“El confesor es, él mismo, un pecador, un hombre siempre necesitado de perdón” y debe tener siempre una actitud de “fe humilde y generosa, teniendo como único deseo que todo fiel pueda experimentar el amor del Padre”.
El Pontífice también explicó que el fiel arrepentido, después de recibir la absolución del sacerdote, “tiene la certeza, por fe, de que sus
pecados no existen más, han sido borrados por la divina misericordia”.

Así, “cada absolución es, de cierta manera, un jubileo del corazón, que alegra no solo al fiel y a la Iglesia, sino sobre todo a Dios mismo”.
De nuevo, el Papa hizo hincapié en la importancia de que el sacerdote sea “un canal de alegría” y de que el fiel, después de haber recibido
el perdón, no se sienta más oprimido por las culpas, y pueda mostrar la obra de Dios que lo ha liberado”.
Francisco denunció que la actualidad está “marcada por el individualismo” y es necesario estar junto a las personas. “Comporta la obligación todavía mayor de coherencia evangélica y de benevolencia paterna”, dijo.
“La celebración de este Sacramento requiere en efecto una adecuada y actualizada preparación para que cuantos se acerquen puedan tocar
con la mano la grandeza de la misericordia, fuente de verdadera paz interior”.
Francisco señaló que “la misericordia, antes que ser una actitud o una virtud humana, es la elección definitiva de Dios a favor de todo ser
humano para su eterna salvación”. Se trata de “una elección sellada con la sangre del Hijo de Dios”.
El Santo Padre recordó que “la posibilidad del perdón está de verdad abierta a todos, está abierta de par en par, como la más grande de las
puertas santas”, para que coincida con el corazón mismo del Padre, que ama y atiende a todos sus hijos, de modo particular a aquellos que
se han equivocado y que se han alejado”.
La misericordia puede llegar de diferentes formas, según el Papa. “A través de la apertura de una conciencia sincera; por medio de la lectura
de la Palabra de Dios que convierte el corazón; mediante un encuentro con una hermana o un hermano misericordioso; en las experiencias de
la vida que hablan de heridas, de pecado, de perdón y de misericordia”.
A su vez, Francisco explicó que gracias a Jesús se puede pasar de la esperanza a la certeza de sentirse perdonado y dio algunos consejos sobre la actitud que debe tener un sacerdote cuando confiesa.
“Debemos siempre recordar que somos instrumentos de la misericordia de Dios para ellos, entonces, estemos atentos a no poner obstáculo a
este donde de salvación”.

1994 by St. John Paul II to defend human life from the perspective of Christian morals and Catholic teaching.

“By displaying a genuine compassion and the other virtues, you will be precious witnesses of the mercy of the God of life,”
he said.
“Virtue is the most authentic expression of the good that man, with God's help, is able to achieve…It is not merely a habit,
but the constantly renewed decision to choose good.”
It's also “the highest expression of human freedom” and “the best that the human heart offers,” the Pope said.
“When the heart drifts away from the good and the truth contained in the Word of God, it runs many risks. It is without direction and risks mistaking good for bad and bad for good,” he continued. “Those who embark on this slippery slope fall into
the trap of moral error and are oppressed by growing existential anguish.”
Pope Francis said that contemporary culture still has the principles to affirm that man is to be protected. However, this value is often threatened by “moral uncertainties that do not allow life to be defended in an effective way.”
“Not infrequently it can happen that 'splendid vices' are disguised under the mask of virtue,” he said. He stressed the necessity to cultivate virtues through continual discernment. Virtues must be rooted in God, the source of all virtue.
“The good that man does is not the result of calculations or strategies, or even the product of genetic programming or social conditioning. It is rather the fruit of a well-disposed heart and of the free choice that tends to true goodness.”
