Planning Team Meeting

Meeting Norms
After several minutes of table discussion, members were asked to share their suggestions for
group norms. Together, the team agreed on the following.
 Give full attention to the speaker
 Establish, publish in advance, and adhere to the beginning and ending times for all
meetings
 Leave disagreements in the room
 Be open minded
 Respect each other
 Speak clearly and loud enough to be heard by all
 Be engaged and involved
 Remain on topic
 No personal attacks
 One person speaks at a time
 No personal agendas
Our Mission
Dr. Winbush facilitated discussion among the group regarding our purpose and why we are
here. Brief discussion led to the development of the following mission statement:
Evaluate the current configuration of Hunley Park and Lambs to determine the best
educational opportunities for our scholars.
Personal Objectives
Dr. Winbush reminded team members that, although we love our schools, we must remember
that our focus should be what is best for our children. We must be open minded and consider
the best options for everyone.
Rumors and Questions about Principals
Dr. Winbush assured the team that Charleston County School District has no plans to close
either school, despite any rumors that may be circulating. Any decisions about principal
placements will be decided by the Associate Superintendent and Dr. McGinley. They are in the
best position to make such decisions based on their knowledge of the strengths, skills, and
areas of expertise of the principals.
Presentation
Background information and school data were presented by Dr. Winbush including enrollment
data for several years, current number of classes and teachers at each grade level in each
school.
Dr. Winbush explained that each two meetings of this group will be followed by a community
meeting that all parents and other stakeholders may attend. The work of the planning team will
be shared at the community meetings. Our work needs to be completed and a
recommendation submitted by the end of November.
Voting
The group discussed and unanimously agreed that in order to vote, you must be informed, and
you must be present in order to be informed. Therefore the following was approved:
In order to be a voting member, you must not miss more than 2 of 6 meetings.
You must be present for two-thirds of the meetings.
Information Needed
Table groups were instructed to think about the possibility of configuration changes or doing
something different with these two schools and identify items/information they would need to
help them make decisions and plans. The following items were identified:
 Budget constraints
 Building plans
 Tours
 Capacity for both schools
 Capacity for growth
 Attendance lines
 Future bus transportation
 Census data – 2010
 Middle school requirements
 Zucker capacity
 Could Lambs be a middle school and Hunley Park a magnet?
 Stakeholder concerns
 Cross data
 Staff allocations
Dr. Winbush will gather as much of this information as possible for the next meeting.

oportunidad educativa para nuestros estudiantes.

Dr. Winbush recordó a los miembros del equipo, que, aunque amamos a nuestra escuela
debemos recordar que nuestro enfoque esta en lo que debe ser mejor para nuestros
estudiantes. Debemos ser de mente abierta y considerar las mejores opciones para todos.
Rumores y Preguntas sobre las Directoras
Dr. Winbush aseguro al equipo que El Distrito Escolar del Condado de Charleston no tiene
planes de cerrar ninguna escuela, a pesar de los rumores que pueden estar circulando.
Cualquier decisión sobre las colocaciones de las directoras será tomada por El Superintendente
asociado y Dr. McGinley. Ellos están en la mejor posición para tomar esas decisiones basado
en el conocimiento de fortalezas, habilidades y áreas de especialización de las directoras.

incluyendo datos de inscripción durante varios años, números de clases actuales y profesores
en cada nivel de grado.
Dr. Winbush explico que cada una de las dos reuniones de este grupo serán seguidos por una
cita de la comunidad donde todos los padres y accionistas pueden asistir. El trabajo del equipo
de planificación será compartido en las juntas de la comunidad. Nuestro trabajo necesita ser
completado y una recomendación debe ser presentada para finales de Noviembre.
Votación
El grupo examine y acordó unánimemente que para poder votar, debe estar informada, y debe
estar presente para estar informada. Por lo tanto se aprobó lo siguiente:
Con el fin de ser un miembro con derecho a voto, no debes de faltar más de 2 de las 6
juntas. Deben estar presentes dos terceras partes de las reuniones.
