Quelques interrogations de Frères et
la création toute récente de la Table
de Cuba, nous incitent aujourd'hui à
rappeler la procédure à respecter
lors de la fondation d'une Table en
pays étranger. Ces règles ont été
formulées lors du Zafarrancho
mondial qui se tint en juin 1998 à
bord du Monterey.

implantée. Dans ce cas en effet
la Confrérie locale est seule
habilitée à créer de nouvelles
Table.
Les Frères qui iront fonder une
telle Table seront munis de
pouvoirs qui leur auront été
conférés par leur Capitaine
national. Ils porteront alors le
titre d'Emissaires.
Conformément à la tradition, ils
réuniront 7 personnes qui
deviendront Frères fondateurs
de la nouvelle Table.
Ces sept personnes prêteront
serment sur l'Octalogue chilien
original et seront d'emblée
considérées comme Frères.
La nouvelle Table sera soumise
à un délai d'épreuve et

rassemblés et formulés pour qu'ils
puissent à l'avenir servir de guide à
ceux qui iront apporter les idéaux de
la Confrérie dans des terres
nouvelles.

Several queries from Brothers, and
the recent creation of the Table of
Cuba, encouraged us to recap the
procedure to follow when creating a
Table in a foreign country. These
rules have been formulated at the
World Zafarrancho which was held
in June 1998
Monterey.
on

Guidelines to be observed
when creating a Table in a
Foreign Country.
The Brotherhood welcomes the
creation of new tables in foreign
countries. However when doing so
the following principles should be
observed:
1. A new Table can only be created
in countries where the Brother
hood is not yet present. An
already existing National Table
is indeed alone empowered to
create a Table on its territory
and a new Table cannot be
opened without its consent.
2. The Brothers who go to create a
new Table must be empowered
by their National Captain and
they will have the title of
"Emissary"
3. According to the tradition, they
will bring together 7 persons who
will then be the "Founding
Fathers" of the new Table.
4. These Seven will take the oath
on the Original Octalogo, and
will
become
Brothers.
5. The new Table will be submitted to trials and observations
for two years before final
approval. During this period,
sponsors will keep a special
responsability.
6. When the Table is composed of
a majority of expatriates, they

will bear the duty of recruiting
local…citizens.
7. The new Table's act of
foundation will be immediately
sent to SECOIN for registration.
SECOIN will then officially
publish the news.
These seven principles are the result
of tradition and common sense.
They have been set progressively,
after many years of discussion, the
last time during the 4th World
Zafarrancho.
Following a wish of the Assembly
of Captains, SECOIN has arranged
them in order to serve as guidelines
to those who will want to bring the
ideals of the Brotherhood to new
lands.

di CUBA, abbiamo stimato
rilevante a ricordare il protocollo
necessario per la creazione di una
tavola in un paese straniero, che

Hermanos y a que recientemente se
creó la mesa de CUBA, hemos
estimado pertinente recordar los
pasos necesarios para la creación de
una Mesa en un país extranjero, las
que fueron dadas a conocer durante
el Zafarrancho de Junio de 1998 a
bordo del Monterey.
Principios a observar para
la creación de una Mesa en
tierras extranjeras.
Las Cofradias animadas en crear
una Mesa en tierras extranjeras se
esforzarán en observar los siguientes principios:
1. No se podrá afiliar en un país
extranjero una Mesa, si la
Cofradía está ya implementada.
En este caso es la Cofradía
local la que está habilitada a
crear nuevas Mesas.
2. Los Hermanos que vayan a
fundar una nueva Mesa serán
provistos de un poder
suministrado por su Capitán
Nacional. Ellos tendrán
entonces el título de Emisarios.
3. De acuerdo a la tradición, se
requieren 7 personas, los
que se denominarán Hermanos
Fundadores de la nueva Mesa.

Canal de Panamá, otro Director de
un importante Astillero y varios
Ingenieros.
13 Hermanos y como Patrón y lider
quedó Mario Saavedra aka “PULPO
CARIBEÑO”, Hermano y ex
Capitán de la Nao de Valparaíso
quien se encuentra radicado en esa
ciudad por un
par de años.
Esta
balsa
tendrá
un
período
de
prueba de 1
año durante el
cual
deberá
cumplir co la
reglamentació
n interna de la
Hermandad de
la Costa de
Chile,
reuniones permanentes para conocer
nuestra doctrina y zafarranchos
Durante la creación de esta Balsa, la
Ceremonia estuvo presidida por el
CN de la Hermandad de Chile CN
Luis Alberto Pellegrini aka « Mac
Gyver » y apoyada por el
Lugarteniente Nacional Renato De
Lucca aka « Abracadabra », el
Condestable Nacional Antonio
Varas aka « Toñópalo » y otros
oficiales. No nos cabe duda que con
Pulpo Caribeño a la cabeza el éxito
está asegurado y en un año más
volveremos a Panamá a fundar la
primera Mesa Internacional en ese
país.
Durante esta visita a Panamá el
piquete de Hermanos de varias
naos, acompañados también de
otros del hermano país uruguayo,
entre los que se incluía al infaltable
Creación de Balsa en la
ciudad de PANAMÁ…
Con fecha 28 de Mayo de 2016, un
gran
piquete
de
Hermanos,
bichicumas y muchachos y varias
cautivas partieron a conquistar
nuevas tierras por el mundo.
Llegaron a la Ciudad de Panamá y
establecieron ahí una BALSA con
mensuales
para
practicar
el
Octálogo, la amistad y fraternidad
entre sus cófrades. Esta Balsa quedó
constituída por los Hermanos

vió en « vivo y en directo » el paso
de barcos desde un oceáno a otro en
la esclusa de Miraflores. Participó
también de una bienvenida y primer
encuentro con la futura tripulación
de la balsa en un gran cóctel en el
Club de yates de Panamá, también
visitó el casco histórico con sus

hermosas calles y edificaciones
antiguas.
Primera Mesa en CUBA…

Sí, aunque Ud, no lo crea, el grupo
completo siguió rumbo a la Isla
donde primero pisó el navegante
genovés don Cristobal Colón en
1492.

