Vinaròs, pertenece a la provincia de
Castellón y dista 79 km de su capital,
Castellón de la Plana. A su vez, es la capital
de la comarca del Baix Maestrat y es el
primer municipio de la zona norte de la
Comunidad Valenciana. Vinaròs se sitúa a
orillas del mar Mediterráneo pero esta muy
próxima a comarcas montañosas como la
Tinença de Benifassà o Els Ports.

Vinaròs appartient à la province de Castelló
et se trouve à 79 km de la capitale, Castelló
de la Plana. La ville est à la fois le chef-lieu
de la région du Baix Maestrat et elle est la
première ville de la zone nord de Valence.
La ville de Vinaròs est située au bord de
la mer Méditerranée mais très proche des
zones montagneuses de la Tinença de
Benifassà ou Els Ports.

Vinaròs pertains to Castellón province and
lies 79 km from the capital, Castellón de la
Plana. It is, in turn, the capital of the Baix
Maestrat district and the largest city in the
northern area of the Valencian Community.
Vinaròs stands beside the Mediterranean
Sea but is very close to mountainous areas
such as Tinença de Benifassà and Els Ports.

Vinaròs, municipio de la Comunidad
Valenciana, está situado en el norte de la
provincia de Castellón y es la capital de la
comarca del Baix Maestrat. La ubicación
de la ciudad junto al mar Mediterráneo
y las numerosas culturas y civilizaciones
que han habitado estas tierras, han dejado
su huella plasmada en distintos aspectos
de su vida actual: en sus tradiciones, su
cocina, sus edificios y en su mar. Todas
estas son las claves que han hecho
que Vinaròs mantenga su importancia
histórica y cultural a lo largo de los siglos.
Vinaròs est une ville de la Communauté
Valencienne située au nord de la province
de Castellón, et le chef-lieu de la région du
Baix Maestrat. L’emplacement de la ville au
bord de la Méditerranée et les nombreuses
cultures et civilisations qui ont habité
cette terre ont laissé leur marque incarnée

Vinaròs, a city in the Valencian Community,
is located in the north of Castellón
province and is the capital of the Baix
Maestrat district. The city’s position
beside the Mediterranean Sea and the
numerous cultures and civilisations that
have inhabited these lands have left
their mark on different aspects of local
contemporary life: the city’s traditions,
its cuisine, its buildings and its sea. All of
these are the key points that have enabled
Vinaròs to maintain its historical and cultural
importance throughout the centuries.
Poblado Ibérico del Perengil.
Poblado Ibérico
A 6 km. de la población, y junto a la
Ermita de la Misericordia, se encuentra
el poblado ibérico de «El Puig»,
ubicado en una de las elevaciones
del término municipal, a 150 m. sobre
el nivel del mar. Se accede a él por la
carretera que conduce al Santuario, y
desde allí, por el camino del Vía Crucis
hasta la gran cruz, a cuyos pies se
encuentra el poblado.
El yacimiento arqueológico está
siendo objeto de excavaciones desde
el año 1.983 a cargo de los Servicios
Arqueológicos de la Diputación
Provincial, los cuales ha puesto al
descubierto parte de un asentamiento
ibérico que se supone estaría habitado
entre los siglos VII y I a.C.
VILLAGE IBERIQUE
À 6 km. de la commune, et à côté de l’Ermitage de la Misericordia, se trouve le village
ibérique « El Puig », situé sur une des hauteurs du territoire communal, à 150 m. audessus du niveau de la mer. On y accède par la route qui mène au Sanctuaire, puis, par
le chemin du Vía Crucis jusqu’à la grande croix, au pied de laquelle se trouve le village.
Le gisement archéologique fait l’objet de fouilles depuis 1983 par les Services
Archéologiques de la Députation Provinciale qui y a découvert une colonie ibérique
censée avoir été habitée entre les VIIe et Ier siècles av. J.C.
Iberian village

Six kilometres from the city, next to the Misericòrdia Sanctuary, is the Iberian village of
“El Puig”, located on one of the hills in the municipal district, 150 metres above the sea.
It is reached by the road that leads to the sanctuary and from there via the Via Crucis
path to the large cross, at the foot of which the village lies.
The archaeological site has been the object of digs by the Provincial Government’s
Archaeology Services since 1983, which have revealed part of an Iberian settlement
thought to have been inhabited between the 7th and 1st centuries BC.

