PRINCIPAL CORNER
This time of year brings about constant reminders of feeling
gratitude. We are all so thankful to be a part of such a caring and
generous community that truly embodies our GBMS Character
Traits of: Perseverance, Integrity, Curiosity, Kindness and
Leadership. This generosity has been apparent through many
student led fundraisers that help our school and community. It is
amazing to think that our parents, staff and students have raised
close to $1300 to support struggling families in our community
with food over the holidays. The empathy and kindness amongst
our students and community is powerful and we are grateful for all
that you do.
Please join us for our Parent Lunch Bunch with the Principal on
January 13th and to highlight our talented students at our Winter
Showcase and Open House on December 16th.

PTO UPDATE BY MS. DRAKE
PTO is focusing on community involvement, staff appreciation, and improved communication. We have events
coming up that we would love to have volunteer support, such as our Teacher Appreciation Coffee Cart on December
14th, our parent/teacher potluck on December 15th, and a movie night in January. All parents and teachers are
welcome to the PTO potluck December 15th at 4:30 (come when you can) in the Teacher’s Lounge. This will be a goo
d time to meet-and-greet and eat some delicious treats. Bring a dish of food if you would like! Meeting days will be
moved to Thursdays starting in January.

ADULT ENGLISH
CLASSES
The Holiday Showcase will be Adult English classes are now in
December 16, 2015 5:00 - 7:00 pm.

There will be performances from Parents with different levels of

CHARACTER TRAIT
CELEBRATIONS AND
WINTER SOCIAL

Our students work very hard and we
like to reward them every quarter
with a social. The students will have
a fun afternoon of karaoke, dancing,
roller skating, jumping castles and
just hanging out and pigging out on
snacks. Our socials allow student
to make connection with fellow
classmates and build long lasting
friendship. We hope our student
look back and remember GBMS
social as a highlight of their middle
school days.

Q2 ENRICHMENTS

Quarter 2 of Enrichment Classes for
the 2015-16 school year has been a
very active and hands on time for
all of our students. This quarter we
added new classes in Lego Design,
Art Journaling, Improv, Singing,
Rugby and Lacrosse to our list of
over 60 creative and challenging
ELO classes.. Other ELO Highlights
- Miss Frank’s First Lego Challenge
class competed in the 2015 FIRST®
LEGO® League TRASH TREK
Challenge. The FIRST LEGO
League (FLL®) challenged our kids
to think like scientists and engineers
while working as a team to solve a
real-world trash problem and build,
test, and program an autonomous
robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®
technology to solve a set of missions
in the Robot Game. Liz Kailey’s
Aerospace class not only built and
tested their own crafted airplanes
and rockets they will be given a
personal tour of several aircrafts at
the Centennial Airport later this
month. Please plan to attend the
December 16th Showcase to see
demonstrations and performances
from most of our ELO classes this

WITH MR. PAAVOLA
BASKETBALL
Basketball games started on
December 7t h. O ur studentathletes and coaches, Dan Walsh
(Boys) and Matt Paavola (Girls) are
looking forward to getting under
way.
The Lady Griffins had a terrific
season finishing 5-3 and making
the playoffs for the second straight
year. The girls made it to the second
round of the playoffs defeating
Skinner in their first match before
falling to Hill. We would like to
recognize the 8th graders for their
years of dedication: Brianna Chou,
Amy Deluna, Natalie Morales, Karla
Robles, America Rodriguez, Britney
Trevizio and Gloria Varela. Also, a
big thanks to Coach Callie McHugh,
7th Grade Social Studies Teacher,
for her dedication. Great job ladies.
FLAG FOOTBALL
The Flag Football team finished with
a record of 2-4. It was a tough season,
but the boys continued to work
extremely hard despite the adversity.

to leadership throughout the

6TH GRADE
8TH GRADE
We are coming up on the end of the
first half of our sixth graders first
year in middle school and we are
very excited. To celebrate, our
students will be going on a field
trip to the Museum of Nature and
Science on December 16th. While
there we will see all the regular
exhibits as well as the Sherlock
Holmes exhibit and an IMAX
movie.
The 8th Grade Team is proud of the
students effort since returning from
break. There are many activities that
start for 8th graders in the second
part of the year. Students and
parents must remember in order
to participate in these activities –
including Continuation – you must
be making all of our requirements.
8th graders that are on the path
towards Continuation should
also start to be thinking about
the high school of their choice.
Tours can be set up along with
shadow visits. Please review your
student’s progress towards meeting
continuation requirements. If they
are facing challenges in any class be
sure to set goals, meet with teachers
and do whatever possible to ensure
your student’s success

los juegos de baloncesto comienzan el
7 de diciembre. Nuestros estudiantesatletas y entrenadores, Dan Walsh

VOLEIBOL
La niñas Griffin tuvieron una temporada
excelente acabando 5-3 y llegaron a los
playoffs por segundo año consecutivo.
Las chicas llegaron a la segunda
ronda de los playoffs derrotando
Skinner en su primer partido antes
de caer. Nos gustaría reconocer a los
estudiantes de 8vo grado por sus años

