coming year throughout the summer. New teachers and returning teachers have been
meeting as a group and planning for the year since August 4th and August 11th respectively.

This has been an exciting summer for CDCPS-Gateway and CDCPS-Webster as they
continue to grow and expand to serve grades K1 to 3rd grade.
CDCPS-R. Kingman Webster has now grown into two schools. The CDCPS-R. Kingman
Webster Early Learning Center (grades K1, K2, and 1st grade) has moved from 50 Pleasant
Street to 7 Ballard Way with Pat Teichman as Senior Head of School. The CDCPS-R.
Kingman Webster Lower School (grades 2-3) will remain at 50 Pleasant Street. At the
writing of this letter, we were interviewing for a Head of School. Until a head of school is in
place, I will be the acting Head of School for the CDCPS-R. Kingman Webster Lower School.
CDCPS-Gateway has also grown into two schools. The CDCPS-Gateway Early Learning
Center (grades K1, K2, and 1) remains at 9 Ballard Way under the leadership of Ms. Tanya
Cloyd. The CDCPS-Gateway Lower School has moved to 50 Pleasant Street and is led by its
founding Head of School, Ms. King.
Community Day Arlington Elementary School, also managed by The Community Group,
continues to make great strides in academic achievement. Mr. Brent Merton is now in his
second year as Principal.
CDCPS-Prospect has expanded and added three new classrooms. The Lower School campus
has been renovated and looks spectacular as it welcomes returning students. Ms. Chance is
in her second year as Principal for CDCPS-Prospect.
We invite all parents to get involved in the school. Please join our parent groups, attend
events, and be active in school life — your involvement is so important! We look forward to
our new students becoming part of the CDCPS family and to seeing all of you at gatherings
throughout the year.

Este ha sido un verano emocionante para CDCPS-Gateway y CDCPS-Webster a medida que
continúan creciendo y expandiéndose a servir grados K1 a 3er.
CDCPS-R. Kingman Webster ahora se ha convertido en dos escuelas. CDCPS-R. Kingman
Webster Centro de Aprendizaje Temprano (grados K1, K2, y 1er grado) se ha mudado

Community Day Schools
Welcome 2014-15 Teaching
Fellows
After many weeks of paper screening well
over two hundred applicants, interviewing
dozens of candidates and observing at
least two dozen demonstration lessons,
CDCPS is very proud to welcome our
newest Corps of Teaching Fellows. After
completing a rigorous interview process,
our fellows are assigned to the different
charter schools and our community
school based on the needs of the school
and matching talents. During the next
school year they will play a very
important part in the education of our
young children either by assuming the
role of a co-teacher or by working as an
Intervention Specialist.
They are a talented group with rich and
varied experience; their commitment to
children is exceptional. These high energy
Fellows have participated in extensive
professional development in August and
will work closely with experienced
teachers on a daily basis. They will also
receive additional trainings throughout
the year.

Are you looking for some free, fun events
in September? Essex County's cultural,
historic and natural sites are holding 150+
free events during Trails & Sails: Two
Weekends of Walks and Water,
September 19-21 & September 2628, 2014. A variety of guided tours, open
house visits, hikes, walks, paddles,
volunteer opportunities, and more will be
offered. There’s something for everyone,
and all events are located within the 34
cities and towns of Essex County,
including Lawrence. For more

Charter Public Schools are offering Music
and Movement, a special class, to our
young learners. This unique class
combines physical education
requirements with learning in music. Our
music teacher and the CDCPS physical
education teacher plan the curriculum
together to ensure the movement units
meet state physical education
requirements. Students in K1 will take
Music and Movement classes, while

Después de muchas semanas de trabajo
en repasando más de doscientos
candidatos, entrevistando a decenas de
candidatos y observando al menos dos
docena de lecciones de demostración,
CDCPS está muy orgulloso de dar la

Recent Happenings
Special Education
Welcome to the start of the 2014-2015
school year! Our staff had a very busy
summer, transitioning our second and
(now) third grades over to our new
location at 50 Pleasant Street, and running
a very successful summer institute
program for 40 students. Our summer
students enjoyed practicing their reading
and math skills with beach and camping
themed units (ask them about the beach
sand pudding they concocted in order to
practice units of measurement)! Our first
day of school ran very smoothly. Our
second and third grade students are ready
for both the challenges and privileges that
come with becoming Lower Schoolers.
We look forward to the progress we
know they will make under the tutelage
of our very talented staff (both new and
returning), and most of all look forward
to showing our stuff on the 2015 spring
MCAS!

