BREAD OF LIFE
“I am the living bread that came down from
heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever;
and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the
life of the world….unless you eat the flesh of the
Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have
life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks
my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on
the last day.”
How many times Jesus uses the ‘I am’
statements to describe Himself. This is the name
God revealed to Moses in the book of Exodus.
Usually the references are descriptive, as the good
shepherd giving His life for the sheep, or the vine
and branches needing to be connected. Sometimes
Jesus uses them to describe Himself, as way, truth
and life, or the gate and gatekeeper. Constantly we
are reminded of these descriptions.
The passage today speaks of the reality, He Is
the bread of life, and the prime source of life for us.
Christ is present to give us the gift of eternal life. The
Eucharist is the source of that life. We are called to
approach this sacrament with faith, reverence and
devotion. After receiving the great gift of the
Eucharist, take time to reflect, to thank and realize
that Christ is present in me, to give me life.
What I do with that life is supported and directed
by Him. It is this gift which will lead me home.
SCHOOL OF RELIGION

parishioners of St. Mary – Our Lady of Mount Carmel
will be on Sat., Aug. 29th from 2-4pm in the Rectory
office. Please bring a copy of your child’s baptismal
certificate on the day of registration. If you know
anybody who wants to register their child for PSR, please
let them know the times of registration.

Le damos una cálida bienvenida a nuestra nueva familia de
la iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Monte Carmelo.
EL PAN DE VIDA
“Yo soy el pan vivo bajado del cielo. El que coma
de este pan vivirá eternamente, y el pan que yo daré
es mi carne para la Vida del mundo … Les aseguro
que si no comen la carne del Hijo del hombre y no
beben su sangre, no tendrán Vida en ustedes. El que
come mi carne y bebe mi sangre tiene Vida eterna, y
yo lo resucitaré en el último día.”
A menudo Jesús declara ‘Yo soy’ cuando se describe
a sí mismo. Este es el nombre que Dios reveló a Moisés
en el libro de Éxodo. Las referencias son usualmente
descriptivas, como la del buen pastor dando vida a sus
ovejas, o la de la viña y las ramas que necesitan estar
conectadas.
Algunas veces Jesús las utiliza para
describirse como el camino, la verdad y la vida, o la
puerta y portero. Estas descripciones se nos recuerdan
constantemente.
El pasaje de hoy habla de la realidad: Él es el pan de
vida y nuestra principal fuente de vida. Cristo está
presente para darnos el don de la vida eterna.
La Eucaristía es la fuente de esa vida. Somos
llamados a tomar este sacramento con fe, reverencia y
devoción. Después de recibir el gran don de la Eucaristía,
tome tiempo para reflexionar, agradecer y darse cuenta
de que Cristo está presente en nosotros, para darnos
vida.
Lo que hago con esa vida está apoyado y dirigido por
El. Es este don el que me llevará a casa.