CN y requisaron una espada de
Ceremonia de regalo para el nuevo
Capitán de la Nao de La Havana, se
hicieron las gestiones con las
autoridades para que sea retirada
por el Director del Club Náutico y
Cap de la Nao Hermano José
Manuel Díaz Escricht.
El reciente nombrado Hermano José
Miguel Díaz Escrich, rol Nr. 1 es el
primer Capitán de la Nao La Habana
y desempeñará el cargo por un
período de dos años, después de lo
cual la tripulación determinará las
condiciones de continuidad o
rotación del cargo. La siguiente es la

acuerdos tomados en la última
Asamblea de Capitanes Nacionales
efectuada en Honfleur durante el
zafarrancho FRANCE2014, solo
resta que durante 2 años esta Nao
cumpla con los requisitos exigidos

para ocupar la lista oficial de las
mesas de nuestra Cofradía.

Sunny 20th of Table
Bavaria
On occasion of 20th anniversary of
Table Bavaria, 50 Brothers and
Captives from 8 countries, Belgium,
Chile, England, Hungary, Poland,
Switzerland, the US and Germany
gathered in the historic town of
Regensburg in bright sunshine and
ideal temperatures for the whole
weekend. What a relief for the
organizers after there has been snow
not even 10 days ago!
Old friends met again and new
friendships with Pal Hody and
Captive from Hungary, Ryszard
with Maorzata from Poland and
Christian and Christine Stockhausen
from Switzerland were made. Joe
and Gail Citarella from NY Table
came over again to represent the
other side of the ocean, Thank`s for
that effort. Together, we all enjoyed
to follow an outstanding program
perfectly organized by Anette and
Rainer “Captain Coke” Rudolph
and of course Uta and Table
Captain Hannes “Speedy Gonzales”
Zauter.
Beginning with a most charming
interactive citytour after arrival,
followed by bus tour next day for
the unique Liberation Hall which is
a huge dome. The ORZA in there
with its amazing long echo will stay
unsurpassed in Brotherhood history
unless we have one in St.Peter
Rome, also impressed our surprised
guide deeply. Shipping down river
Danube through spectacular cuts
towards Monestry Weltenburg with
its world famous dark beer and
guided explenations inside the
famous barock chapel, was another
highlight.
Next day in full official dress, the
reception by the Lord Mayor, who
honoured the Brotherhood by
inviting us into the
most
distinguished room of the historical
town hall, reserved for very special
guests of the city only.
Down river Danube with “Crystal
Queen”, decorated with one
millione of Swarowski crystals
towards the Walhalla memorial. A
sunny comfortable boatride in
beautiful early spring green nature
and perfect service.
Brother Stefan Dierks and his
Captive prepared a big surprise to
all of us after landing, by organizing
a real cannon on a lafette for an
ORZA with 3 proper FUEGOS,
which strongly confused bypassing
cyclists and turned the landscape
into dense fog. Very much
appreciated was the treat, both gave
us after returning from Walhalla by
serving cold Champagne, Water,
Juices and fresh buttered bread,
before
shipping
back
to
Regensburg.
Festive evening with Bavarian food
at its best again (Schaeufele),
speeches, presents music and fun
amoungst the best company you can
imagine,
called
the
BROTHERHOOD.
Next morning, Sunday 11:00,
Brothers and Captives who were not
forced to leave early for their plain
etc., gathered in Uta`s and Hannes
new garden to celebrate Hannes
Birthday. Joe and Gail had some
more days to spend and were taken
on individual brotherly excursions
into the Bavarian forest with fresh
green contrasting with the bright
yellow of the rape fields.
As already on occasion of
celebrating the 10th anniversary of
Berlin-Potsdam Table in December,
this time as the national Captain
Germany, I do say thank You
Brothers from BAVARIA TABLE
for organizing these wonderful days
in the real mood of Brotherhood and
personal care to our guests even into
finest details.

NEW ZEALAND
Albeit small, The New Zealand
Brotherhood of the Coast is thriving
and growing. We now have 21
active brothers, several enthusiastic
prospects, plus our Honourable
Brother, Bernard Lefebre. Four
brothers are currently sailing abroad
in Australia, Turkey, France, and
the High Seas. Sadly, we lost our
beloved brother, 360, to cancer this
past year.
We continue to enjoy a special
relationship with our brothers from
Tahiti and New Caledonia. In
March we held our annual BOC
Fishing Contest in the beautiful Bay
of Islands. Claude ( La Frigate) and
Anne Rigal, on the Tahitian
catamaran Moemiti joined us, as
did Raymond (Chadburn) and
Veronique Proner from New
Caledonia on board their Hanse 43,
Silage. The fish were plentiful, the
lobsters enormous, the amber fluids
flowing, and a good time was had
by all over a lovely weekend.
On June 18th, we will rendezvous by
boat in Parua Bay for a BOC
meeting and social event. We
expect 8-10 vessels with the
cannons roaring.
We will hold our annual
Zaffarancho on November 26th in
Whangarei, on the North Island.
Visitors from New Caledonia,
Tahiti, and possibly Australia will
join us. For any foreign brothers
interested in attending, please notify
us as soon as possible so we can
accommodate the numbers.
We are proud of our beautiful
country and love to share it with our
brothers from abroad. Or, as stated
in article three of the Octalog,
“Receive in your boat the Brother
who visits you; offer him food from
your table and the best hammock in
your cabin.”