La iglesia, obra de los maestros franceses
J. Triafont y M. Valganbol, está constituida
por una nave central y capillas laterales
entre los contrafuertes. La construcción
unifica funcionalidad religiosa y defensiva,
y tiene los rasgos característicos de los
templos fortaleza mediterráneos: torre
sólida, paso de ronda en la parte superior,
muralla sobre los corredores, muros en
talud, muros con troneras y aspilleras,
etc. Destaca la portalada retablo, una joya
del barroco valenciano, y la portalada
plateresca procedente de la primitiva
iglesia.

d’une nef centrale et de chapelles latérales
entre les contreforts. La construction allie
à la fois la fonction religieuse et défensive
et elle possède les traits caractéristiques
des temples-forteresse méditerranéens:
tour solide, chemin de ronde sur la partie
supérieure, muraille sur les couloirs,
murs inclinés, murs avec meurtrières et
embrasures, etc. À remarquer la façade
retable, bijou du baroque valencien et le
portail plateresque de l’église primitive.

The church, the work of the French
masters J. Triafont and M. Valganbol,
comprises a central nave and side
chapels between the buttresses. The
building unites religious and defensive
functionalities and has the characteristic
features of a Mediterranean churchfortress: a solid tower, a parapet walk at
the top, a rampart above the corridors,
sloping walls, walls with arrowslits, etc.
Of note is the altarpiece portal, a jewel of
Valencian Baroque, and the Plateresque
portal taken from the original church.

Capilla de la Comunión
abrite l’emblème eucharistique. On y voit
des stucs polychromes très intéressants
(1768), probablement peints par J. Esteve
Bonet. Les bas-reliefs, les corniches et
les dorées qui décorent l’intérieur sont
de R. Cifre et fils (1918). À remarquer les
intéressants travaux de stuc polychrome
(1768) attribués à Esteve Bonet.

Barroco S. XVII - XVIII
Esta Capilla, adosada a la iglesia y
comunicada con ella por el interior, se
construyó en dos fases. En la primera
fase, que tuvo lugar entre 1657 y 1667,
las obras la realizó J. Ibáñez. La segunda
fase se finalizó en 1794, proyecto del
arquitecto vinarocense fray P. Gonell. El
dintel adovelado barroco a través del cual
se accede a la capilla es obra de A. Ximbó
y presenta dos pilastras que sujetan un
frontón dividido en dos decorado con
bolas y puntas de diamante en los lados,
que alberga el emblema eucarístico.
En él podemos observar interesantes
trabajos de estuco policromado (1768),
probablemente pintados por J. Esteve
Bonet. Los relieves, cornisas y dorados
que decoran el interior son obra de R. Cifre
e hijos (1918). Destacan los interesantes
trabajos de estuco policromado (1768)
atribuidos a Esteve Bonet.

Chapel of the Comunió
Baroque XVIIe – XVIIIe S.
Cette chapelle, adossée à l’église et
communiquée avec elle par l’intérieur,
a été construite en deux phases. La
première phase a eu lieu entre 1657 et
1667, les travaux ayant été réalisés par J.
Ibañez. La deuxième phase a été achevée
en 1794, projet de l’architecte de Vinaròs
P. Fray Gonell. Le linteau baroque à
voussoirs par où l’on accède à la chapelle
a été fait par A. Ximbo et il présente deux
colonnes qui soutiennent un fronton
divisé en deux et orné de perles et de
pointes de diamant sur les côtés, qui

CHAPELLE DE LA COMMUNION
S. XVIII (1749-1762)
La iglesia del ex-convento de San Telmo,
hoy convertida en el auditorio municipal
Wenceslau Ayguals d’Izco, es un edificio
construido con mampostería y piedras
angulares. La fachada está en medio de
dos torres campanario de base cuadrada,
de tres cuerpos que acaban en una
balaustrada. La puerta, a los pies del
templo, es adintelada, con un óculo central
de mampostería revocada que simula
sillares. El edificio es de planta rectangular
y una sola nave dividida en cuatro tramos,
con capillas laterales comunicadas entre
sí. En el exterior es visible la cúpula del
crucero con tejas de color azul y blanco.
Destaca la tarjeta con el emblema de San
Agustín.

XVIIIe S. (1749-1762)
L’église de l’ancien couvent de San
Telmo, aujourd’hui auditorium municipal
Wenceslao Ayguals d’Izco, est un
bâtiment en maçonnerie et pierres
angulaires. La façade se trouve entre deux
clochers à base carrée, avec trois corps
finissant par une balustrade. La porte, au
pied du temple, est un linteau avec un
oculus central en maçonnerie qui simule
la pierre de taille. Le bâtiment possède
une base rectangulaire et une nef unique
divisée en quatre sections avec des
chapelles latérales reliés les unes avec les
autres. À l’extérieur on peut voir la voûte
du transept avec des tuiles bleues et
blanches. À remarquer l’inscription avec
l’emblème de Saint Augustin.

