TRUE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
Can you imagine a world such as the one put before us
in today’s scripture readings? Communities of believers
everywhere would support and encourage one another
and be identified as Christians by the way they love
each other. It would be a
world with no tears, no
death and mourning, no
crying out in pain.
“Behold, I make all things
new,” we hear the Son of
God say in the second
reading from the book of
Revelation (21:5).
Is this world of John’s vision only imaginary? Are
these faithful followers for whom Jesus prayed only a
savior’s dream? Today they are put before us as a worthy goal. How much closer can we come to this vision
of a true Christian community in our lives today?

¿Te puedes imaginar un mundo tal como nos lo presenta
las lecturas bíblicas de hoy? Comunidades de fieles por todas partes que se apoyan y se
animan unas a otras y se identifican como cristianos por el
amor que se tienen unos a
otros. Sería un mundo sin
lágrimas, sin muerte ni luto,
sin gritos de dolor. “Ahora todo
lo hago nuevo”, oímos decir al
Hijo de Dios en la segunda lectura del libro del Apocalipsis
(21:5).
Este mundo de la visión de Juan, ¿es sólo un mundo imaginario? Y esos fieles seguidores de Jesús por los cuales él
reza, ¿son un mero sueño del salvador? Hoy se presentan
ante nosotros como una meta valiosa. ¿Cómo podemos
acercarnos cada vez más a esta visión de una verdadera
comunidad cristiana en nuestra vida de hoy?

Novena del Día de las Madres
In celebration of Mother’s Day, we will have a Novena of
Masses. The series of 9 Masses will begin with the Anticipated Mass of Sunday at 5:00 PM on Saturday, 7
May and include every Mass on Sunday, 8 May
(Mothers’ Day) through the Daily Mass of Thursday, 12
May. We will begin accepting donations for this Novena
THIS weekend. Special envelopes were included in the mailed
packets and are available on the table in the vestibule.

Annual Clergy Convocation
This Week
Each year, during Easter Time, Bishop Kicanas
convokes all the priests serving in the diocese
for three days of in-service meetings. This is
an opportunity for the priests to be together in
prayer and fraternity while also attending
some continuing education sessions. Frs. Ron
and Edgar will be attending this year’s convocation which will be held from 26–28 April. This
means that there will not be a priest available during those days. Fr. Vernon Malley, O.Carm. will celebrate the 8 AM Mass on Wednesday and Thursday.

LAST compliance training session for this year:

Boy Scout Spaghetti Dinner
St. Cyril Boy Scout Troop 115 would like to ask
for your support by attending our Spaghetti
Dinner on Saturday, 30 April, from 5:00 to
7:30 PM in Nicholson Hall. Dinner includes
homemade sauce (simmered for 8 hours), fresh
salad, toasted garlic bread, drinks, and our World Famous
Dessert Auction. Dinner is $6 per
person or $20 per family or 4.
Proceeds are used to defray costs
for scouting events throughout the
year.

trained lay ministers to serve their parishes. These dioceses are known as
home missions. Our diocese is one of
these.
The Catholic Home Missions Appeal which will take place NEXT week
supports these dioceses by funding
essential ministries, including seminary
education and lay ministry training.
Please be generous in this appeal and
share your resources to strengthen
the Church at home.

Catholic Foundation’s Annual Cornerstone Gala
Honors Bishop Kicanas on Friday, 6 May
Each year, the Catholic Foundation hosts a Gala
event as a major fundraiser at which they honor
individuals and/or groups of people in service of
the Catholic community of Tucson. This year the
gala honors Bishop Kicanas who is required to
submit his resignation as bishop of the diocese on
his 75th birthday this August.