Nieuport
l’honneur
d’organiser
notre
Branle-Bas
National biannal. Plus de 80 frères
avaient répondu à l’appel et ce fut
l’occasion
de
savourer
le
dynamisme de nos six tables de
Belgique.
Chaque table a présenté ses
nouveaux Frères et engagés arrivés
durant les deux dernières années.
Toutes confondues, les tables
présentèrent
une
trentaine
d’Engagés.
Cette présence massive d’Engagés a
poussé notre Grand Frère National à
rappeler qu’au début les engagés
sont enthousiastes et se démènent
pour leur table mais une fois Frère,
l’enthousiasme
chez
certains
diminue comme par enchantement.
Aussi demanda- t’il aux engagés qui
auront peut-être l’honneur de faire
partie de notre Confrérie de ne pas
perdre ce premier élan. Tous les
engagés furent alors conviés à
réciter en chœur l’Octalogue dans
un calme impressionnant.
Tous les Grand Frères nous firent
l’honneur d’un OrzAaaa dont même
un en Liégeois. Ce Branle-Bas
National de haute tenue, se clôtura
par un exposé du «Gardien des
Hautes Œuvres» qui ponctua son
exposé en déclarant, que «les Frères
sont des marins sérieux qui ne se
prennent pas au sérieux», tout le
monde acquiesça et notre Grand
Frère National eu le mot de la fin en
donnant rendez-vous à tous, au mois
de mai, à l’occasion du Branle-Bas

Bruxelles.
Avant de partir, la tenancière des
lieux me demanda « C’est toujours
aussi bruyant vos réunions ? En
tous cas vous aviez l’air de bien
vous amuser !! Vous pouvez revenir
quand vous voulez » …… OUF

From Jane Protzman: The NY
Table's
Andrzej
and
Irena
Bienkowski hosted their Annual
Polish Brunch at their home in New
Jersey on March 13. We visited
Andrzej’s collection of Polish
sabers, swords and cutlasses,
smelled
his
newly acquired
“camphor wood” treasure chest and
looked at historical photographs of
when he was boarded and
“welcomed” by the US Coast Guard
and Immigration.
Andre was the navigator of a 35’
steel yacht which he and 3 other
Polish sailors were commissioned to
deliver to Poland from Greece.
When they got to Gibraltar, they
asked themselves “Why should we
sail back to Poland?”. They bought
navigational aids and food, sailed to
Bermuda and then Andre navigated
direct to Port Elizabeth at night
which aggravated the Coasties, who
impounded the vessel and crew for
a while.
We dug hard into his reserve of
Vodka and we raised a series of
Orza’s to wish him fair winds and
safe passage. He flew to Buenos
Aires, meeting with Brothers there
and then on to Ushuaia, Argentina.
From Ushuaia he boarded a yawl to
sail the double rounding of Cape
Horn. Andrzej encountered winds of
58 knots (a summer breeze at the
Cape) during the rounding and met

Boucan was held at the home of
Knothead. Nefarious plotting and
planning took place, as always.
Alcohol might have been involved Arrrg!! In April we held a Boucan
at the home of our engage, Keith
Hargrove and his Captive Lynn.
Fish were fried, lies were told,
problems solved, and a good time
had by all.

Gail and I traveled to Germany to
attend the 20th Anniversary
Celebration of the Bavarian Table in
Regensburg, hosted by Hannes and
Uta Zauter. We started with a visit
to Hamburg staying with our good
friends Konrad and Wiebke
Rippmann for a few days and then
on to Regensburg by train.
The medieval center of Regensburg

and a testimony of the city's status
as the cultural center of southern
Germany in the Middle Ages. Uta
played tour guide for the attendees,
showing them the town's heritage
and history. The next day we visited
Befreiungshalle in Kelheim, a
monument to commemorate the
victories against Napolean during
the Wars of Liberation that lasted
from 1813 to 1815. We then
traveled by boat on the Danube to
the Benedictine Weltenburg Abbey,
founded by monks in 617 AD and is
the oldest monastery in Bavaria.

having been in operation since

“The Cinco de Mayo Shrimp Boil”
was the Corpus Table’s main spring
event. There was an excellent turn
out for this annual Boucan at
Brother Walrus’s marina. Twenty
One Brothers, captives and guests
were in attendance. The food was
awesome and abundant. No animals
except shrimp and sausage (not sure
about the sausage) were injured in
planning or execution of this event.

The next day we met with
Regensburg's Mayor at the Old City
Hall which dates in part from the
14th century. After the reception, we
then traveled by boat to Walhalla, a
memorial above the Danube River
modeled after the Parthenon which
honors the great figures and events
in German history, not only for
warriors but also for scientists,
writers, and clerics. It is quite a

sight, perched in a hill above the
Danube.
That evening we then assembled for
the Zaf at a local restaurant and
after many Orzas, ate and drank our
way through the evening and raised
our glasses to commemorate the
Bavarian 20th Anniversary. It was
wonderful to meet old friends and
make new ones during this
memorable Zaf.
We then spent some additional time
touring Bavaria with Heinz and
Brigette Scheel. It was quite lovely
to see the Black Forest. On the way
I spotted church in the small village
of Lohberg and we stopped to take a
look. The church was lovely but
what was quite memorable was the
small monument which was a
memorial to the soldiers that had
fallen during the war. We have all
seen these monuments in every
country and it's a chilling reminder
of the toll exacted on this small
Bavarian village and other small
villages worldwide.
I am indebted to my great friends
for taking the time to show us this
wonderful part of Germany, and
particularly indebted to Hannes and
Uta for opening their home and
hearts to us, making this a most
memorable trip.

