2015Aug9 - St. Mary Catholic Church
Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 9, 2015 To strengthen him for the journey, God provides Elijah with cake and water, reminiscent of his ancestors’ Pasch. Thus he experiences the goodness of the Lord. Jesus, the bread of life, strengthens us for our journey, following His way of love. Prv 9:1-6 Ps 34:2-7 Eph 5:15-20 Jn 6:51-58 Parish Staff Pastor ~ Rev. Ron Nelson Parochial Vicar ~ Rev. Edgar Rivera Pastoral Associate ~ Deacon Tom Altenhofen Business Manager ~ Laura Olguin Director of Outreach Ministry ~ Lilly Hagen Director of Music ~ David Phillips Director of Religious Ed. ~ Julie Rutledge-Sanchez Parish Secretary ~ Sally Ross Sacramental Registrar ~ Margaret Fleming LifeTeen Coordinator ~ Leslie Jones Lead Custodian ~ James DuChateau Assistant Custodian ~ Joe Crandall Altar Servers One of the best ways any youth can actively participate in the life of the Church is as an Altar Server. Serving at the altar is not only a great privilege; it is also the source of great blessings. In committing to their duties, altar servers truly participate in the Eucharist. They learn the Order of Mass, the aspects of the sanctuary, and the various altar vessels used in the Mass. Altar servers assist the priest and deacon during the Mass. This is a great way for young people to get close to Christ in the Mass and to the very heart of the Church. Altar serving is not limited to the youth. All members of our parish, young and old, prayerfully should consider offering their special talents and time to serving one of our weekday/weekend Masses. If you are interested in serving, please contact the Parish office at 541- 342-1139. Mass Schedule Monday – Friday ~ 6:55 am & 12:15 pm Saturday ~ 8:00 am Sunday Vigil (Saturday evening) ~ 5:30 pm Sunday ~ 7:30 am, 9:00 am, 11:00 am 1:00 pm (Spanish), 5:30 pm LifeTeen National Holidays ~ 9:00 am Confessions 11:00 – noon ~ Wednesday & Friday 4:00 pm & 7:00 pm ~ Saturday Gift Bearers The honor of being a gift bearer requires no special skill or permanent ministerial duty, yet it is a beautiful and significant part of the Mass performed by lay people. The gift bearers present the wine and hosts to the presiding priest for consecration. What an honor that holds! Please, when asked to be a gift bearer at Mass, consider it a beautiful and special moment of honoring our Lord. The Ministry of Ushering Lectoring A lector is someone who proclaims the first and second readings during the Mass. Through this ministry, God’s living Word continues to be proclaimed to His people. Becoming a lector is a commitment to your faith and parish. Persons who can speak distinctly and in a convincing manner are eligible to be lectors. Please contact the Parish Office if you are interested in this ministry. Your willingness to serve God in the capacity as an usher reflects your commitment to Christ. By assuring a welcoming presence and orderly seating at all Masses offered in this Parish, you enhance the beauty of the Liturgy and become the Lord’s face and voice for those who enter and depart the church. If you are interested in ushering at any of the weekend Masses, please contact the Parish Office or talk to one of the ushers at the Mass you attend. Note that these words are either directly from Jesus or from people complaining about Jesus. These three statements form the foundation or basis for much of what Catholics believe about the Eucharist today. The statements are: “I am the bread that came down from heaven,” “I am the bread of life,” and “I am the living bread that came down from heaven.” Why are these three “I am” statements so important? Bread is one of the basic and most important foods that people eat. Is Jesus important to you? Talk about why He is important to you.
