November 22, 2015 Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Prayer for Victims of Terrorism Loving God, Welcome into your arms the victims of violence and terrorism. Comfort their families and all who grieve for them. Help us in our fear and uncertainty, And bless us with the knowledge that we are secure in your love. If you want to know one of the places where we get the traditional image of God the Father—aged and with flowing white hair, such as we see in Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescos—look no further than the “Ancient One” holding heavenly court in the reading from the Book of Revelation. While ultimately God is beyond all names and depictions, Christian tradition favors the image of a father for the first person of the Trinity. There are, though, many images for God, even in scripture. What are names and titles you like to use for God? Why do you choose them? WHERE WE LIVE, SERVE, & WALK TOGETHER IN FAITH. ST. JOSEPH’S PAGE TWO FROM THE PASTOR My Dear Parish Family, Today we find ourselves at the end of another liturgical year. Ordinary Time culminates in this Solemnity Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe or, as we more commonly refer to it, The Feast of Christ the King. No matter how we call it, today is the day that the Church universal honors Jesus as our Lord, our King, Savior and yes, Judge of all. I share with you some thoughts and facts about what the Bible tells us of Judgment Day. The Hebrew prophets warned of the “day of the Lord, the great and terrible day” (Joel 3:4). Jesus didn’t deny the reality of a final reckoning. Saint Paul certainly anticipated that Jesus would come again and put an end to the world’s nonsense and infamy, and the last book in the Christian Bible, Revelation or the Apocalypse, is a long meditation on how good and evil will be ultimately discerned and treated accordingly. The first thing for us to remember though is that, no one can anticipate future events, Jesus said, because even he was not given the knowledge of the day or the hour of judgment (see Matthew 24:36). Second: The primary purpose of the Day of the Lord seems to be judgment, not destruction: God will one day hold humanity accountable for its actions. Destruction is only part of divine judgment to the extent that our actions warrant it or draw it down. Finally: Those who are doing what they should be doing now, have nothing to fear later. Matthew provides a checklist for that day: feed the hungry, give the thirsty water, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick, visit the imprisoned (see Matthew 25:31-46)—actions counted among those otherwise known as the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. This Thursday, as we gather to give thanks at our special Thanksgiving Day 9am Mass, let us look at what we do each and every day to follow the dictates of the Gospel to show God’s mercy to our fellow brothers and sisters. God bless you all. Fr. Scott . . MASS INTENTIONS . . . Monday, November 23 . . 7:00 Fideligno & Isabel Gomez req. by Family . . . 9:00 John Shaffer req. by Sr. Jean Spena . . . JOSEPH’S Vocation Discernment Group Meeting A Vocation Discernment Group Meeting is a wonderful opportunity to share how God is calling us to serve in His Church. In these sessions we talk about the issues that affect our vocation: How does God call us? How can I know where God wants me to serve Him? What is the life of priestly ministry? What are the qualities that make a holy priest? What is the formation process like? Through prayer, experience, and a strong dedication to one’s spiritual life, discernment emerges as a gift from God, leading us in the right direction. You are invited to share your journey with us in these discernment group meetings. Our next meeting will be held on November 29, 2015, at the Parish of Corpus Christi, 11 South Street Road, Willingboro, NJ 08046 from 4-6pm. Hosted by Rev. Joseph Jakub, the time will include prayer, sharing discernment stories, Q & A, and a light meal. . . HORARIO DE MISAS En la Semana: 7:00am & 9:00am.