Antecedentes Históricos
En
1946
se
presentó
un
anteproyecto de nave mixta, con
aparejo de bergantín goleta de tres
palos
y
un
desplazamiento
aproximado de 2500 toneladas, 80
metros de eslora y 4,87 metros de
calado. El Comando de Operaciones
aconsejó que se construya en el
país, en el Astillero Río Santiago,
una unidad a vela y con motor
auxiliar.
Su construcción comenzó entonces
el 13 de noviembre de 1953,
autorizada por el Ministerio de
Marina. El 11 de diciembre del
mismo año se colocaron los
primeros remaches en la quilla del
nuevo buque-escuela. Por decreto
Nº 7.922, del 27 de abril de 1956, se
le impuso el nombre de “Libertad”.
Finalmente, el 30 de mayo de 1956,
se botó el casco en el Astillero Río
Santiago. Los trabajos prosiguieron
en los años siguientes con diversas
modificaciones en su aparejo, que
quedó decidido definitivamente
como de fragata de tres palos en
agosto
de
1956.

Aún en la construcción -1961- se
designó comandante al Capitán de
Fragata
Atilio
Porreti,
con
reconocida experiencia particular en
navegación a vela. Fue el encargado
de seleccionar y adiestrar al
personal de gavieros, recurriendo
para ello a los viejos contramaestres
de la Fragata Sarmiento.
La construcción continuó hasta
1961. Al año siguiente finalizaron el
alistamiento, el aparejo del velamen
y la instrucción en puerto del
personal de gavieros, y también, las
primeras singladuras. En marzo
zarpó en un viaje de prueba. Al
dejar Puerto Madryn la sorprendió
una fuerte tormenta que sirvió como
bautismo en el mar. Regresó al
apostadero naval de Río Santiago y
el 20 de diciembre de 1962 zarpó
hacia la Base Naval Puerto
Belgrano para alistarse de cara al
primer viaje de instrucción. Durante
1962 se realizan las pruebas
generales y la recepción del buque
por parte de la Marina Argentina. El
10 de noviembre del mismo año
entró en servicio, pero recién en
mayo de 1963 tuvo su incorporación
oficial a la institución naval con la
ceremonia de afirmación del
pabellón.
El Poder Ejecutivo Nacional, por
decreto presidencial Nº 727 del 30
de mayo de 2001 nombró a la
Fragata nave embajadora de la
República.
En 2004, luego de haber navegado
centenares de miles de millas
náuticas los océanos del mundo,
inició su reparación de media vida.
Esta modernización le permitirá
mantenerse activa por varias
décadas más.
En cada uno de esos puertos,
representó a la Argentina como una
genuina
embajadora,
siendo
admirada por millones de personas.
En sus cubiertas fueron recibidos
cientos de dignatarios extranjeros y
hombres y mujeres de todas las
latitudes del mundo. Su presencia
concita una gran atracción, por lo
cual la industria nacional ha
aprovechado su estadía en puerto
para
exhibir
y promocionar
productos argentinos.
En cada viaje de instrucción son
invitados oficiales de armadas de

otras
naciones,
del
Ejercito
Argentino, de la Fuerza Aérea y de
la Prefectura Naval, lo que
contribuye a la confianza mutua y la
comprensión. También, estudiantes
universitarios y ciudadanos de
diversos lugares han surcado en ella
los océanos, viviendo experiencias
inolvidables y conociendo la vida en
el mar.
En 1966 la Fragata ARA Libertad
obtuvo la Gran Medalla por el
récord mundial de velocidad de
grandes veleros en el cruce del
Océano Atlántico Norte. Hizo la
travesía desde Cabo RACE, en
Canadá, hasta la línea imaginaria
Dublín-Liverpool, que totaliza
2.058,6 millas, en ocho días y 12
horas. La marca permanece
imbatida.
Ganó nueve veces la tradicional
Copa Boston Teapot, otorgada
anualmente por la Sail Training
Association al velero que tripulado
por más del 50% del personal en
instrucción recorra la máxima
distancia solo a vela en 124 horas.
En 1998 obtuvo el primer puesto en
la “Regata Americana” en el
circuito realizado entre los puertos
de Savannah y Green Port.
Por sobre todas las cosas, la fragata
ha sido un buque escuela. Miles de
guardiamarinas y suboficiales han
aprendido las artes del mar y de la
navegación en sus cubiertas y en sus
aulas. Cada viaje de instrucción es
un genuino ciclo académico, que
nutre de experiencia y conocimiento
a quienes tripularán los buques de la
Armada Argentina. Entre los
objetivos del viaje de instrucción, se
encuentra que los futuros oficiales
tomen contacto con diversas
culturas y hombres y mujeres de
otras naciones. Esto promueve la
más amplia comprensión de la
realidad mundial y una apertura
mental hacia la realidad que les
permitirá en el futuro una mirada
integral a la hora de tomar
decisiones. En los mares y puertos
donde flamea la bandera de la
fragata Libertad, se encuentra la
República Argentina.
Itinerario
El itinerario de este XLV Viaje de
Instrucción, a efectuarse desde el 23
de abril hasta el 05 de noviembre de
2016, incluye a los puertos de
Brasil, Estados Unidos, Holanda,
Francia, Irlanda, España, Italia,
Grecia y Uruguay, en una travesía
de 196 días de los cuales son 133
días de mar y 63 de puerto
extranjero.
Este año se cumple además el
bicentenario de la Declaración de la
Independencia de nuestro país y la
visita de la Fragata Libertad
constituye un gesto significativo en
el proceso de afianzamiento de la
presencia argentina en los puertos a
los que arriba, demostrando una
clara apertura internacional de
nuestro país.
Travesía Bicentenario
El sábado 23 de abril del 2016 del
año del Señor zarpó la Fragata
Libertad para comenzar su XLV
Viaje de Instrucción, bautizada
como “Travesía Bicentenario”, La
Nao Victoria organizó despedirla y
escoltar su salida del puerto de
Buenos Aires. Se alistaron los
veleros “Folia” con los tripulantes
los Hermanos: Norberto “Yacaré”
Jacquet, Daniel “Plastique” Arribas,
Alejandro “Drake” Hart, César
“Alemán” Urban, Haroldo “Gallo
Viejo” Zarlenga, José “Gallego”
Longueira y Luis “Guadaña” Otero;
En el velero “Nocturno” con los
tripulantes