Tanya Cloyd, Head of School, ELC
Ms. Cloyd joins CDCPS-Gateway with a
bachelor’s in early childhood education and a
master of elementary education specializing in
English language learning. She comes to us
with experience in teaching first grade at
several schools.
Abby King, Head of School,
Lower School
Ms. King joined CDCPS-Prospect in 2008 after
teaching in Roxbury Crossing, MA, and New
Orleans, LA. She attended Skidmore College
in New York and holds master’s degrees from
Xavier University in New Orleans and
Harvard in Cambridge.
Operations Manager
Julielys Ortiz Ms. Ortiz attended Middlesex Community
College in Lowell, MA and joins us with
experience in customer service. She is
proficient in both English and Spanish.
Kristina Torres Boucher
Ms. Torres Boucher comes to us with
experience from the Child Care Circuit. She is
a graduate of Brigham Young University and is
pursuing a master’s program in public policy

Rebecca Morse, Director of Special
Education
Ms. Morse holds master’s degrees in special
education and school counseling, both from
Fitchburg State University. She taught at St.
Ann’s Home in Methuen before joining the
CDCPS Prospect faculty in 2005.
Cheryl Foley,
Learning Specialist/Special Education
Ms. Foley holds a master of science in
Education from Simmons College. Her
experience includes serving as a special
education teacher in the Freetown-Lakeville
Regional School System.
Kate O’Grady, Speech Therapist
Ms. O’Grady holds a bachelor of science in
communication disorders from University of
Massachusetts Amherst and a master of
science in speech-language pathology from
Worcester State College. Her experience
before joining our school includes providing
child care for children in infancy through
school age and working with adults in the
clinical setting.
Keriann Wilmot, Occupational
Therapist
Ms. Wilmot is a licensed occupational
therapist with over 10 years experience. She
earned her degree from Quinnipiac College
and has worked in a wide variety of settings.

Kindergarten 1 (K1-4 year olds)
Lori Hallowell
Ms. Hallowell comes to us with an associate of
arts dance degree from Dean College, where
she completed classes in creative movement
for young children and educational psychology.
Ms. Hallowell is currently pursuing a bachelor
of science in psychology with a minor in
education at Springfield College.
Courtney Bartlett
Ms. Bartlett joins us this year with experience
working with children in Arlington, Lexington,
Newton, and Jamaica Plain. She holds a
bachelor’s degree in communication studies
from Suffolk University and a master’s degree
in elementary education from Simmons
College.
Kimberly Foye
Ms. Foye joined CDCPS-Gateway with a
master’s degree in elementary education from
Boston University. Ms. Foye previously
worked as a Kindergarten teacher at
Community Day Learning’s Early Learning
Center, an affiliate program.
Maria Rivera-Dhungana
Ms. Rivera-Dhungana joined our school last

Charter Public Schools está ofreciendo
Música y Movimiento, una clase especial, a

¡Esperamos con interés el progreso
que sabemos que harán bajo la tutela
de nuestro talentoso personal (tanto
nuevos como de vuelta), y sobre todo
ganas de mostrar nuestras cosas en la
primavera con el examen MCAS 2015!

