Third Sunday Of Advent– Mt 11:2-11
When John the Baptist heard in prison
of the works of the Christ, he sent his
disciples to Jesus with this question,
“Are you the one who is to come, or
should we look for another?” Jesus
said to them in reply, “Go and tell John
what you hear and see: the blind
regain their sight, the lame walk,
lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the
dead are raised, and the poor have
the good news proclaimed to them.
And blessed is the one who takes no
offense at me.”
As they were going off, Jesus began to speak to the crowds
about John, “What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed
swayed by the wind?
Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine
clothing? Those who wear fine clothing are in royal palaces.
Then why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you,
and more than a prophet.
This is the one about whom it is written:
Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you;
he will prepare your way before you.
Amen, I say to you,
among those born of women there has been none greater than
John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is
greater than he.”

This section deals with the
growing opposition to Jesus. It is
largely devoted to disputes and
attacks relating to faith and
discipleship and thus contains
many sayings. Herod had John
put in prison for questioning
the propriety of his marriage to
Herodias (14:1-12). John, like
many others at the time, expected
the Messiah to bring harsh and fiery
judgment upon the people, and in today’s reading, he express
doubts about Jesus’ identity. Jesus responded with passages
from the prophet Isaiah (26:19; 29:18-19; 35:5-6; 61:1) that
described the coming of the
Messiah as a time marked by deeds such as those that Jesus
was doing.
The phrase, “Blessed is the one who takes no offense at me,” was
a warning to John and all his listeners not to doubt him
because their expectations had not been met. His rebuke
was counterbalanced by a declaration of the greatness of
John. Yet, for all his greatness, John did not inaugurate the
new age of the coming of the Kingdom of God.

Angel Tree
The Religious Education Program invites you to be a part of
the Angel Tree project.
The Angel Tree is designed to assist families in financial need to ensure that their
children have a joyful Christmas. Each year, with your generosity, we help provide
over 100 children with Christmas presents. The Angel Tree will be in front of the
crying room inside of the church. If you would like to help simply take a candy
cane and bring a gift card to us by
December 14th.
The distribution date will be Monday December 16th and
Tuesday December 17th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from
3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Árbol De Angelitos
La oficina de Educación Religiosa les invita a participar en el proyecto
“Árbol de Angelitos” .
Este proyecto esta designado a ayudar a las familias con necesidades
económicas para que sus hijos puedan tener un regalo para Navidad. Cada año,
con su ayuda, proveemos regalos a más de 100 niños. El árbol estará frente del
crying room adentro de la
Iglesia. Si desea participar tome un bastoncito de menta del árbol y lleve una
tarjeta de regalo de Walmart o alguna tienda antes del 14 de Diciembre a la oficina.
La distribución se llevará a cabo el Lunes 16 de Diciembre y el Martes 17, de 12:00 p.m. a 2:00
p.m. y de 3:00 p.m. a 6:00 p.m.

tonces, ¿a qué salisteis?, ¿a ver a un profeta?
Sí, os digo, y más que profeta; él es de quien está escrito:
"Yo envío mi mensajero delante de ti, para que prepare el
camino ante ti." Os aseguro que no ha nacido de mujer uno
más grande que Juan, el Bautista; aunque el más pequeño
en el reino de los cielos es más grande que él.»
La lectura de hoy nos presenta tres ideas importantes:
En aquel tiempo, Juan, que había oído en la cárcel las obras ♦
del Mesías, le mandó a preguntar por medio de sus discípulos: -«¿Eres tú el que ha de venir o tenemos que esperar a
otro?»
♦
Jesús les respondió: -«Id a anunciar a Juan lo que estáis
viendo y oyendo: los ciegos ven, y los inválidos andan; los

Al irse ellos, Jesús se puso a hablar a la gente sobre Juan:
-«¿Qué salisteis a contemplar en el desierto, una caña sacudida por el viento? ¿0 qué fuisteis a ver, un hombre vestido
con lujo? Los que visten con lujo habitan en los palacios. En-

Jesús invita a sus oyentes a que observen los signos que ha
cumplido a favor de los enfermos y los pobres, tal como había
sido prometido en las profecías mesiánicas.
Las obras del Mesías llegan a su clímax cuando la buena noticia se
anuncia a los pobres y desdichados.
Reflexión Dominical
Herodes había encarcelado a Juan porque éste había cuestionado públicamente la
moralidad de su matrimonio con Herodías (14:1-12). En esos tiempos corruptos,
Juan, al igual que muchos judíos de la época, esperaba que el Mesías traería un juicio
severo y violento sobre los pecadores; esto hace que dude de la identidad de Jesús.
La lectura de hoy refleja esta duda cuando Juan, desde la cárcel, envía a sus
discípulos a cuestionar su identidad mesiánica. Esta visita de los discípulos será la
ocasión para precisar lo que Jesús nos trae, y lo que no hay que esperar de él.
Jesús responde usando los pasajes del profetas Isaías que describían la venida del
Mesías (Isaías 26:19; 29:28-19; 35:5-6; 61:1). La frase: “Feliz aquel que al
encontrarme no se aleja desilusionado”, es una advertencia a Juan y a sus
discípulos de no dudar de él porque sus expectativas del Mesías no se habían
realizado. Una vez que los discípulos de Juan se han marchado, Jesús hace un
sincero elogio de la grandeza de Juan y lo reconoce como el más importante de los
profetas mesiánicos. Sin embargo, lo coloca claramente en el tiempo de las promesas.
Juan no inaugura el Reino de Dios, esto lo hace solamente Jesús.
