Jesus does not exclude sinners... he “prefers sinners” to forgive them.
... Christ does not focus on how many will be saved, but rather, how
to know the way to salvation. ... Jesus tells us that there is a door that
permits us to enter into God’s family, in the warmth of the house of
God, into communion with him. This door is Jesus himself. Pope
Francis told the faithful that no one is excluded from entering this
door, even those feel that they are excluded because of their sins.
“But, Father, surely I am excluded, because I am a great sinner: I
have done ugly things, many ugly things in my life.’ No, you are not
excluded!,” the Pope exclaimed. “Precisely because of this you are
preferred, because Jesus prefers the sinner, always, to forgive them.
Jesus is always waiting for you, to embrace you, to forgive you. Do
not be afraid: he is waiting for you. Wake up, take heart to enter his
door. Everyone is invited to enter by this door, to enter the door of
faith, to enter into his life, and to let him enter our life...transform it,

UNA EMERGENCIA: EL HOMBRE

Con alegría le transmito
el saludo cordial del Santo Padre
Francisco a Su Excelencia, a los organizadores y a todos los
participantes del Meeting por la amistad entre los pueblos,
que llega a su XXXIV edición. El tema elegido – «Una
emergencia: el hombre» – intercepta la gran urgencia de
evangelización de la que tantas veces ha hablado el Santo
Padre, siguiendo a Sus predecesores, y ha suscitado en él
profundas consideraciones que a continuación le reporto.
El hombre es el camino de la Iglesia: así escribía
el beato Juan Pablo II en su primera encíclica, Redemptor
hominis (n. 14). Esta verdad sigue siendo válida, sobre todo
en nuestro tiempo, cuando la Iglesia, en un mundo cada vez
más globalizado y virtual, en una sociedad cada vez más
secularizada y privada de puntos de referencia estables, está
llamada a redescubrir su propia misión, concentrándose
sobre lo esencial, y buscando nuevos caminos de evangelización.
El hombre sigue siendo un misterio, irreductible a
cualquier imagen que de él se forme en la sociedad y que el
poder mundano trate de imponer. Misterio de libertad y de
gracia, de pobreza y de grandeza. ¿Pero qué significa que
el hombre es el “camino de la Iglesia”? Y sobre todo, ¿qué
quiere decir para nosotros hoy recorrer este camino?
El hombre es camino de la Iglesia porque es el camino recorrido por Dios mismos. Desde los albores de la humanidad,
después del pecado original, Dios se pone en busca del hombre. «¿Dónde estás?» – preguntó a Adán, que se escondía en
el jardín del paraíso (Gen 3,9). Esta pregunta, que aparece
al inicio del Libro del Génesis y que no deja de resonar a
lo largo de toda la Biblia y en cada momento de la historia
que Dios, a lo largo de los milenios, ha construido con la
humanidad, alcanza en la encarnación del Hijo su expresión
más alta. Afirma san Agustín en su comentario al Evangelio
de Juan: «Permaneciendo junto al Padre, [el Hijo] es verdad
y vida; haciéndose hombre, se hizo camino» (I, 34, 9). Por
tanto, es Jesucristo «el camino principal de la Iglesia», pero
puesto que él «es también el camino hacia cada hombre», el
hombre se convierte en «el camino primero y fundamental
de la Iglesia» (Redemptor hominis, 13-14).
«Yo soy la puerta», afirma Jesús (Jn 10,7): yo soy,
por tanto, el portal de acceso a todos los hombres y a todas las cosas. Sin pasar a través de Cristo, sin concentrar
sobre Él la mirada de nuestro corazón y de nuestra mente,
no entenderemos nada del misterio del hombre. Y así, casi
de forma inadvertida, nos veremos constreñidos a tomar de
nuestro mundo nuestros criterios de juicio y de acción, y
cada vez que nos acerquemos a nuestros hermanos en humanidad seremos como esos “ladrones y salteadores” de los
que habla Jesús en el Evangelio (Jn 10,8). De hecho, también el mundo, a su modo, está interesado en el hombre. El
poder económico, político, mediático, necesita del hombre
para perpetuarse e inflarse a sí mismo. Y por eso a menudo
trata de manipular a las masas, de inducir deseos, de eliminar lo más precioso que el hombre posee: su relación con
Dios. El poder teme a los hombres que están en diálogo con
Dios porque eso les hace libres y no asimilables.
Esta es por tanto la emergencia-hombre que el Meet

