Over 1 million deer collisions occur annually, causing 200 fatalities and $4 billion in vehicle damage. • Deer generally travel in herds — if you see one, slow down, there are like others nearby. • Be aware of posted deer crossing signs. These are placed in active deer crossing areas. • Remember deer are most active between 6 pm and 9 pm and also in the early morning. • Use high beam headlamps as much as possible to illuminate the areas from which deer will enter roadways. • Avoid distracted driving. Being alert can allow you to react quickly. • If a deer collision seems inevitable, hold your course, attempting to swerve out of the way could cause you to lose control of your vehicle or place you in the path of an oncoming vehicle. • Don't rely on car–mounted deer whistles. Se registran más de 1 millón de colisiones con ciervos al año, causando 200 fatalidades y $4 billones en daños a vehículos. • Los ciervos suelen viajar en manadas - si ve uno, baje la velocidad, dado que puede haber otros cerca. • Esté atento a las señales de cruce de ciervos. Estas se encontrarán en zonas donde es usual que los ciervos crucen. • Recuerde que el período de mayor actividad de los ciervos es de 6 pm a 9 pm y temprano por la mañana. • Utilice las luces altas cuando sea posible para iluminar las zonas por las que los ciervos ingresarán a la carretera. • Evite las distracciones al conducir. Mantenerse alerta le permitirá reaccionar rápidamente. • Si la colisión con un ciervo parece inevitable mantenga su curso. Dar un volantazo para evitarlo podría causar la pérdida de control del vehículo, o podría colocarlo en el camino de otro vehículo. • No dependa de los silbatos para ciervos montados en los vehículos.