17th-18th Century Baroque
This chapel, attached to the church and
reached from the inside, was built in
two phases. In the first phase, between
1657 and 1667, the work was done by J.
Ibáñez. The second phase ended in 1794
and was a project of local architect Friar
P. Gonell. The Baroque voussoired lintel
through which the chapel is reached is the
work of A. Ximbó and features two pillars
holding a pediment decorated with balls
and diamond tips on both sides, which
houses the Eucharistic emblem. In it we
see interesting polychrome stucco works
(1768), probably painted by J. Esteve
Bonet. The reliefs, cornices and gilt works
that decorate the interior were made by
R. Cifre and Sons (1918). Of note are the
striking polychrome stucco works (1768)
attributed to Esteve Bonet.

Sant Elm Church Auditorium
18th Century (1749-1762)
The church of the former Convent of Sant
Elm, today the Wenceslau Ayguals d’Izco
Municipal Auditorium, is masonry building
with angular stonework. The façade is in
the middle of two square bell towers with
three bodies ending in a balustrade. The
door, at the foot of the church, is lintelled,
with a central plastered masonry oculus
simulating ashlars. The building has a
rectangular floor and a single nave divided
into four sections, with interconnected
side chapels. Outside we can see the blue
and white tiles of the cross on the dome.
Of note is the emblem of Sant Agustí.

Santuario
de la Misericordia
S. XV-XVIII
La existencia de una ermita en este lugar
ya fue documentada en el siglo XV. El
edificio primitivo ha sufrido constantes
renovaciones a lo largo de los siglos XVI
y XVII, pero su aspecto actual se debe a
las transformaciones del siglo XVIII. Las
obras las realizan los maestros de obras
J. Sánchez y J. Pujol. En 1722 se construye
una nueva nave, costeando los marineros
el retablo dedicado a san Sebastián y el
gremio de labradores sufragó el de San
Antonio. En 1733 se contrató, con F. e I.
Vergara, el nuevo retablo mayor que tenia
que albergar la imagen de Nuestra Señora
de la Misericordia. A principios del siglo
XIX, el pintor morellano J. Oliet realizó
la decoración al fresco de la bóveda.
Destacan los interesantes conjuntos
cerámicos del interior atribuidos a la
manufactura de l’Alcora (S. XVIII).

SANCTUAIRE DE LA
MISERICORDE
XVe-XVIIIe S.
L’existence d’un ermitage à cet endroit
est déjà documentée au XVe siècle. Le
bâtiment d’origine a souvent fait l’objet
de travaux de rénovation pendant les
XVIe et XVIIe siècles, mais les travaux
de restauration du XVIIIe siècle lui ont
donné son aspect actuel. Les travaux ont
été réalisés par les maîtres J. Sánchez
et J. Pujol. En 1722, une nouvelle nef a
été construite; le retable dédié à SaintSébastien a été payé par les marins et
celui de Saint Antoine par les agriculteurs.
En 1733, ils ont embauché F. et I. Vergara,
afin de réaliser le nouveau retable majeur
qui devait accueillir l’image de NotreDame de la Miséricorde. Au début du
XIXe siècle, le peintre de Morella J. Oliet
a réalisé la décoration de la fresque de la
voûte. À remarquer l’intéressant ensemble
céramique de l’intérieur provenant des
usines d’Alcora (XVIIIe S.).

Misericòrdia Sanctuary
15th-18th Century
The existence of a sanctuary on this site
was already documented in the 15th
century. The original building underwent
constant renovations during the 16th and
17th centuries, but its present appearance
is due to the transformations of the 18th
century. The works are by the master
builders J. Sánchez and J. Pujol. A new
nave was constructed in 1722, with sailors
paying for the altarpiece dedicated to Sant
Sebastià and the guild of farmers covering
the cost of that of Sant Antoni. F. and I.
Vergara were contracted in 1733 to make
the new altarpiece that would house the
image of the Virgin of Mercy. Morella-born
painter J. Oliet was responsible for the al
fresco decoration of the vault in the early
19th century. Of note are the interesting
ceramic series inside, attributed to the
Alcora factory (18th century).