Zarparon ambas naves de sus
apostaderos a las 5:30h de la
madrugada, el clima adverso no
acobardó a nadie y todos bien
abrigados y con sus equipos de
agua, la consigna es: izar velas con
rumbo al puerto de Buenos Aires. A
las 8:15 entraron a puerto, bajo una
fuerte lluvia, a todos nos embargó la
emoción de ver tan blanca y
radiante a la Fragata Libertad, como
fondo los edificios de la Gran
Ciudad,
lentamente
dos
remolcadores la alejaban del muelle
y la hacen girar como una bailarina
para llevarla al Canal de Norte, para
ponerle música a este baile está
sobre el muelle la Banda de la
Armada Argentina, detrás de ella
los familiares, amigos y público
saludan agitando pañuelos y
banderas, como aplausos todos los
navíos que la rodean y las que están
en puerto hacen sonar sus bocinas.
Saliendo de Dársena Norte y
pasando por el destacamento de
Prefectura
es
saludada
con
cañonazos de salva. Ya liberada de
los remolcadores va tomando
velocidad y todos los que la
escoltan van quedando atrás
viéndola como se aleja para cumplir
su
importante
misión
de
Embajadora representando a todos
nosotros ante el mundo, también de
terminar de profesionalizar a los
futuros Guardia Marinas, tarea de
tan alto prestigio que países amigos
piden cupo para embarcar a sus
marinos.

another interaction with our US
Brothers during the annual visit to
Baltimore and Norfolk with the
STATSRAAD LEHMKUHL in
November last year. This time we
had the pleasure of facilitating the
initiation of 2 Brothers into the
Anapolis table on board the ship,
which was finalized with a canon
salute in the middle of Baltimore
harbor, and several rum salutes
during the rest of the evening. A
report of the event is posted on the
US Brotherhood website, and some
photos are attached here as well. In
November we will once again call
at Norfolk, Va. and hope to have
another interaction with our Us
Brothers there. In the meantime, we
are taking in the Tall Ship's Races
from Antwerp to Lisbon, Cadiz and
A Coruna and hope to meet
Brothers from there during our port

Nao Valparaíso
En una tibia mañana de un domingo
15 de Mayo, varios Hermanos de
diferentes naos
representando todas a nuestra
Cofradía y liderados por nuestro CN
Mac Gyver, nos dimos cita en
Valparaíso para celebrar una vez
más esa gran epopeya ocurrida en
Iquique donde Prat y otros héroes
dieron su vida por defender nuestra
patria. Flamante presentación de
nuestros Hermanos, muchachos y
bichicumas.
Nao Valdivia
Una fría y nublada mañana de
sábado, no fue óbice para que un
nutrido y aguerrido piquete de
valerosos piratas, acompañados de
algunos
curiosos
“roedores”
(beachcombers),
se
hicieran
presentes para rendir el tradicional
homenaje del 21 de Mayo a
nuestros héroes de Iquique. Como
ha sido tradición a través de muchos
años, esta ceremonia e realizó frente
al ancla que la Nao Valdivia
instalara en la Costanera de
Valdivia, en el año 1974.
Las fotografías que acompañan esta
nota dan cuenta de la gallardía y
prestancia de la tripulación de la
Noble Nao, comandada por nuestro
gallardo Capitán Abolengo. Allí se
observa que fue un buen número de
piratas los que, obedeciendo la
orden del Capitán, existieron al
homenaje.
Una vez finalizado el desfile todos
compartimos un agradable boucan
en un conocido restaurante llamado
“El Galeón del Instructor” cuyo
dueño es un Hermano de la nao
Valparaíso y que lo tiene equipado
como un verdadero galeón del siglo
XVII.

Capitán Abolengo invitó a un
cafecito, para pasar el frío. Se
realizó un registro fotográfico de tal
acontecimiento,

lamentablemente oscuros designios
del destino dejaron afuera a nuestro

obstante lo anterior, se puede
observar que este importante oficial,
si está presente, como se advierte en
el resto de las fotografías.

