijos Roger y Miquel, que son lo que más quiero en este
mundo, pues sólo ellos saben lo que han tenido que soportar.

The Volvo Ocean Race, “the Everest of sailing”, is a world
regatta with legs in four continents that has been held since
1973.
The current 2011-2012 edition, which brings together six
teams, set sail on 5 November from the port of Alicante and
is expected to reach the port of Galway on the west coast
of Ireland on 7 July after 40,000 nautical miles of extreme
navigation in Volvo Open 70 yachts.
HRH the Prince of Asturias officially started the race in the
port of Alicante with the traditional starting gun from aboard
the Spanish Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel, the “Meteoro”,
accompanied by civil and military officials.
At the ceremony, the Prince wore the flameproof sea jacket
manufactured by the ITURRI Group and supplied to the
Spanish Navy for a number of years now. The garment has
been included again in the 2012-2015 multi-year uniform
supply tender, which has recently been awarded to the ITURRI
Group.
It is a weatherproof, fire-resistant anorak with a warm and
comfortable fleece lining which is also flameproof. The range
is made entirely with Nomex® fabrics, which guarantees
complete protection again fire whether on board or on land.
It also has silver reflective strips on the shoulders and hood,
making it easier to locate the wearer if necessary. Should an
accident occur, the jacket is fitted with a concealed chip to aid
the rescue effort.

also wearing an ITURRI garment – the polar wind jacket –

El príncipe vistió en la regata el chaquetón
ignífugo del Grupo ITURRI
La Volvo Ocean Race, “el Everest de la vela”, es una regata global
por equipos y con escalas en cuatro continentes que se celebra desde
1973.
La presente edición 2011-2012, que reúne a seis equipos, tomó la salida
el pasado 5 de noviembre en el puerto de Alicante y tiene prevista su
llegada al puerto de Galway, en la costa oeste de Irlanda, el próximo
7 de julio tras 40.000 millas náuticas de navegación extrema en barcos
veleros tipo Volvo Open 70.
S.A.R. el príncipe de Asturias dio la salida oficial a la regata en el
puerto alicantino mediante el tradicional cañonazo a bordo del
buque de acción marítima de la Armada “Meteoro”, acompañado de
autoridades civiles y militares.
En dicho acto, el príncipe vestía el Chaquetón de mar ignífugo que el
Grupo ITURRI confecciona y suministra a la Armada Española desde
hace años. Se trata de una prenda incluida de nuevo en el Concurso
Plurianual de Vestuario 2012-2015, que recientemente ha sido
adjudicado al Grupo ITURRI.
Se trata de una prenda tipo anorak para frío, ignífugo e impermeable,
provista de un forro tipo “borreguillo” muy confortable y cálido, e
igualmente ignífugo. El conjunto está confeccionado completamente
en tejidos Nomex®, lo que garantiza una total protección contra el
fuego, ya sea a bordo o en tierra.
Tiene también unas las bandas reflectantes plateadas en los hombros
y en la capucha que facilita la localización en el mar en caso necesario.
Precisamente para este supuesto de accidente, en la prenda se inserta
oculto un chip de identificación que facilita el rescate.
Acompaña (en la foto a la izqda.) al príncipe, el AJEMA (Almirante
Jefe del Estado Mayor de la Armada) D. Manuel Rebollo, que también
viste una prenda de ITURRI, la “chaqueta polar cortavientos”,
confeccionada en tejido GORE-TEX® Nemo tipo WIND-STOPPER®
polar, muy apropiada para actividades a la intemperie en condiciones
de ventisca, y para proteger del frío.