Capilla Santa Victoria
Barroco S.XVIII
Capilla adosada a la iglesia del antiguo
convento de San Telmo, actualmente
Auditorio Municipal, construida para
albergar el cuerpo incorrupto de santa
Victoria, virgen y mártir. Desde 1785
Vinaròs contó con el cuerpo de la santa,
procedente del cementerio romano
de Lucina y otorgado por el obispo de
Solsona, Dr. Lasala. Los planos de la capilla
son obra del arquitecto vinarocense fray P.
Gonell. El 21 de agosto de 1788, acabada ya
la capilla, se deposita el cuerpo de la santa
y las veneradas imágenes del Santo Cristo
del Hospital y del Nazareno. Destaca la
reproducción de un retablo cerámico del
siglo XVIII.
CHAPELLE DE SAINTE VICTOIRE
Baroque XVIIIe S.
Il s’agit d’une chapelle adossée à l’église
de l’ancien couvent de San Telmo
(aujourd’hui utilisée comme Auditorium
municipal), construite pour garder le
corps intact de Sainte Victorie, vierge et
martyre. Depuis 1785, Vinaròs accueille le
corps de la sainte, provenant du cimetière
romain de Lucina et délivré par l’évêque
de Solsona, le Dr. Lasala. Les plans de la
chapelle ont été réalisés par l’architecte
de Vinaròs P. Gonell. Le 21 août de 1788,
une fois la chapelle finie, ils y ont déposé le
corps de la sainte et les images du SaintChrist de l’Hôpital et le Nazaréen dans
la chapelle. À remarquer la reproduction
d’un retable en céramique du XVIIIe siècle.

Casa Membrillera
MAISON MEMBRILLERA
Casa Membrillera
Renacentista S. XVIII
Casa noble conocida popularmente
como “casa de los Membrillera” o de
“les Coroneles”. Esta casa presenta una
planta baja de entrada, planta noble y
una barandilla con cinco ventanas con
arco de medio punto. En la fachada, sobre
una piedra, aparece gravado el año 1652
junto a la cruz de Malta, se trata de una
simple reutilización de esta piedra como
sillar para la construcción de la casa. El
escudo heráldico que se encuentra sobre
la puerta de entrada pertenece a D.J.M.
Febrer Calderón, marqués de Gironella
(1828-1887), descendiente de la familia
de los Febrer de la Torre. Recientemente
restaurada, en la actualidad es la sede de
la Fundació Caixa Vinaròs. En el interior
de la casa se ha pretendido plasmar
el pasado económico del pueblo con
exposiciones permanentes sobre la
agricultura, el comercio, la industria y la
pesca. Destaca el dintel de la fachada con
la fecha 1652 y el escudo.

Renaissance XVIIIe S.
Il s’agit d’une maison de la noblesse
connue comme “maison Membrillera” ou
“de les Coroneles”. Cette maison dispose
d’un rez-de-chaussée, d’un étage principal
et d’une balustrade avec cinq fenêtres
dotées d’un arc en cintre. Sur une pierre de
la façade on peut lire l’année 1652 à côté
de la croix de Malte, simple réutilisation de
cette pierre comme pierre de taille pour
la construction de la maison. L’écusson
héraldique qui est sur la porte d’entrée
appartient à D.J.M Febrer Calderón,
marquis de Gironella (1828-1887), de la
famille Febrer de la Torre. Récemment
restaurée, elle est aujourd’hui le siège
de la banque Fundació Caixa Vinaròs.
À l’intérieur de la maison, on a souhaité
reproduire le passé économique de la
ville avec des expositions permanentes
sur l’agriculture, le commerce, l’industrie
et la pêche. On remarque le linteau de la
façade avec la date 1652 et l’écusson.

18th Century Baroque
This chapel is attached to the church of
the former Convent of Sant Elm, currently
the Municipal Auditorium, built to house
the incorrupt body of Saint Victoria, virgin
and martyr. Vinaròs has held the saint’s
body since 1785, when it was brought
here from the Roman cemetery of Lucina
and awarded by the Bishop of Solsona, Dr.
Lasala. The chapel’s plans are the work of
local architect Fray P. Gonell. On 21 August
1788, with the chapel finished, the body of
the saint was put inside it, along with the
venerated images of the Holy Christ of
the Hospital and Nazareth. Of note is the
reproduction of an 18th-century ceramic
altarpiece.
18th Century Renaissance
A noble house known locally as “Casa de
los Membrillera” or “Les Coroneles”. The
house has a ground floor entrance, a main
floor and a balcony with five windows with
rounded arches. The year 1652 is engraved
on a stone on the façade, next to the
Maltese cross; it is a simple reutilisation of
the stone as an ashlar for the construction
of the house. The heraldic shield above
the entrance is that of D.J.M. Febrer
Calderón, the Marquis of Gironella (18281887), a descendant of the Febrer de la
Torre family. Recently restored, it is now
the headquarters of the Fundació Caixa
Vinaròs. Inside the house the idea was to
capture the economic past of the town
with permanent exhibitions on farming,
trade, industry and fishing. Of note is the
lintel of the façade with the date 1652 and
the shield.

