Stem changing –IR verbs (e to ie, e to i, and o to u)
in the present tense are affected in the
ÉL and ELLOS FORMS. The verbs take a new vowel in
the ÉL and ELLOS FORMS.
Some verbs are just irregular.

But, there are two ways to learn them. Does that help?
1.
Know that IR & SER have the same preterit forms.
For the others, listed below, you need to memorize the new STEM and the
attach the correct endings according to the preterit chart.
