Our Names Written In Heaven
By Cynthia Reyes
My mother would say in Spanish, “One never knows whom we work for.” Sometimes the head of
greed shows its ugly face upon someone’s death, demanding their share of the inheritance, even before the
person is lying in their grave. Or how about those who struggle with saying no to their addicted child as
they pullout a $20 dollar bill, and handing it over, blinded by love.
Clearly, Jesus states with unadulterated absolute manner in today’s gospel of Luke, that we work and
labor for him! There is no doubt or hesitancy that we are the laborer-disciples, working for the Kingdom by
our presence, our proclamation, and our perseverance in pursuit of Jesus’ mission which brings about the
kingdom of God. He even says that if people do not accept us, that we should shake off the dust from our
feet, and continue elsewhere.
We may need to shake off our temptation to quit when we become discouraged; to throw in the towel
as the journey comes into conflict with those who reject the gift of God’s saving grace. Discouragement is
not a quality that is valued by Jesus in pursing the kingdom. After all, how can we walk with God and be
discouraged! We must not be defeated nor lose sight of the vision, for our names will be written in heaven,
as those who have labored long and hard, bringing about the kingdom here on earth, as I think of Mother Teresa, the holy men and women who have lead us to our faith, Monsignor Condon, and my mother. Let us
rejoice as we become the signed and symbol of a lived faith, as we continue to labor for Him.
Nuestros Nombres Escritos En El Cielo

If your child is participating in summer activities outside of the Archdiocese,