La primera corrida de toros en Vinaròs
tuvo lugar en 1852, y en ella participó
la cuadrilla del “Relojero”. En 1863 se
construye la primera plaza de toros de
madera del municipio. Esta plaza se
desmontó para construir la actual, que se
inauguró durante la Feria y Fiestas de San
Juan y San Pedro en 1891. El marqués de la
Figuera y Fuente el Sol asumió el coste de
la obra. En 1920 la plaza fue adquirida por
D. E. Torres, quién la restauró debido a su
mal estado de conservación. Las reformas
se inauguraron en la feria y fiestas de ese
mismo año. La última restauración finalizó
en el año 2003, dándole el aspecto actual.
Destaca su situación, la más cercana a la
mar de la península.

S. XVIII (1784)
Antigua Escuela de Primeras Letras y Casa
del Peso de la Harina. Este edificio fue
realizado por el maestro albañil J. Fontes,
el carpintero P. Vives y el maestro herrero
A. Agell. La fachada original presentaba
dos ventanas y una puerta central de la
misma manera que en la actualidad, y tres
balcones con barandilla de hierro forjado
en la primera planta, que posteriormente
se unieron para formar el actual balcón.
En la fachada hay dos escudos, uno en
la puerta y el otro sobre el balcón, éste
último data de 1785. Destaca el escudo de
la ciudad y el balcón que recorre toda la
fachada.
La première « corrida » à Vinaròs date de
1852, avec la participation de la bande
«del Relojero». C’est en 1863 que les
premières arènes en bois de la ville ont été
construites. Celles-ci ont été démantelées
afin de construire les actuelles arènes qui
ont été inaugurées pendant la Fête de
la Saint Jean et Saint Pierre en 1891. Le
marquis de La Figuera y Fuente el Sol a
payé les travaux. En 1920, D. E. Torres a
acheté les arènes et a réalisé des travaux
de restauration car elles étaient en
très mauvais état. Les réformes ont été
inaugurées pendant « la feria » et les jours
de fête de cette année-là. La dernière
restauration a été achevée en 2003 pour
lui donner son aspect actuel. À remarquer
son emplacement, elle est la plus proche
de la mer de toute la péninsule.

XVIIIe S. (1784)
La mairie est l’ancienne École des
premières lettres et La Maison de la farine.
Ce bâtiment a été conçu par le maître
maçon J. Fontes, le menuisier P. Vives
et le maître forgeron A. Agell. La façade
originale avait deux fenêtres et une porte
centrale qu’on voit encore aujourd’hui, et
trois balcons avec balustrade en fer forgé
au premier étage, mais ont été unies par
la suite pour créer le balcon actuel. Sur la
façade il y a deux écussons, l’un à la porte
et l’autre sur le balcon, ce dernier datant
de 1785. À remarquer le blason de la ville
et le balcon qui parcourt toute la façade.
The first bullfight in Vinaròs took place in
1852 and involved the participation of the
“Relojero” (‘Clockmakers’) group. The first
wooden municipal bullring was built in
1863. The ring was dismantled to build the
current one, which opened during the Fair
and Festivals of St. Joan and St. Pere in
1891. The Marquis de La Figuera y Fuente el
Sol paid for the works. In 1920, the bullring
was bought by D. E. Torres, who restored
it due to its poor state of conservation.
The new bullring was inaugurated at the
saints’ festival that same year. The most
recent restoration was completed in 2003,
giving the bullring its present appearance.
Of note is its location, as it is the bullring
closest to the sea on the whole of the
Iberian Peninsula.

18th Century (1784)
Former School of First Letters and Flour
Weighing House. This building is the
work of the master builder J. Fontes,
the carpenter P. Vives and the master
blacksmith A. Agell. The original façade
had two windows and a central door, as
the current one does, and three balconies
with forged iron railings on the first floor,
which were subsequently united to form
the present balcony. There are two shields
on the façade, one on the door and the
other over the balcony. The latter dates
back to 1785. Of note is the city’s coat of
arms and the balcony spanning the length
of the façade.

El Puerto
Desde sus más remotos orígenes, la
ciudad ha estado volcada de manera
directa al mar.
La primera piedra del actual puerto
fue colocada el 9 de febrero de
1866, e inaugurado en 1875. En el
1885 se estrenaba la prolongación
del fondeadero. Ya en nuestro siglo,
el puerto fue resguardado con la
construcción de un muelle paralelo de
Poniente y un transversal de Levante.

Depuis ses origines les plus lointaines,
la ville a été directement influencée
par la mer.
La première pierre du port actuel a été

au cours de notre siècle que le port a
été protégé grâce à la construction
d’un quai parallèle «Poniente» et d’un
quai transversal «Levante».

