Christmas Eve Masses—Saturday, December 24 Christmas Day
December 18, 2011 Fourth Sunday in advent Fourth Sunday of Advent We continue the Liturgical Season of Advent, which is a time of “spiritual preparation” by the faithful before Christmas. We light the fourth (and last) Advent candle. The progression of lighting all the candles on the Advent wreath shows our increasing readiness to meet our Lord and welcome Him into our hearts on Christmas Day. As we enter the last week of Advent, all these efforts are meant to help purify our hearts and prepare us for the celebration and great message of Christmas. FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 18, 2011 Stewardship of Treasure How shall I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” Psalm 116 When he discovered that Mary was with child, Joseph resolved to end their engagement with as little disgrace as possible. But obedient to the voice of God, he changed those plans and became instead the protector of the child Jesus and his mother, Mary. God grant that I may be as open to the leading of the Holy Spirit! The IRA Charitable Rollover is back for another year! In 2011, direct gifts to Cathedral of Christ the King from your IRA can: 1. Be an easy and convenient way to make a gift from one of your major assets 2. Be excluded from your gross income: a tax-free rollover 3. Count toward your required minimum distribution For your gift to us to qualify for benefits under the extension: You must be 70 1/2 or older at the time of your gift The transfer must go directly from your IRA to CTK Your total IRA gift(s) cannot exceed $100,000 Your gift must be outright—transfers to a charitable trust or in exchange for a charitable gift annuity do not qualify. And don’t miss out on these little-known pointers! One-Step Gift: A direct transfer of IRA funds to CTK may offer relief from the application of the alternative minimum tax (AMT). Two-Step Gift: Consider giving us appreciated securities that you own outside of your IRA instead, and use your distribution to replace those securities in your portfolio—thereby establishing a new and higher cost basis. Or diversify your portfolio by purchasing other investments. Question? Contact Deanna Franco at [email protected].
