Psalm 23:1 The Stewardship of Prayer Living in Community, We Pray for Forgiveness In just two weeks, we will distribute special brochures as part of the Stewardship of Prayer phase of our Total Stewardship program. At that time, you and other parishioners will have the opportunity to commit to pray in any of a variety of ways, choosing those that best represent you and your prayer intentions. God is gracious to listen as we pray, and, with a sense of shared engagement, we ask God to preserve our relationship with him and strengthen our relationships with others. We pray for understanding, and we ask for forgiveness. Providing us a model prayer (in more ways than one), Christ answered his disciples’ request for understanding regarding the contents of our prayers. Rather than a blanket statement—“Tell the Father what you want”—the Son was quite specific, very helpful and purposefully instructive. He invited them— and by extension, all of us—to pray for our daily needs, then he spoke of relationships: “and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” As many wise Catholic teachers have taught us, a “debt” is a metaphor for many things, including our sins and the wrongs we’ve committed involving other people. As we pray, we take every opportunity to confess our sins and express an ongoing desire to keep “short accounts.” We forgive others, knowing God forgives us. CHARITY If you truly want to help the soul of your neighbor, you should approach God first with all your heart. Ask him simply to fill you with charity, the greatest of all virtues; with it you can accomplish what you desire. —St. Vincent Ferrer Living Stewardship Now Join or donate to an organization that works for peace and justice. Jesús vino a cambiar nuestra perspectiva. Derechos de autor © 2013, World Library Publications. Todos los derechos reservados.