The first stone of the current port was
placed on 9 February 1866 and the
port opened in 1875. The extension of
the anchorage area opened in 1885.
In this century, the port was shielded
with the construction of a western

Ecléctico S. XX
En 1928, en el solar donde estaba el antiguo convento de San Telmo, comenzaron
las obras de construcción del actual edificio del mercado, de acuerdo al proyecto del arquitecto castellonense F. Tomás
Traver. El mercado municipal, de planta
basilical, presenta las características propias de la denominada arquitectura del
hierro, dando lugar a un espacio amplio,
luminoso y bien ventilado. Presenta una
estructura formada por vigas de celosía
de hierro sobre columnas de fundición
ligeras y elegantes con capiteles decorados con motivos vegetales geométricos.
Ha sido totalmente restaurado en el año 2011.
Destaca la estructura de hierro sustentada por
esbeltas columnas con capiteles decorados
con estilizados motivos vegetales.

En 1928, là où il y avait l’ancien couvent
de San Telmo, la construction de l’actuel
bâtiment du marché a commencé, un
projet de l’architecte de Castellón F. Tomás
Traver. Le marché municipal, de plante
basilicale, présente les caractéristiques de
ladite architecture de fer, tout en créant
un endroit spacieux, lumineux et aéré. Il
présente une structure de poutres en fer
coulée sur des colonnes en fer léger et
élégantes avec des chapiteaux décorés
de motifs végétaux géométriques. Il a été
restauré en 2011. À remarquer la structure
en fer soutenue par de fines colonnes
avec des chapiteaux décorés et avec des
motifs végétaux stylisés.

20th Century Eclectic
Construction on the current market
building, on the site where the Convent of
Sant Elm used to be, began in 1928 as part
of a project by Castellón-based architect
F. Tomás Traver. The municipal market,
with a basilica-shaped floor, presents the
characteristics typical of what has been
called ‘iron architecture’, giving rise to a
large, bright and well-ventilated space. It
is a structure formed of iron lattice trusses
which rest on light and elegant cast-iron
columns ending in capitals decorated with
geometric plant motifs. The building was
fully restored in 2011. It is distinguished by
the iron structure supported by slender
columns with capitals decorated with
stylised plant motifs.

Monumento a Costa y Borras
El Arzobispo D. José Domingo Costa y
Borras, nació en Vinaròs, el 13 de enero del
año 1805. Fue una figura relevante de su
siglo. Pero el monumento que la ciudad
le erigió no fue debido a su carrera sino
por haber conseguido la construcción
de nuestro Puerto. El monumento, está
situado en el paseo marítimo.
La efigie del Arzobispo es una figura
hierática, solemne, de porte aristocrático,
y de un gran realismo, dentro de la escuela
castellana.
Con vestiduras talares y en actitud de
bendición, descansa sobre un pedestal
de tipo ecléctico en el cual aparecen,
respectivamente, en sus cuatro caras: una
lápida conmemorativa con el escudo de la
ciudad, sendos medallones en bronce con
las figuras de Manuel Febrer de la Torre
con su escudo de armas, y José Rafels
García, con el escudo de la provincia,
y en la parte posterior, una inscripción
acompañada del escudo del Arzobispo.

L’Archevêque José Domingo Costa y
Borras est né à Vinaròs le 13 janvier 1805.
Il fut un personnage important de son
siècle. Toutefois, le monument érigé par la
ville en son nom ne doit pas son origine
à sa carrière ecclésiastique mais au fait
qu’il est à l’origine de la construction de
notre port. Le monument est situé sur la
promenade maritime.
L’effigie de l’Archevêque est une
figure hiératique, solennelle, à la pose
aristocratique et dotée d’un grand
réalisme, appartenant à l’école castillane.
Il porte une soutane et il bénit, reposant
sur un piédestal de type éclectique sur
lequel apparaissent, respectivement, sur
ses quatre faces : une pierre tombale
commémorative
portant
l’écusson
de la ville, des médaillons en bronze
représentant Manuel Febrer de la Torre
avec ses armoiries, et José Rafels García,
avec l’écusson de la province ; puis, sur
la partie arrière, apparaît une inscription
flanquée de l’écusson de l’Archevêque.

Port. The monument is located on the

The effigy of the Archbishop is a hieratic

Dressed in a cassock and performing a
blessing, the sculpture rests on an eclectic
pedestal which features respectively on its
four sides: a commemorative slab with the
city’s coat of arms, bronze medals with the
figures of Manuel Febrer de la Torre with
his coat of arms, and José Rafels García,
with the shield of the province, and, at the
back, an inscription along with the shield
of the Archbishop.

Elle est célébrée le 17 Janvier. La veille
de Sant Antoni, à la tombée de la nuit,
des bûchers sont allumés sur différentes
places de la ville. Le jour suivant, on célèbre
la fête au Sanctuaire de la Miséricorde, où
il y a divers événements ainsi qu’un repas
populaire offert aux agriculteurs.

