APPLICATION PROCESS
The application must be completed and signed by the parent/guardian and the principal/designee of the
school of attendance, and submitted to the SAS school of choice. It is recommended that a brief interview
and review of work samples for very young children be included to complete a student profile for
appropriate educational placement. The teacher or administrator familiar with student’s eligibility must
also sign the application (see below).
CRITERIA
SAS sites are open to applicants currently in grades Pre-K–11 who reside within the LAUSD boundaries.
Students who demonstrate superior academic achievement may apply. These applicants must meet one of
the following:
1. Students currently on the magnet waiting list for gifted/high-ability or highly gifted magnet centers
are eligible.
2. Students identified as gifted/talented in the intellectual, high achievement, or specific academic
categories are eligible.
3. Students who have national percentile scores of 85 or above on standardized achievement tests in
both total reading and total mathematics.
4. Students who have scaled scores on the California Standards Test (CST) as follows:
___A scaled score of 445 or above in English-Language Arts, grades 2–11 and
___A scaled score of 450 or above in mathematics, grades 2–7 or
___A scaled score of 450 or above for grades 8 and above in one of the following math content
subjects: Algebra I or II; Geometry; Integrated Math I, II, or III; High School Summative Math
5. Students who demonstrate mastery of all four of the critical-thinking and problem-solving skills in
their primary language:

PROCESO DE APLICACION
La solicitud debe estar completa y firmada por el padre o tutor, el director o la persona designada de la
escuela a la cual el estudiante asiste, y debe ser entregada a la escuela SAS de su selección. Se
recomienda tener una entrevista con los estudiantes muy jóvenes y revisar los datos para seleccionar el
mejor puesto educativo. El maestro o director que conozca la eligibilidad del estudiante debe también
firmar la solicitud (vea el pie de la página).
REQUISITOS
Estudiantes que residen dentro de los perímetros de DEULA y que están matriculados actualmente del
kinder al onceavo grado podrán solicitar ingreso. Estudiantes que han demostrado un nivel académico
superior pueden aplicar. Estos estudiantes deben reunir uno de los siguientes:
1. Estudiantes que están actualmente en la lista de espera para los centros especializados para
estudiantes dotados y de alta capacidad o excepcionalmente dotados (conocidos como “Magnet”) son
elegibles.
2. Estudiantes que hayan sido identificados como dotados/talentosos en las categorías de intelectual, alta
capacidad, o habilidad específica son elegibles.
3. Estudiantes que obtengan un porcentaje nacional de 85% o más en los exámenes uniformes de
aprovechamiento en matemáticas y en lectura.
4. Estudiantes que obtengan una calificación en los exámenes de California Standards Test (CST) como
es descrito enseguida:
____Una puntuación en la escala de 445 o más en Artes de Lenguaje, grados 2–11 y
____Una puntuación en la escala de 450 o más en Matemáticas, grados 2–7 o
____Una puntuación en la escala de 450 o más en materias matemáticas, grados 8 en
adelante en uno de los cursos siguientes: Algebra I o II; Geometría; Matemáticas
Integrada I, II, o III; Matemáticas Sumativa en la escuela superior
5. Estudiantes que demuestren maestría, en su idioma natal, en todas las cuatro habilidades siguientes,
las cuales indican la capacidad de pensar analíticamente y resolver problemas.
___ Explicar el significado o la relación entre hechos, información, o conceptos que demuestran
su entendimiento de profundidad y complejidad.
___ Formular ideas o soluciones nuevas y elaborar detalladamente la informacíon.
___ Usar métodos alternativos para resolver problemas matemáticos nuevos o desconocidos.
___ Usar correctamente y con facilidad un amplio vocabulario para expresar ideas creativas.