59° Raduno di Primavera in
navigazione nel Mar dei
Caraibi
Dopo un lungo volo aereo sopra
l’Oceano Atlantico, chi da Roma,
chi da Milano, i Fratelli si sono
riuniti a bordo della nave da
crociera “Opera” della compagnia
MSC ormeggiata nel porto di
l’Havana.
Il
6 Aprile, secondo giorno
della nostra avventura cubana,
adunata sul ponte e visita alla
scoperta della città. Ci siamo quasi
tutti e i due bus si muovono di
conserva nei vari luoghi di interesse
storico.
La guida ci descrive la travagliata
storia dell'isola e la sua attuale realtà
di grande decadenza dovuta,
purtroppo, ad una scarsa o nulla
manutenzione edile, ma anche di
una società capace di una grande
forza reattiva visti i numerosi
cantieri
che
attualmente
si
incontrano attraversando la città.
La visita ci porta alle imponenti
fortificazioni spagnole che si
affacciano
sull'ingresso
della
bellissima baia e che proteggevano
con grande efficienza l'accesso al
porto con numerose batterie di
cannoni visibili ancora in loco.
Il rientro, a sera inoltrata, lascia
ancora energie per ritrovarci a
cena e nell’allegro
Il 7 Aprile, la mattina in libertà
consente ulteriori visite alla città
oppure escursioni verso il mare con
bagni e relax sulla spiaggia ma alle
17 tutti a bordo, si parte verso il Mar
dei Caraibi.
Il tempo è bello e una brezza sui 15
nodi da est nord-est inizia ad
accompagnare la nostra navigazione
che si snoda sulla costa nord
dell'isola di Cuba verso ovest e che
doppiata la Punta Cayon e
attraversato il canale dello Yucatan,
dirigerà verso est alla volta della
Giamaica.
Il 8 Aprile, durante la navigazione,
adunata dei Fratelli della Costa alle
ore 10,30 nella sala situata al 12°
piano a
poppa-nave con vista
mozzafiato sul Mar dei Caraibi, per
il C.G.e G.
Certo i ranghi sono un po' ridotti
ma
i
lavori
si
snodano
piacevolmente in un clima di serena
collaborazione e si celebra anche
l'anniversario della fondazione della
Fratellanza avvenuta il 4 aprile del
1951.
Viene conferito ai Fratelli H.M.
Ronconi Franco della Tavola di
Padova e H.M. Saggio Consortini
Emanuele della Tavola di Aci, il
titolo onorifico di “Connestabile”
con
l'applauso
corale
dell'Assemblea.
La visita del Comandante della
nave con il suo Staff ,che già ci
aveva onorato della sua presenza
nella precedente crociera in Egeo
sulla nave Armonia, ci stimola a
discussioni sulla Fratellanza e alla
ormai lunga collaborazione della
Compagnia MSC; la vista si
conclude con lo scambio dei doni e
le immancabili fotografie di rito
con. Alle 12,30 chiusura dei lavori e
tutti si ritirano nelle proprie cabine.
Alla sera, in Alta Uniforme, serata di
Gala dei Fratelli della Costa.
La cena, innaffiata da vino e rhum si
snoda
spensierata
tra
le
OOORRRZZZEEE sparate dai vari
cannonieri e culmina con un
intonato e sentito “Va Pensiero”

che chiude la serata a ora tarda tra
abbracci e saluti.
Il 9 Aprile, dopo 645 miglia di
navigazione, arrivo in Giamaica a
Montego Bay che ci accoglie con
una miriade di colori, profumi e
ritmi reggae, la foresta si presenta
rigogliosa nel suo verde intenso e
ricca di fiori.
Scoperta da Colombo nel 1494 la
battezzò Santiago e la definì la più
bella isola mai visitata; rivendicata
in seguito dagli spagnoli , divenne .
protettorato Inglese intorno al 1650.
I Fratelli si dividono nelle varie
escursioni chi, amante del mare
verso le spiagge e lo snorkeling ,
chi verso cascate e safari in
fuoristrada a stretto contatto con la
natu ra e chi alla scoperta della città e
della sua storia.
La Casa, immersa in un vasto e
curato parco fu costruita nel 1770,
è un bellissimo esempio di stile
Georgiano-Giamaicano
ed
è
famosa per la leggenda della
strega bianca Annie Palmer, che,
nell'abitazione, uccise i suoi quattro
mariti e numerosi schiavi negri in
un intrecciarsi di magia nera e riti
Woodoo.
Il 10 Aprile, di buon ora, dopo
una navigazione di circa 220
miglia, la nave Opera getta le
ancore nella rada di George Town
sull'isola di Gran Cayman.
Scendiamo a terra con le scialuppe
e l'agglomerato urbano si presenta
come una tipica città turisticocommerciale ricca di negozi, dutyfree e oltre 450 banche.
Nel 1585 Sir Francis Drake,
navigando in queste acque, segnalò
la presenza di numerose tartarughe
giganti che potevano costituire
riserva di carne per gli equipaggi in
transito, cosa che portò ad una
drastica riduzione di questa specie.
Successivamente venne progettato
un allevamento mediante il quale
si intendeva produrre carne di
tartaruga
senza
ridurre
la
popolazione selvatica.
Visitiamo Turtle Farm moderna
struttura per la tutela degli animali e
al tempo stesso attrazione turistica.
Rientriamo presto a bordo, partenza
alle ore 15, ci attendono 329 miglia
di navigazione con rotta nord-ovest
per raggiungere l'isola messicana di
Cozumel.
11 Aprile. Intorno le ore 9
iniziamo le manovre di ormeggio
alla banchina della
cittadina di San Miguel de
Cozumel dove ci attende il
traghetto per giungere sulla terra
ferma dello Yucatan.
Il nostro obiettivo è la visita delle
celebri rovine della città fortificata di
Tulum, l'unica città Maya affacciata
sul Mar dei Caraibi. Approdiamo a
Playa del Carmen cittadina turistica
sulla costa della penisola dello
Yucatan. Un bus dedicato ci
condurrà, con un percorso di 1 ora
attraverso la vegetazione rigogliosa
della foresta pluviale, al sito
Archeologico. dove tra le rovine
della città fortificata, possiamo
ammirare i templi su cui sono
ancora visibili misteriose iscrizioni
in caratteri geroglifici, affreschi e
dettagliate raffigurazioni incise sulla
pietra. Nella parte più alta domina
su tutto “El Castillo” con il suo
spettacolare panorama sulle acque
turchesi del mare sottostante.
Il tempo corre veloce e con
rammarico si deve tornare a bordo
per partire con rotta nord-est
attraverso il canale dello Yucatan, e
coprire le 324 miglia che ci
separano dal nostro rientro a l'
Avana.
E' l'ultima cena a bordo e i Fratelli
si ritrovano riuniti nella sala in
tenuta “de Combat”, emuli di
novelli Pirati alla conquista delle
Isole Caraibiche, si scambiano
saluti, abbracci e promesse per
futuri incontri in un clima
amichevole e Fraterno rinnovando,
ancora una
volta,
il
vero
significato del valore del la
Fratellanza della Costa
che si
esprime in quelle semplici ma
incisive regole che i Padri fondatori
vollero racchiudere nell'Ottalogo.