El día 20 de enero se rinde homenaje al
patrón de la ciudad. Esta festividad es
vivida por los vinarocenses con mucha
intensidad debido a la fe que se le profesa
al santo. Durante la jornada se realiza
una romería hasta el Santuario, a 6 km.
de la población, sobre la montaña de El
Puig. En este día se puede disfrutar de
actuaciones folclóricas, una misa y una
“paella” popular.

Sant Sebastià
The city’s patron saint is worshipped on 20
January. This feast day is lived intensely by
the locals because of the faith they have in
the saint. The event includes a pilgrimage
to the Sanctuary, six kilometres from the
city on El Puig mountain. It is a day to
enjoy folkloric performances, a mass and
a communal paella.
Carnaval
Cuarenta días antes de Cuaresma,
Vinaròs recibe el Carnaval, la fiesta más
viva del año. Es una fiesta multitudinaria
en la que llegan a participar 3.000
personas y más de 30 comparsas que,
acompañadas por el Rey Carnestoltes,
en los desfiles del sábado y domingo,
muestran
los
espectaculares
y
llamativos trajes. A parte de los desfiles,
la fantasía, el colorido y la música se
suceden actos organizados para todos
los públicos y edades durante la semana
de celebración, entre los que destacan
la batalla de la harina o la noche
del pijama. La alegría desbordada y
contagiosa, el brillo y la vistosidad de
los disfraces y las carrozas, han hecho
que sea una Fiesta declarada de Interés
Turístico Autonómico.
Carnaval
Quarante jours avant le début du
Carême, Vinaròs célèbre le Carnaval,
la fête la plus vivant de l’année. Plus
de 3.000 personnes et 30 comparses,
accompagnées par le roi Carnestoltes,
défilent samedi et dimanche, dans
des
costumes
spectaculaires
et
flamboyants. En plus de la fantaisie, la
couleur et la musique, il y a d’autres
événements pour tous les publics et
tous les âges pendant la semaine de
fête, parmi lesquels on trouve la bataille
de la farine ou la nuit du pyjama.
L’allégresse débordante et contagieuse,
la luminosité et l’éclat des costumes et
des chars, ont fait que cette fête soit
d’Intérêt Touristique Autonomique.
Carnival
Vinaròs holds its Carnival, the most
colourful festival of the year, forty days
before the start of Lent. It is a popular
event involving the participation
of anything up to 3,000 people, in
addition to the 30-plus Krewes which,
accompanied by King Carnestoltes,
dress up in dramatic and flamboyant
costumes for the Saturday and Sunday
parades. In addition to the parades,
there is a succession of fantasy, colour
and music in all the events organised
for all different ages during Carnival
week, including a flour battle and the
pyjama night. The overflowing and
contagious joy, the sparkle and show
of the costumes and parade floats,
have led this Festival to be declared a
Regional Tourist Interest.

Semana Santa
Se inicia la Semana Santa con la tradicional Trobada de
Bombos i Tambors en el que participan bandas de diversas
ciudades de la provincia de Castellón, Tarragona y Teruel.
Las procesiones al anochecer y actos religiosos se centran
principalmente en los días de Jueves y Viernes Santo. Pasos
e imágenes religiosas de gran valor artístico salen de iglesias
y capillas. La primera de las procesiones es el Miércoles santo
a las cinco de la madrugada, conocida como la Processó de
la Matinada: un acto litúrgico, recuperado hace unos años,
que se remonta a una tradición secular. Jueves y Viernes
santo al atardecer, las calles del centro histórico de Vinaròs
se abarrotan para contemplar las solemnes procesiones de
las cofradías y sus pasos. La última de las procesiones es
la Procesión del Encuentro el domingo de Pascua. Durante
estas celebraciones también hay programados conciertos y
exposiciones, que convierten estas fiestas religiosas también
en actos culturales y festivos. Fiesta declarada de Interés Turístico Autonómico.

SEMAINE DE PÂQUES
On commence la traditionnelle semaine de Pâques avec la
traditionnelle Trobada de Bombos i Tambors où l’on voit des fanfares
de différentes villes de la province de Castellón, de Tarragone et
de Teruel. Les processions au crépuscule et les actes religieux ont
lieu principalement le jeudi et le vendredi. Les chars et les images
religieuses qui ont une grande valeur artistique sortent des églises
et des chapelles. La première procession a lieu le Mercredi Saint à
cinq heures du matin, connue sous le nom Processó de la Matinada:
un acte liturgique, récupéré il y a quelques années, qui provient
d’une vieille tradition. Jeudi et Vendredi Saint à al tombée du jour,
les rues du centre historique de Vinaròs sont remplies de monde afin
de contempler les processions solennelles des confréries et leurs
chars. La dernière procession est celle de la Procession de la Réunion
du dimanche de Pâques. Pendant les jours de fête il y a aussi des
concerts et des expositions, qui transforment également ces fêtes
religieuses en un événement culturel et festif.