Tanya Cloyd, Directora, ELC
La Sra. Cloyd se une a CDCPS-Gateway con
una licenciatura en educación de la primera
infancia y una maestría en educación primaria

Rachel Winward
Ms. Winward comes to CDCPS-Gateway with
a bachelor’s degree in elementary education
and general special education from Southern
New Hampshire University. Before joining us,
Ms. Winward was a substitute teacher for
preK-4 at Methuen Public Schools.
Kerianne Hale
Ms. Hale studied at Keene State College and
was a second grade student teacher at
Hinsdale Elementary School prior to joining
us. There, she had the opportunity to teach
every subject area and had her own literacy

Susan Kosmicki
Ms. Kosmicki holds a BS in education and a BA
in psychology from Salem State University.
Before joining CDCPS, she taught in
Swampscott for three years.
Nicole Riccio
Ms. Riccio is a graduate of Merrimack College
with a degree in Human Development. She has
also spent time volunteering as a teacher’s
aide in Kindergarten-grade 8 classrooms in
Haverhill, MA and Plaistow, NH.
Grade 1
Alexandra Stinsman
Ms. Stinsman holds a bachelor of arts degree
in psychology from The College of New Jersey
and a master of science degree in elementary
education from the University of Pennsylvania.
For the past 4 years she has worked as a
kindergarten teacher at a charter school in
West Philadelphia.
Jessica Racioppi
Ms. Racioppi is a TCG Fellow and comes to us
from Tucson, Arizona where she received
her bachelor of arts in elementary education
from University of Arizona. Ms. Racioppi joins
CDCPS-Gateway with ample experience
working with first graders in the Tucson area.
Chelsea Scholz
Ms. Scholz joins us after completing her
MATCH Teacher Residency Program at
Sposato Graduate School of Education. Prior
to joining us she has worked as a student
teacher and MATCH teacher resident in
Boston, MA, where she taught English, literacy,
and math.
Evelyn Giordano
Ms. Giordano holds a BA in psychology from
Quinnipiac University and an MA in
elementary education from Lesley University.
Before joining us, she taught in Cambridge for
two years.
Grade 2
Cindy Chao
Ms. Chao received her master of education
from Cambridge College, as well as her
bachelor of arts in accounting and finance from
Suffolk University. Her experience includes
working as math teacher to 2nd and 5th grade
students at the Russian School of Math in
Lexington, MA and as a substitute teacher in
several public schools.
Christina Correa
Ms. Correa holds a BA in Latin American
Studies and Spanish from Washington
University. Prior to joining us, she completed
the Match Teacher Residency Program at
Match Community Day in Boston.
Victoria Azzolino
Ms. Azzolino studied at Framingham State
College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree
in early childhood education. She has
experience in the Acton and Maynard school
districts, both as a teacher and a tutor.
Kate Pappas
Ms. Pappas graduated from Pace University
with a master’s degree in elementary
education. Prior to joining our school, Ms.
Pappas worked at a charter school in NYC
and taught in NYC through the Teach for
America program.
Grade 3
Molly Sardella
Ms. Sardella joins CDCPS-Gateway with a
master of arts in teaching elementary
education from Quinnipiac College and a
bachelor’s in psychology from Northeastern
University. She has worked as a SPED
Professional Aide in Belmont, MA and Grade 3
Teacher in Malden, MA.
Jessica Martzall
Ms. Martzall has graduated from Bryn Mawr
College with a bachelor’s in Spanish language
with a minor in education. Prior to joining us,
she worked in the MATCH Teacher Residency
Program in Boston and is currently pursuing a
master’s in effective teaching.
Eleanor Chandler
Ms. Chandler earned an undergraduate degree
in psychology from the University of California
- Santa Cruz. Prior to joining us, she served
for a year at MATCH Community Day
Charter Public School.
Karen Kolman
Ms. Kolman came to us with an undergraduate
degree in journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill.
Her experience includes a year of service at
MATCH Community Day Charter Public
School.

