The Serger can be used alone or as a supplement to your conventional
sewing machine as a Fast, Efficient, Functional way to sew these
garments.
6. Pin WRONG side of bodice front to RIGHT side of underlay
at side and lower edges, matching large dots, centers front
and having raw edges even. Baste.
Stitch/Serge bodice front to bodice back at side seams.
CHECK FIT: Because, Overlock sewing stitches, trims and finishes all in
one operation, it is VERY important to Check Fit before stitching seams.
Use polyester/cotton thread and ball point needles.

otherwise indicated. If you use a zig-zag
machine ... use a narrow stitch, medium length;
trim seam to 1/4" (6mm) and overcast edges
together by machine. If you use a straight stitch
... stretch fabric as you sew (unless working on
a firm double knit) and sew seams 2 or 3 times
close together.
Using matching color thread, baste seams and try garment on. If no
adjustments are needed, overlock seams along basting.

Seams: The three thread overlock is ideal for major seams such
as...shoulder, side, underarm and sleeve seams.

BODICE
For stress areas such as crotch seams and armholes, the four thread
overlock/safety stitch is best...OR, use a three thread overlock, and
stitch along seam with a conventional machine to reinforce.
8. With RIGHT sides together, pin skirt to bodice at waistline
seam, matching centers and side seams. Stitch. Trim the skirt
seam allowance only to within 1/4" (6mm) of stitching.
Edge Finishes: The two or three thread overlock stitch is a perfect finish
for edges of facings and hems...and a fast, easy Clean Finish for seam
allowances in unlined garments where seams are pressed open.
NOTE: A roller presser foot, used on double knits, will not stretch the top layer of
fabric and thus keeps seams even. On single knits, it will not hold tricots and
sometimes causes skipped stitches. For sweater knits, it is a must since yarn loops
catch on a regular foot.
SKIRT
Rolled Hem: A great, Narrow Hem alternative for finishing circular skirts,
ruffles, shawls and lingerie. See your sewing machine manual for
instructions.

9. To form waistline casing, press bodice seam down, pressing
under 1/4” (6m) on raw edge. Stitch close to pressed edge
through all thicknesses, leaving an opening to insert elastic.

stitch along seam line and 1/4” (6mm) INSIDE seam line,
using a long machine stitch.
2. With RIGHT sides together, pin bodice front to bodice back at
forward shoulder seams. Pull up gathering stitches to fit.

For straps, cut two pieces of ribbon using guide for strap.
Transfer markings. On INSIDE, pin one end of strap to
shoulder seam, matching small dots. Stitch end in place

10. Cut a piece of elastic the length of waist elastic guide.
Insert elastic through opening in casing. Adjust to fit. Stitch
end of elastic together securely. Stitch opening closed.
Distribute fullness evenly.
TIP- To secure elastic so it won't twist in wearing, stitch
through all thicknesses of casing in the groove of each seam.

first stitching. Trim seam below notches close to stitching.

bands, matching large dots. Stitch each side of center front
seam to large dot. Trim seam.

To make lower casing. press under 5/8” (1.5cm) on lower
edge of sleeve. Turn under 1/4” (6mm) on raw edge and stitch
in place, leaving an opening to insert elastic.

together, matching small dots; press.

14. To keep elastics from getting stuck in the seam allowances as
it’s inserted, use fusible web or machine-basting to anchor
them to garment above lower casing. Be sure to remove
basting after casing is finished.
To make remaining casings, on INSIDE, pin lower edge of
bias fold tape to sleeve along upper and lower casing lines.
Turn under ends of tape so that they meet at seam. Stitch
close to long edges of tape.
6. On OUTSIDE, pin facing to neck edge of garment, matching
centers back, placing small dots at forward shoulder seams
and remaining dots on band seams. (Ends of facing will
extend.) Stitch/Serge entire neck edge in 3/8” (1cm) seam.
For conventional machine - Trim seam; clip curves.