Holy Week
Holy Week begins with the traditional Encounter of Gongs and
Drums involving the participation of bands from different cities and
towns across Castellón, Tarragona and Teruel. The dusk processions
and religious events take place mainly on Thursday and Friday.
‘Passos’, i.e., elaborate parade floats made for religious processions,
and religious images with an important artistic value emerge from
the churches and chapels. The first procession takes place on Ash
Wednesday at five in the morning and is known as the Processó de la
Matinada: it is a liturgical act, recovered a few years ago, which dates
back to a secular tradition. Thursday and Friday evening, the streets
of the historic centre of Vinaròs fill up with people coming to take in
the solemn processions of the brotherhoods and their floats. The last
procession is that of the Resurrection which takes place on Easter
Sunday. During Easter time, there are also concerts and exhibitions
that make these religious festivals a cultural and festive event.

La Virgen del Carme
Durante la temporada estival se suceden diferentes celebraciones,
como la tradicional procesión marinera que tiene lugar el 16 de
julio, día en el que los marineros honran a su patrona, la Virgen del
Carmen. Todas las barcas de la flota pesquera se engalanan para
la ocasión.

Pendant l’été, il y a toute sorte de célébrations diverses parmi
lesquelles on trouve la traditionnelle procession marinière qui a
lieu le 16 Juillet, le jour où les marins rendent hommage à leur
patronne, la Virgen del Carmen. Tous les bateaux de pêche sont
décorés pour l’occasion.

Different festivities are held during summer, among which you can
find the traditional sailors’ procession that takes place on the 16
July, the day sailors pay homage to their patron saint, the Virgin
of Carmen. All the fishing boats are decorated for the occasion.

marítimo. Este evento gastronómico es uno de los de mayor tradición en la Comunidad
Valenciana ya que viene celebrándose de manera ininterrumpida desde el año 1963,
lo cual denota la importancia que Vinaròs siempre le ha
dado al turismo y a uno de sus productos turísticos más emblemáticos y de mayor
calidad, el langostino de Vinaròs.
FÊTE DE LA CREVETTE
Au mois d’août on célèbre la Fête de la Crevette, avec des dégustations de crevettes
tout au long de la promenade du bord de mer. Cet événement gastronomique est
l’un des plus traditionnel de la Communauté Valencienne parce qu’on le célèbre
chaque année depuis 1963, ce qui prouve l’importance que Vinaròs a toujours donné
au tourisme et à l’un de ses produits gastronomiques les plus emblématiques et de
plus de qualité, la crevette de Vinaròs.
King Prawn Festival
When August arrives, it is time to hold the King Prawn Festival, with samplings beside
the promenade. This gastronomic event is one of the longest-standing traditions in
the Valencian Community, having been held every year since 1963, speaking to the
importance Vinaròs has always awarded tourism and one of its most emblematic and
highest-quality tourist products, the Vinaròs king prawn.

Como preludio al otoño, el 29 de septiembre, se
conmemora el otorgamiento de la Carta Puebla
a la Ciudad de Vinaròs. El año 1241 el alcalde
de Peñíscola D. Gil de Atrocillo, en nombre del
rey Jaume I, otorga la Carta Puebla a Grinyó
de Ballester para que se estableciera en
aquella alquería. Entorno al 29 de septiembre,
tienen lugar múltiples actividades culturales
como conciertos, exposiciones, teatro y visitas
guiadas, entre otras.
CHARTE DE REPEUPLEMENT
Avant le début de l’automne, le 29 Septembre,
a lieu une commémoration de la charte de
repeuplement de la ville de Vinaròs. En 1241, le
maire de Peñíscola D. Gil de Atrocillo, au nom du
Roi Jaume I, donna la Charte de repeuplement
à Grinyó de Ballester afin qu’il puisse s’établir
dans cette ferme. Vers le 29 Septembre, de
nombreuses activités culturelles se déroulent:
concerts, expositions, théâtre et visites guidées,
entre autres.
Town Charter
As a prelude to autumn, the awarding of
the Town Charter to the City of Vinaròs is
commemorated every 29 September. In 1241,
the mayor of Peñíscola, Don Gil de Atrocillo, on
behalf of King Jaume I, gave the town charter
to Grinyó de Ballester to establish a farmstead
in the area. Many cultural activities take place
around 29 September, such as concerts,
exhibitions, theatre and tours, among others.

La gastronomía es uno de los grandes

Gastronomy is one of the main attractions