Hughes a participar del Zafarrancho
en homenaje a los hermanos que
navegan en el M. de la Eternidad.
Previo a este Zafarrancho se
organizó una reunión de trabajo del
equipo que está manejando el
programa del Zafarrancho Mundial
2018.
Se recibieron las visitas del Capitán
de la Nao Lussich Walter
EL CHACAL” Montes de Oca y su
Lugarteniente Humberto “BETO”
Antoniello y sus respectivas
cautivas.
40 calzos fueron cubiertos y se dió
inicio al zafarrancho con el Introito
por nuestro Capitán CARLITOS y
la lectura del Octalogo por el
Capitán EL CHACAL.
Nuestro Capitán Nacional Pedro
“LORO” Merlino hizo el trazado de
rumbo en homenaje a nuestros
Hermanos que navegan en el mar de
la eternidad, el mismo fue muy
emotivo para todos los presentes,
con un gran Orza de 3 andanadas
cantadas se terminó este trazado.
Terminada la maniobra de zarpe
toma la caña el Vigía Internacional
Gonzalo “MANGUEIRA” Trías y
da a conocer las noticias nacionales
e internacionales como por ejemplo
el Zafarrancho de apadrinamiento
de la Balsa de Panamá y la Botadura
de la Hermandad de Cuba donde
estará presente un piquete uruguayo,
el Zafarrancho Remberto Cabrera
en Copiapó en junio, el festejo de
los 50 años de Polonia en setiembre,
la Conferencia de nuestro Hermano

embarque de un nuevo bichicuma
para la Nao, Luis Mañan y se
ascendió a Muchacho al bichicuma
Héctor García.
Luego el Capitán CARLITOS lee la
postulación
del
Hermano
MANGUEIRA como candidato a
Capitán Nacional por nuestra Nao,
haciendo entrega al CN LORO para
que la dé a conocer al resto de las
Naos, quedando estipulado que la
asamblea de Capitanes de Naos
donde será electo el nuevo CN será
en la primera quincena de julio.
Para finalizar se da lectura por
nuestro CN LORO a la Oración al
Mar decretando chipe libre y hasta
la
próxima
recalada,
varios
hermanos con sus cautivas se
quedaron compartiendo hasta altas
horas de la madrugada.

As the National Captain, it falls to
me to enlighten you as to the
activities of the Brothers of Great
Britain.
We have enjoyed a productive and
enjoyable period since our last
report. Due to personal and family
issues, I have been unable to
participate as fully as I would have
wished in the activities of Freres de
la Cote, but I have been very ably
represented by members of the GB
National Council and other GB
Brothers
at
various
events
throughout Europe and beyond.
Following the resounding success of
the Greenwich 00.00 Zafarrancho in
November last year,
where
Brothers and their Shipmates
attended from eleven countries as
well as a good representation from
all five GB Tables. Many new
friends were made and a number of
reciprocal
visits
have
been
undertaken and thoroughly enjoyed
by all concerned, as a result.
Our National Vigie from the East
Anglia Table was invited to Texas
USA to join them and perform for
an anniversary celebration, he has
also travelled to Poland, Belgium
and other foreign shore to fly the
Great
Britain
flag.
The Solent table, especially or
National Bosco, have been very
active both entertaining Brothers
from other "bays" and visiting
Tables in Germany, Belgium,
France, Poland, and the Channel
Islands. They have participated in
"raft ups" BBQ's and more formal
gatherings, all of which have been
highly
successful.
Kent Invicta Table had the pleasure

of entertaining Brothers and
Shipmates from the Liege Table,
Belgium showing them the Historic
Dockyard,
at
Chatham
and
Canterbury Cathedral as well as the
Dickensian delights of Rochester
and
surrounding
areas.
Captain Ginger of KIT continues to
cruise the Egean and Black Seas
with reports being submitted
regularly for us at home. We of
course envy him immensely.
Walker de Plank (GF of KIT) is
currently circumnavigating the
British Isle on a 3-4 month cruise
before he sets off again for the near
continent.
To a more serious subject, I have
had major concerns at our inability
to
positively
"grow"
the
Brotherhood here in Great Britain.
As with many other Countries, our
hobby is becoming prohibitively
expensive for the younger mariner,
consequently reducing the size of
the pond from which we fish,
however those that are landed are of
the highest quality, with all the
correct attitudes required by the
fraternity. I have been honoured to
enrol some of them into the
Brotherhood.
I
hope
that
my
personal
circumstances will improve in the
near future, enabling me to more
fully participate in my role as
National
Captain.