Brenna McGoff
Ms. McGoff joins us after having worked as a
first grade student teacher in Flagstaff, AZ. She
also worked as an assistant camp director for
the Girl Scouts of Eastern Mass in Bradford,
NH. She holds a bachelor of science in
elementary education from Northern Arizona
University, Flagstaff with a minor in early
childhood education.
Specialists
Margaret Bowlby, Interventionist
Ms. Bowlby comes to us with a master of
education in moderate special needs and a
bachelor’s in elementary education and
Spanish from Boston College. She has worked
as a behavior therapist at Newton Public
Schools and a resident assistant at Boston
College.
Ashley MacDougal, Learning/Special
Education Specialist, ELC
Ms. MacDougal holds an undergraduate
degree in human development and psychology
from Wheelock College and just completed a
master’s degree in elementary and special
education from Wheelock College. She is a
Massachusetts native and is proficient in
American Sign Language.
Alicia Fessenden, Special Education
Ms. Fessenden holds a bachelor’s degree in
geography from McGill University in Montreal
and a master’s degree in museum education
from Bank Street College of Education. Before
joining our school in its first year, she taught a
range of subjects in New York and
Massachusetts.
Sara Delaney, Psychologist
Ms. Delaney returns to us after completing a
school psychology internship with CDCPS in
Lawrence, MA. She has completed a master of
arts at Tufts University and is a Teach for
America alumnus.
Derid Peguero
Mr. Peguero joins us with a bachelor of arts in
music with a minor in Spanish from Atlantic
Union College. He has worked as a music
instructor at Worcester Music Academy and
preschool teacher at Kinder Care Learning
Center.
Megan Pomerleau, Paraprofessional
Ms. Pomerleau joins CDCPS-Gateway after
working as a paraprofessional in the Salem
School District in Salem, NH. She graduated
from Salem High School.

Anthony Pepicelli, K-1, Early Learning
Center
Mr. Pepicelli joins us this year with a bachelor
of arts in sociology with a minor in special
education from Bridgewater State. Previously,
Anthony worked at Qualters Middle School in
Mansfield, MA. He worked as a special
education specialist, monitoring students’
progress and worked with students with
severe disabilities and their families.
Brandon Balser, 2-3, Early Learning
Center
Mr. Balser earned a bachelor's degree from
Florida Southern University in physical
education. A recent transplant from Florida,
Mr. Balser begins his first year with us with
experience in physical education.
Margaret McGrath, Music
Ms. McGrath joins our school for her second
year as music teacher. She received a
bachelor’s degree in music education from
Boston University. Before teaching Music at
CDAES, she taught for two years in Houston,
Texas, and for two years at Community Day
Charter Public School.
Travis Maguire, Music
Mr. Maguire joins CDAES this fall as a music
teacher. He received a bachelor’s degree in
music studies and a masters in music
education from UMASS Lowell. Prior to
joining us, Travis taught in Jamaica Plain at JP
Kids Arts; a program for students ranging in K
-Grade 5. The classes included ukulele, world
drumming and singing.
Bus Monitors
Jeimy Ciriaco
Ms. Ciriaco has been working for the agency
since 2012. She received a medical assistant
certificate from Northern Essex Community
College. She joins us this year as a lunch
assistant as well as a bus monitor for both
Gateway and Webster schools.
Yarilis Rivera DePeña
Ms. Rivera DePeña returns this year as a bus
monitor and lunch assistant. She received a
degree in business administration from
Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago in the
Dominican Republic.
Grisolides Espinal
Ms. Espinal joins us this year as a bus monitor.
She brings 5 years of experience working in
the food service industry before joining us as
bus monitor in 2012.
Maintenance
Elie Kazzi
Mr. Kazzi joined us our first year as a
custodian and has been keeping our facilities in
great condition. He brings experience working
in general maintenance at an investment
company in Chelsea and as a custodian at the
Lawrence Public Library.
Jeanie DiZazzo, Interventionist
Ms. DiZazzo holds a bachelor’s degree in
English and special education from Granite
State College. Recently, she was teaching
Kindergarten at the Create and Discover
Learning Center in NH.
Margarita Mendez, Paraprofessional
Ms. Mendez joins us this year with a range of
experience, including serving as a direct
support professional assisting patients with
special needs and serving as a shift leader in
the food service industry. She is bilingual in
English and Spanish.
Johanna Salas, Paraprofessional
Ms. Salas joined us as a paraprofessional
during her first year and works primarily with
the first grade. She brings experience working
with school aged children in our affiliate
program, Community Day Learning’s Latchkey
Enrichment Program.
Erica Spada, Spanish Teacher
Ms. Spada holds a bachelor’s degree in
modern languages/Spanish from University of
Massachusetts, Lowell. Her experience
includes both teaching and tutoring students in
Spanish.
