Mass intentions /Las Intenciones de Misa
Masses can be celebrated any day for living or deceased loved
ones. The Diocesan stipend is $15.00. What a beautiful way to
remember and honor those we love. We have beautiful Mass
cards for both the living and the deceased. If you would like a
Mass intention please contact the parish office. If you want the
name to appear in the Sunday bulletin, requests should be submitted before Monday.

Because have to submit the bulletins to the printer in an accelerated
schedule because of the Holidays, as example the bulletin for December
22 had to be submitted by December 11, there will not be any reporting
of weekly donations until the bulletin of January 12th 2014. At that time
we will include all those not reported.

Noon Year’s Eve for Children
Because kids deserve a countdown too! Music, games and
prizes and free ice-skating Tuesday December 31st from
11am to 1:00pm at Riverbank Park located at 145th St. and Riverside Drive. See the flyer on the back table.

Love and Family
For generations, various cultures regarded family life merely as
a utilitarian necessity. Sirach introduces honor and respect.
For Jews and Christians alike, the value of family goes even
further. The family is seen as the indispensable school where
love is learned. Paul addresses the Colossians and offers a list
of virtues that make for a solid and happy church. These
values also make for a happy family at ease with itself and its
members: mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, patience,
forgiveness. As a capstone, Paul urges love, which brings all of
these domestic virtues to perfection.
Paul seems to be on a roll as he lauds the virtues of the
church at Colossae. With such heartfelt virtues, it is no
wonder Paul bursts into song. Who wouldn’t? It’s clear that
the center of the church is love. It is clear that no matter how
far from home the members travel, the heart remains and all
the members are connected by the gravitational pull of mutual
love, a love first learned in family life.
It’s Christmas
And once again we choose to rejoice. We choose to sing
Christmas carols and glorify God for the birth of the Savior,
the light in our darkness. How can we rejoice in the face of all
the trouble that surrounds us? And yet, how can we not
rejoice when we remember all that God has done in Jesus?
Jesus showed us the depth of God’s passionate zeal for us.
God’s powerful passion for us brought the Lord of Hosts to
share our trials as the poorest of the poor and to save us
from our suffering by his suffering. We choose joyful hope
because we believe that what God has done once, God is
doing now and will do again. God is with us to save us here
and now, no matter how troubled the world may be, in Jesus
Christ. Confident in God’s passionate zeal for all creation, we
join “heaven and nature” in rejoicing over the “wonders of his
love.”
Three Kings Day Parade and Celebration
On Friday, January 6, 2013, the Museo del Barrio hosts
their Annual Three Kings Day Parade. The parade starts at
11:00am at 106th and 3rd avenue. Where else can you find live
camels, music, colorful puppets, dancing, and parrandas in one

Martin Luther KIng
The Central Harlem vicariate is having the Martin Luther King
Celebration here at St. Joseph’s. We will celebrate the life of
this great American Friday January 17th, 2014 at 7:00pm.
The guest speaker this year will be Rev. Al Sharpton. All are
welcome.

La Familia y Amor
Por generaciones, diversas culturas han considerado la vida
familiar como una necesidad sumamente útil. El libro de
Sirácide introduce el honor y el respeto. Tanto para los judíos
como para los cristianos, el valor de la familia da otro audaz y
espléndido paso. La familia es vista como la escuela
indispensable donde se aprende el amor. Pablo se dirige a los
Colosenses y presenta una lista de virtudes que ayudan a crear
una Iglesia sólida y feliz. Estas virtudes —misericordia, bondad,
humildad, docilidad, paciencia, perdón— contribuyen también
a que una familia feliz se sienta cómoda consigo misma y con
sus miembros. Y como pilar, Pablo insta al amor que eleva
todas estas virtudes a la perfección.
Pablo parece estar muy entusiasmado cuando exalta las
virtudes de la Iglesia en Colosas. Con estas virtudes tan
sentidas no es de extrañar que Pablo rompa a cantar: ¡Quién
no haría lo mismo!
Está claro que el centro de su círculo es el amor. Es evidente
que no importa cuan lejos sus miembros estén del hogar, el
corazón siempre está allí y todos ellos están conectados por la
fuerza gravitatoria del amor mutuo.
Es Navidad
Y una vez más decidimos alegrarnos. Como la pareja rechazada
y los pastores pobres del Evangelio de hoy, como los asediados
y temerosos israelitas, decidimos cantar villancicos y dar gloria
a Dios por el nacimiento del Salvador, la luz en nuestra
oscuridad. ¿Cómo podemos alegrarnos en medio de todos los
conflictos que nos rodean? Y sin embargo, ¿cómo podemos
dejar de alegrarnos al recordar todo lo que Dios ha hecho en
Jesús?
Jesús nos mostró la profundidad del ardiente y apasionado
amor de Dios por nosotros. La poderosa pasión de Dios por
nosotros nos trajo al Señor del universo, para compartir
nuestras luchas como el más pobre entre los pobres y para
librarnos de nuestro sufrimiento con su sufrimiento. Nosotros
decidimos alegrarnos con esperanza, porque creemos que lo
que Dios hizo una vez lo hace ahora y lo hará de nuevo. Dios
está con nosotros para salvarnos aquí y ahora en Cristo Jesús,
no importa cuán conflictivo sea el mundo. Confiados en el
amor apasionado de Dios por toda la creación, nos unimos al
cielo y a la tierra para alegrarnos por las maravillas de su
amor .

El Vicariato de Central Harlem tendra la Celebración de
Martin Luther King aquí en San José. Vamos a celebrar la vida
de este gran americano viernes el 17 de enero de 2014 a las