15. Cut six pieces off elastic, each the length of sleeve elastic
guide. Each sleeve get three pieces. Insert elastics through
openings in casings. Stitch ends of elastic together securely.
Distribute fullness evenly. Remove all basting.
7. Turn front bands and neck facing to INSIDE; press.
On INSIDE, baste close to inner edge of neck facing. Pin
pressed edge of band facing over seam, placing pins on
OUTSIDE

16. Turn sleeve RIGHT side out. Hold garment WRONG side out
with armhole toward you. With RIGHT sides together, pin
sleeve to armhole edge, matching underarm seams and
small dots. Pull up gathering stitches to fit. To distribute
fullness evenly, slide fabric along bobbin threads. Baste.
Stitch/Serge.
For a conventional machine, stitch again 1/8" (3mm) from
first stitching. Trim seam below notches close to stitching.
Press seam toward sleeve.
8. On OUTSIDE, top-stitch band close to seam, catching in
pressed edge of facing, and removing pins as you come to
them. Baste raw edges at lower edge together. Stitch neck
facing in place along basting between band stitching.
Prepare skirt and stitch to bodice, see DRESS A, B, steps 7,
8, 9 and 10.

17. Press up hem on lower edge of garment. Stitch OR zig-zag
1/4" (6mm) from raw edge.

lower edges even. Make buttonhole at marking through all
thicknesses. When garment is finished, sew button to small
dot.

1. To gather shoulder edge of bodice front between notches,
stitch along seam line and 1/4” (6mm) INSIDE seam line,
using a long machine stitch.

11. To ease top of sleeve between notches, stitch along seam
line and 1/4" (6mm) INSIDE seam line, using a long machinestitch. Stitch/Serge underarm seam.

NOTE: you have cut four band sections. Two will be referred to as
facings.

Cut diagonally across corners that will be enclosed with
seams. Fuse interfacing in place, following manufacturer’s
directions.
With RIGHT sides together, stitch center front seam from
lower edge to large dot. Back-stitch at dot to reinforce seam.
Stitch/Serge front bands to bodice fronts.
For conventional machine - Trim seams. Press seams
toward bands.

together, pin ruffle to facing along lower edges, matching
seams. Pull up gathering stitches to fit. Baste. Stitch/Serge.

planche un doblez de 5/8” (1.5cm) al borde inferior de la manga. Planche un doblez de 1/4”
(6mm) al borde no acabado y cósalo en su sitio, dejando una abertura para ensartar el
elástico.
14. Para evitar que el elástico quede atrapado en los márgenes de costura, fíjelos a la prenda
arriba de la jareta superior con un pedazo de material adhesivo o un hilván a máquina.
Recuerde quitar el hilván cuando la jareta esté terminada.
Para las otras jaretas, por el REVES, prenda con alfileres el borde inferior del bies sobre las
líneas superior e inferior del bies de la jareta de las mangas. Doblez hacia dentro los
extremos del bies de manera que se junten en la costura. Cosa cerca de los bordes largos
del bies.
15. Corte seis trozos de elástico del largo de la guía para el elástico de las mangas. Use tres
elásticos para cada manga. Ensarte los trozos del elástico en las jaretas. Cosa sólidamente
los extremos del elástico juntos. Distribuya uniformemente la amplitud. Quite todos los
hilvanes.
16. Vuelva la manga al DERECHO. Sostenga la prenda al REVES con la sisa hacia usted.
DERECHO CON DERECHO, prenda con alfileres la manga al borde de la sisa, casando las
costuras de debajo de los brazos y los puntos pequeños. Hale las puntadas para embeber
hasta la medida necesaria. Para distribuir la amplitud uniformemente, pase la tela por los
hilos de la canilla. Hilvane. Cosa/Sobrehile. Para una máquina corriente, cosa de nuevo a
1/8" (3mm) de la primera costura. Recorte el margen abajo de las muescas a ras de la
costura. Planche la costura hacia de manga.
DOBLADILLO A,B
17. Planche hacia arriba el dobladillo del borde inferior de la prenda. Cosa con puntadas
rectas O cosa con puntadas de zigzag a 1/4" (6mm) del borde no acabado.
VESTIDO C Ó D
1.
Para fruncir el borde de los hombros del frente del corpiño entre las muescas, cosa con
puntadas largas de máquina sobre la línea de costura y 1/4” (6mm) al INTERIOR de la línea
de costura.
NOTA: Usted ha cortado cuatro bandas. Dos servirán como vistas.