POLAND
Polish Brotherhood is busy with
intense preparations for 50-th
Anniversary Zafarrancho which will
take place between 2nd and 5th of
September in Gdansk. All 4 mesas
have
focused
their
spring
zafarranchos on the anniversary.
The Mesa Gdansk met in Rewa at
the spot of planned event to discuss
last organizational matters. 19
people arrived to Rewa (Brothers,
Captives, Blinds) including the
Captain of Mesa Gdansk - Andrzej
Drapella. The idea of the gathering
was to show Rewa to all members
who will be taking part in
preparation
of
the
autumn
anniversary. The weather was just
perfect. Strong wind 5B, great
sailing conditions and full sun have
been with us the whole day. The
adventure was brilliant hence our
moods were great.

At the occasion of Days of the Sea a
Zafarrancho was organized by Mesa
Szczecin. During the event a
commemorative plaque dedicated to
Brother Captain Boleslaw Kowalski
#1
was
unveiled
and
commemorative
medals
with
Brother Boleslaw on obverse were
handed. After the zafarrancho
Brothers moved to gaff cutter “Ark”
owned by Brother Wojtek Dubois
where Orzas, fireworks, shanties
and other pleasures lasted for next 2
evenings.

Report on Buccaneer
activities from Brothers of
the Coast from Portugal
assault, with 7 ships and 30
brothers, captives and friends,
consisted of guided tours to the
palace and winery of the marquis,
and the Lighthouse Authority.
“Faisca”, on he’s 90’s, never misses
the activities of our brotherhood and
is a frequent sailor on his ship
“High Flight”. He is one of the
founding brothers of our table and
has been involved with the direction
of several nautical associations in
Portugal. With his always young
spirit he is a motivating example of
abnegation and friendship, and a
great sailor of the caravel where
many brothers use to sail.
It included a Wine and Tapas dinner
and a shared lunch with blind wine
contest on board of the ships.
The table has been meeting
informally on Wednesdays at lunch
time in two selected restaurants on
both banks of river Tagus.
Our
“Grumetes”
(Engagé,
Muchacho, Aspirant) are making
their way to eventually become
Brothers. They have been involved
on the activities and, although there
are many miles to sail, are
considered good grumetes so far.
The retrieve from the assault was in
a regatta where the rules were still
in discussion at the end of the race.
Apart from email communication,
we are almost all connected in a
WhatsApp group and it is working
very well for confirmation of
attendees to informal meetings and
discussions within the table.
Do not forget to inform us if you are
coming to Lisbon for The Tall Ships
Races 2016 from the 22nd to the 25th
of July. We are planning a dedicated
Buccaneer activity with the
Brothers on the fleet.
We have just received the waited
order of merchandizing are very
happy with the results as can be
seen on the photo.
On the weekend of APR30/
MAR01, we organized an assault to
Oeiras, a town on the north side of
the mouth of Tagus, hometown of
“Marquês do Pombal”, the great
mind of the reconstruction and
organization of Portugal after the
great earthquake of 1755. The

had a very
special buccan
at
the
restaurant of
the
recently
celebrated 160 years Lisbon Naval
Association. Our brother José
Azevedo e Silva, “Faisca”, was
honoured with our Golden Insignia.

Nos Frères « Champagne » et
« Mackintosh » de la table de Gand
ont entamé leur traversée vers
l'éternité.
Champagne, tu étais le troisième
d’entre nous, et nous t’aimions.
Grâce à toi et tes neuf autres frères
vous avez fondé en 1955, à Gand,
pour notre bonheur, la première
table des frères de la Côte de
Belgique, qui fut aussi la première
table européenne!
Monsieur
Champagne,
quelle
réussite, tu portes le N° 3 et nous
délivrerons bientôt le 650ème Jolly
Roger. Tu as fait partie de tous nos
branle-bas, fidèle parmi les fidèles
tu les aimais et les enrichissais par
tes histoires, tes souvenirs et tes
conseils techniques, toi qui dessinas
plusieurs bateaux. La fraternité des
gens de la mer était un de tes grands
principes
de
vie.
Mackintosh, Homme de mer, te
voilà parti pour ta dernière
traversée. Engagé comme volontaire
dans la Royal Navy tu participas à
de nombreuses missions en mer.
Amoureux de la mer, tu acquis fin
des années 60 ton voilier que tu
nommas Mackintosh avec lequel tu
fis de nombreuses croisières avec ta
famille de l'autre côté du "Channel"
en
utilisant
les
instruments
rudimentaires de l'époque tels que,
la gonio, le compas de relèvement et
la règle Cras. Tu iras même jusque
dans les eaux danoises et suédoises
en mer Baltique. Sourire aux lèvres
tu devins Frère de la Côte en 1978.

prêt, un gentleman attentionné en
toutes circonstances et n'oublieront

Ce fut l'époque des grandes
navigations avec Baltic, Virgule
et bien d'autres. Tu t'embarquas
sans hésiter à 81 ans pour une
croisière de 1500 miles en 25 jours
pour faire le tour de la Grande
Bretagne via le canal Calédonien en
Ecosse, la traversée du
Loch Ness et le retour par la mer
d'Irlande, l'archipel des iles Scilly et
le sud de l'Angleterre. Une étoile
verte bien méritée te fut décernée
par la table de Gand. Les Frères se
