EIGHTH GRADE TEAM NEWS October 17, 2016 1 st Quarter Important Dates and Announcements Picture Retake Day is Wednesday, October 19, 2016 In order to be eligible for picture retakes, the following must be true: You are a new student to SSA+S since September 14, 2016. You Purchased pictures from the first picture day, and were not satisfied with the picture. If this is the case, you must bring back your old picture packet to give to the photographer. You have a completed a picture order form to purchase your new pictures from Picture Retake Day. If you have any questions, please contact me. Homework will consist of finishing TKAM chapter questions that will be started in class. Mr. Miller (Math)- Pre-Algebra: Due Wednesday: Pages 114-115: 6-13 *. Due Friday: Pages 123-124: 7-16, 22, 24 * * = available online at bigideasmath.com. There is a Chapter 3 Quiz on Tuesday, October 25th. Pre-AICE Math 2 (Geometry Honors): Due Wednesday: Pages 142-144: 4, 7, 8, 26-28, 34, Pages 152-153: 3, 4, 16-23. Due Friday: Page 160: 3, 4, 6-10, 14, 16-18 *. * = available online at bigideasmath.com. There is a Chapter 3 Quiz this Tuesday Mr. Matthews (Math)- Pre-AICE: Due Wednesday: Page 158 – 7-15, 17-21. Chapter 4 Quiz Friday. Pre-Algebra: Due Monday: Page 123 - 7-14, 22-24. Chapter 3 Test Friday Ms. Dunlap and Mr. Harrell (Reading Lab)- Students will be completing their second SRI tests this week. Additionally students will need to complete a foldable using the following words and complete a weekly reading journal. *Vocabulary Academic terms: 1. modify (v.), 2. explain (v.), 3. support (v.), 4. predict (v.),5. reflect (v.), Bonus: infer (v.) Ms. Lopes (Spanish 1)- This week students will be completing the Unit 3 Test on Monday, October 17th. We will also be discussing the importance of bilingualism in the work force and sharing our thoughts on the benefits of knowing different languages as professionals. Students will also answer questions related to a video surrounding this topic. Students will be working on making comparisons in Spanish. Mr. Bailey and Mr. Gehndyu (Science)- Students should be conducting their Science Fair Experiments making sure to collect data in data tables. We will work on constructing electronic data tables and begin graphing preliminary data in class this week. Also there will be a Quiz covering Newton's Laws of Motion on 10/20. Mr. Sutliff (History & Spanish)- US History (Advanced & Standard): Test – Early English Colonies (Chapter 3 in America: History of Our Nation). This test was originally scheduled for Monday October 10, 2016 but was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew and the rescheduled field trip to MOSI on Tuesday (10/11/16). 5 Power Point presentations and the unit study guide are all available on Blackboard. Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives: Quiz – Wednesday October 19, 2016 – this quiz will include concepts, ideas and vocabulary from There Is Life After College, information about business cycles and different forms of unemployment, and student reflections on the entire unit regarding College and Career Readiness. Español I para Nativos: Prueba – martes el 18 de octubre sobre reglas de acentuación, conjugaciones de verbos en los siguientes tiempos: presente; el pretérito (perfecto); el (pretérito) imperfecto; el future; y el subjuntivo (del presente), y análisis de textos sobre la historia de América Latina y sus conexiones con España. 2017-2018 Application Window August 1st – December 1st, 2016 Do you have a younger sibling going into 5th grade in August 2016? Friends, family, and / or neighbors who have a student going into the 5thgrade in August 2016? Get the word out!!! Online applications are submitted through our website at www.ssas.org , beginning August 1st, 2016 through December 1st, 2016, and found on our Registration page. An emailed confirmation of receipt, will be sent, when the application has been received, and submitted successfully. After December 1st, 2016, a lottery will be conducted to fill all 2017-2018 vacancies, and to create the order of the waiting lists. Results of the lottery will be mailed home, on or before the second week of January 2017. With a completed application on file, Siblings (brothers / sisters) of currently attending students do not participate in the lottery, and are considered for enrollment.