Prenda con alfileres la entretela sobre el REVES de las secciones de la banda delantera.
Sesgue las esquinas que quedarán atrapadas dentro de las costuras. Pegue con la plancha
la entretela siguiendo las instrucciones del fabricante. DERECHO CON DERECHO, cosa la
costura del centro delantero desde el borde inferior hasta el punto grande. Retroceda para
reforzar la costura. Cosa/Sobrehile las bandas delanteras sobre las piezas del frente del
corpiño. Para una máquina corriente- Recorte las costuras. Plánchelas hacia de las
bandas.

DERECHO CON DERECHO, prenda con alfileres juntos el frente y la espalda del corpiño
por las costuras delanteras de los hombros. Tire de los hilos de frunces para ajustar.
Hilvane. Cosa/Sobrehile. Planche la costura hacia la espalda del corpiño.

Por el DERECHO, cosa con puntadas de adorno cerca de las costuras traseras de los
hombros. DERECHO CON DERECHO, cosa el centro delantero de la vista de la banda
delantera desde el borde inferior hasta el punto grande. Retroceda en el punto para reforzar
la costura. Planche un doblez de 1/2” (1.3cm) en los bordes exteriores de la banda; recorte
a 1/4” (6mm). DERECHO CON DERECHO, prenda con alfileres la vista de la banda
delantera sobre las bandas delanteras, sobreponiendo los puntos grandes. Cosa cada lado
de la costura del centro del frente hasta el punto grande. Recorte la costura.

doblado de la vista de la banda sobre la costura colocando los alfileres AFUERA.

borde doblado de la vista dentro de la costura y quitando los alfileres a medida que se
acerca. Hilvane juntos los bordes no acabados inferiores. Cosa la vista del escote en su sitio
a lo largo del hilván entre los costuras de la banda. Prepare la falda y cósala sobre el
corpiño, vea los VESTIDOS A, B, pasos 7, 8, 9 y 10.

arriba. Para hacer la ACABADO DEL BORDE...cosa un doblez de 1/4" (6mm), puntadas de
zigzag, U overlock/sobrehiladora. Cosa el dobladillo en su sitio con puntadas falsas o con
puntadas de máquina.
10. Al EXTERIOR, doble el borde inferior de las mangas por la línea para el doblez
emparejando los bordes inferiores. Haga el ojal para el botón sobre la marca
atravesando todos los espesores. Cosa el botón sobre el punto pequeño cuando la
prenda esté terminada.

11. Para fruncir la parte superior de la manga entre las muescas, cosa a lo largo de la línea de

16. Vuelva la manga al DERECHO. Sostenga la prenda al REVES con la sisa hacia
usted. DERECHO CON DERECHO, prenda con alfileres la manga al borde de la
sisa, y casando las costuras de debajo de los brazos y los puntos pequeños. Hale las
puntadas para embeber hasta la medida necesaria. Para distribuir la amplitud
uniformemente, pase la tela por los hilos de la canilla hasta que no haya arrugas o
pliegues en la línea de costura. Hilvane. Cosa/Sobrehile. Para una máquina
corriente - Cosa de nuevo a 1/8" (3mm) de la primera costura. Recorte el margen
abajo de las muescas a ras de la costura. Planche solamente el margen de costura,
encogiendo así la amplitud.
17. Planche hacia dentro el dobladillo del borde inferior de la prenda. Para hacer la
ACABADO DEL BORDE...cosa un doblez de 1/4" (6mm), puntadas de zigzag, U overlock/
sobrehiladora. Cosa el dobladillo en su sitio con puntadas falsas.
FAJA C
18. Cosa los extremos con muescas de la faja con costura de 3/8" (1cm). DERECHO
CON DERECHO, doble la faja por la mitad a lo largo. Cosa con costura de 3/8" (1cm)
dejando una abertura para voltear. Recorte la costura y sesgue las esquinas.
19. Voltee la faja; plánchela. Cierre la abertura con puntadas falsas.
20. Por FUERA, prenda con alfileres la faja por la costura de la jareta de la falda trasera,
colocando la costura sobre el centro trasero y el pliegue justo arriba de la costura de
la jareta. Cosa sobre el doblez por aproximadamente 1/2” (1.3cm) en cada lado del
centro trasero sin atrapar el elástico en la costura.
21. Cosa una presilla de 1-1/2” (3.8cm) de largo sobre el centro del frente justo arriba de
la jareta.
Pase los extremos de la faja en la presilla y amarre como se muestra en el frente del
sobre cuando se pone la prenda.