BANDERA DE FUTBOL
El equipo de Flag Football terminó con
un récord de 2-4. Fue una temporada
difícil, pero los muchachos continuaron
trabajando muy duro a pesar de la
adversidad. Un agradecimiento va para
nuestros jugadores del Grado 8º por su
compromiso con el liderazgo durante

Estamos llegando hasta el final de la
primera mitad de los alumnos de sexto
grado primer año en la escuela media
y estamos muy emocionados. Para
celebrarlo, nuestros estudiantes van a ir
a una excursión al Museo de Naturaleza
y Ciencia el 16 de diciembre. Si bien
no vamos a ver todas las exposiciones
regulares, así como la exposición de
Sherlock Holmes y una película IMAX.
El equipo de octavo grado se
enorgullece del esfuerzo del estudiante
desde su regreso de las vacaciones.
Hay muchas actividades que se inician
para estudiantes de 8vo grado en la
segunda parte del año. Los estudiantes
y los padres deben recordar con el fin
de participar en estas actividades incluyendo Continuación-- debe estar
haciendo todos nuestros requisitos.
8º grado que están en el camino hacia
la continuación también deberían
empezar a pensar en la escuela de su
elección. Tours se puede configurar
junto con visitas guiadas. Por favor
revise el progreso del estudiante hacia
el cumplimiento de los requisitos de
continuación. Si se enfrentan a retos en
cualquier clase asegúrese de establecer
metas, reunirse con los maestros y
hacer lo posible para asegurar el éxito
de su estudiante.

de noviembre! Cada grupo participó en
un desafío! Nuestra próxima excursión

El Holiday Showcase será 16 de

Las clases de Inglés para Adultos ya han
comenzado en el salón de Ms. Nadia.
Padres y familia con diferentes niveles
de inglés se juntan para aprender a
través de usar nuevas palabras para crear
cuentos interesantes. Tenemos clase los
martes y los miércoles de las 5:00pm 6:30pm en Salón 211. Cuidado de niños
es proveído durante cada clase por Ms.
Amy, Ms. Laree, o Ms. Britta. Todos los
padres y familias son bienvenidos en

Habrá actuaciones de varios de los
Enriquecimientos y clases electivas,
por ejemplo Equipo de Baile, Porristas,
banda 7mo-8vo grado, PE estará
haciendo una danza/actividad, CSC
tambores, Canto, Hip Hop, Tai Chi y
Improv.
También habrá exhibiciones de algunas
de nuestras clases de ELO que no
son de desempeño, esperamos que
todo el mundo pase por las mesas y
experimente un poco de la experiencia
de sus hijos durante su tiempo ELO. La
cena será proporcionada a las familias
que asistan.
También
tendremos
estudiantes
disponibles para las visitas guiadas
en el edificio para los estudiantes de
5º grado, considerando que asisten a
GBMS los próximos años de escuela.

Nuestros estudiantes trabajan muy
duro y nos gusta premiar a ellos cada
trimestre con un social. Es muy bueno
que los estudiantes tendrán una divertida
tarde de karaoke, baile, patinaje sobre
ruedas, saltando castillos y pasar el
rato y coman golosinas y vocadillos que
venderemos. Nuestro estudiantes se
permitirá hacer conexiones con otros
compañeros de clase y construir larga
amistad duradera. Esperamos que el
estudiante mire hacia atrás y recuerde
el social como un punto culminante de
sus días de escuela secundaria.

Clases
de
enriquecimiento para el año escolar
2015-16 ha sido muy activo y trabajando
con las manos en el tiempo para todos
nuestros estudiantes. Este trimestre
hemos añadido nuevas clases de Diseño
Lego, Arte en periodismo, Improv,
Cantar, rugby y lacrosse a nuestra lista
de más de 60 clases de ELO creativas y
desafiantes.
Otros destacados de ELO – La clase
de la señorita Frank tuvo su primer
competencia Lego LEGO® League
BASURA TREK Challenge. El LEGO
League (FLL®) desafió a nuestros hijos
a pensar como científicos e ingenieros
mientras se trabaja en equipo para
resolver un problema de la basura en
el mundo real y construir, probar, y
el programa de un robot autónomo
que utilizan la tecnología de LEGO
MINDSTORMS para resolver un
conjunto de misiones en el juego del
robot. Clase Aeroespacial de Liz Kailey
no sólo construyó y probó sus propios
aviones y cohetes artesanales se les dará
un tour personal de varios aviones en
el Aeropuerto del Centenario a finales
de este mes. Por favor haga planes para
asistir a la Muestra 16 de diciembre
al ver demostraciones y actuaciones
de la mayoría de nuestras clases ELO

El PTO se enfoca en la participación comunitaria, la apreciación al personal, y mejorar la comunicación. Tenemos
eventos que viene que nos encantaría contar con el apoyo de voluntarios, tales como nuestro agradecimiento a los
maestros con café el 14 de diciembre, nuestro potluck de padres/maestros el 15 de diciembre, y una noche de cine
en enero. Todos los padres y profesores están invitados a la potluck PTO 15 de diciembre a las 4:30 (venga cuando se
puede) en la sala de profesores. Este será un buen tiempo para satisfacer y saludar y comer unas deliciosas golosinas.
Traiga un plato de comida si quieres! Días de reuniones se moverán a jueves a partir de enero.