mismo, a su más alta dignidad, a la unicidad y preciosidad
de toda existencia humana desde su concepción hasta su término natural. Hay que volver a tomar en consideración la
sacralidad del hombre y al mismo tiempo decir con fuerza
que es sólo en la relación con Dios, es decir, en el descubrimiento y en la adhesión a la propia vocación, donde el
hombre puede alcanzar su verdadera estatura. La Iglesia, a
la que Cristo confió su Palabra y sus Sacramentos, custodia
la mayor esperanza para el hombre, la posibilidad más auténtica de realización para el hombre, en todas las latitudes
y en todos los tiempos. ¡Qué gran responsabilidad tenemos!
No guardemos para nosotros este precioso tesoro que todos,
conscientemente o no, buscan. Salgamos con coraje al encuentro de los hombres y mujeres de nuestro tiempo, de los
niños y de los ancianos, de los “doctos” y de la gente sin instrucción alguna, de los jóvenes y de las familias. ¡Salgamos
al encuentro de todos, sin esperar a que sean ellos los que
nos busquen! Imitemos en esto a nuestro divino Maestro,
que dejó su cielo para hacerse hombre y estar cerca de cada
uno de nosotros. No sólo a las iglesias y a las parroquias, por
tanto, sino a todos los ambientes, llevemos el perfume del
amor de Cristo (2 Cor 2,15). A las escuelas, a las universidades, a los lugares de trabajo, a los hospitales, a las cárceles;
pero también a las plazas, a las calles, a los centros deportivos y a los locales donde la gente se encuentra. ¡No seamos
avaros al donar lo que nosotros mismos hemos recibido sin
mérito alguno! No debemos tener miedo de anunciar a Cristo tanto en las ocasiones oportunas como en las inoportunas
(2 Tm 4,2), con respeto y con franqueza.
Esta es la tarea de la iglesia, y esta es la tarea de todo
cristiano: servir al hombre yendo a buscarlo hasta los meandros sociales y espirituales más escondidos. La condición
de credibilidad de la Iglesia en esta misión suya de madre y
maestra es la fidelidad a Cristo. La apertura hacia el mundo
está acompañada, y en cierto sentido es posible, por la obediencia a la verdad. “Una emergencia: el hombre” significa
pues la emergencia de volver a Cristo, de aprender de Él la
verdad sobre nosotros mismos y el mundo, y con Él y en Él
ir al encuentro de los hombres, especialmente de los más
pobres, por quienes Jesús siempre mostró su predilección.
Y la pobreza no es sólo la material. Existe una pobreza espiritual que aferra al hombre contemporáneo. Somos pobres
de amor, sedientos de verdad y justicia, mendigos de Dios,
como sabiamente el siervo de Dios Mons. Luigi Giussani
siempre destacó. La mayor pobreza es la falta de Cristo, y
mientras no llevemos a Jesús a los hombres siempre habremos hecho por ellos demasiado poco
Excelencia, deseo que estos breves pensamientos
puedan ser de ayuda para aquellos que forma parte del
Meeting. Su Santidad Francisco asegura a todos Su cercanía
en la oración y Su afecto; espero que los encuentros y las
reflexiones de estos días puedan prender en el corazón de
todos los participantes un fuego que alimente y sostenga su
testimonio del Evangelio en el mundo. Y de corazón le envía a Usted, a los responsables, a los organizadores de este
evento, así como a todos los presentes, una particular Bendición Apostólica.

‘Esfuércense de entrar por la puerta estrecha, porque
muchos intentarán entrar pero no lo lograrán’. ¿Qué nos quiere
decir Jesús? ¿Cuál es la puerta por la que tenemos que entrar? ¿Por
qué Jesús habla de una puerta angosta?
La imagen de la puerta retorna varias veces en el evangelio y nos evoca aquella de la casa, del hogar en donde encontramos
seguridad, amor, calor. Jesús dice que es una puerta que nos hace
entrar en la familia de Dios, en el calor de la casa de Dios, de la
comunión con Él. Aquella puerta es el mismo Jesús.
Él es el camino a la salvación, Él nos conduce al Padre.
Y la puerta que es Jesús nunca está cerrada, está abierta siempre a
todos sin distinción, sin exclusión, sin privilegios.
Porque saben, Jesús no excluye a nadie. Alguien podrá
decir, ‘Padre seguramente yo estoy excluido porque soy un gran
pecador, he hecho cosas feas, tantas en la vida’. No, no estás excluido, justamente eres el preferido, porque Jesús prefiere a los
pecadores, siempre, para perdonarlos, amarlos. Jesús te está esperando para abrazarte, para perdonarte. No tengas miedo, Él te
espera. Anímate, toma coraje para entrar por su puerta.
Todos están invitados a entrar por ésta puerta, a entrar por
la puerta de la fe, a entrar en su vida y a hacerlo entrar en nuestra vida, de manera que Él la transforme, la renueve, de dones, de
gozo pleno y duradero.
