“Message from our Pastor”
What does the Word say?
Generosity is the fruit of the faith in God, capable or restoring the life of mankind (first reading); This faith is to live
with the capability to put life in God, that in his goodness, makes praise grow within us (Psalm); This faith in God is
revealed of the Son for all mankind (second reading); and finally, is also the guaranteed hope that “God visits his people” (gospel).
A possible Actualization of the Word
It’s to say, coming from faith, these readings raise a trusting attitude before God, capable of restoring the situation of
death, we live in a culture that is based not so much in the seeking of life for all, especially the more needed of them,
but to the one of doesn’t care that those that count, disappear so that the few that already “live well”, “live better” still.
Life is a right of all, and a decent one, too. Will we know if God has visited his people when so many truncated lives
regenerate or resuscitate?
What to say of the miracles in our culture? It’s not strange to life outside of the reality in technology, virtual reality is
the term, creating the sensation to be able to log on to a reality “almost miraculous”.
Today we cannot…but who knows tomorrow. Some have even frozen their bodies for the day that science has the
possibility to return them to life. But “if that comes”, it will also be for a few; the monopolies of who dominates the
market will make sure of that. And we continue in Science fiction. But faith assures us that Life, with a capital, the one
that comes from God, the one that is participation in the resurrection fo Jesus Christ, is guaranteed by the gift of the
Spirit, and it’s for all, and not for only a select few beforehand. And we arrive to this faith without the need of science
fiction.
What does the Word tell me?
Does this mean we have to go through life resuscitating, or returning life to the dead? Let’s not forget the recent Gospel finishes by saying “A great prophet has emerged within us. God has visited his people?”. Who remains restored is
not the son of the widow, when the widow herself, without her son, loses her dignity in the culture where the male
gave dignity to the woman. We don’t have to go along so may “resuscitating the dead” when looking, accompanied,
restoring people that, in a dead culture based on a savage market, wants to relegate, set aside, exclude the most inhumane oblivion.. That is why Pope Francis invites us to go to the peripheries.
What is my response to the Word?
We need to give a personal response, and also discover it in our community. How do we make ourselves present to
one another, to discover that God also visits us today?
We await you this Sunday to celebrate together the sacrament of life for all, the Bread of eternal Life.

Pool safety is about more than swimming
Swimming is a fun way to have some fun and beat the heat during
the summer. Parents should teach their children about swimming
safety, including how to identify and handle uncomfortable situations. Although you may be watching closely to make sure your kids
are safe in the water, don’t forget about when they’re walking
around, sitting out by the pool, using the restrooms or out of sight.
Teach your children what to do when they feel uncomfortable at the
pool, and let them know it is okay to walk away and find a parent or
trusted adult at any time. For more information and a copy of the

St. Patrick’s Parish Scripture Study
You are invited to attend a Lectionary-based Sunday readings class, facilitated by Ms. Nancy Sullivan and Ms. Ligia
Lesko.
The Scripture study begins Thursday May 26 and will be
held weekly through June 30 (6weeks), from 7pm to
8:30pm.
This is a bible study geared towards understanding each
week’s scripture. The primary purpose of this study is to
give background and context to the gospel readings heard
at Sunday liturgy.
Whether you are new to bible study or have done bible
study in the past, you are sure to enjoy.

"Mensaje de nuestro Párroco"
¿Qué dice la Palabra?
La generosidad es fruto de la confianza-fe en Dios, capaz de restaurar la vida del ser humano (primera lectura); Esta confianza-fe es vivir con la capacidad de poner la vida en Dios que, en su bondad, hace nacer en nosotros la alabanza
(salmo); Esta confianza-fe en Dios es revelación del Hijo para todos los hombres (segunda lectura); Y finalmente es también la garantía-esperanza de que “Dios visita a su pueblo” (evangelio).
Una posible actualización de la Palabra
Si bien, desde la fe, estas lecturas suscitan en nosotros una actitud confiada ante Dios, capaz de restaurar la misma situación de muerte, vivimos en una cultura que se basa no tanto en la búsqueda de vida para todos, especialmente los más
necesitados de ella, sino a la que no le importa que, los que no cuentan, desaparezcan para que los pocos, que ya “viven
bien”, “vivan mejor” todavía. La vida es un derecho de todos, y la vida digna también. ¿Nos daremos cuenta que Dios ha
visitado a su pueblo cuando muchas vidas truncadas se regeneren o resuciten?
¿Qué decir de los milagros en nuestra cultura? No es extraño vivir fuera de la realidad en la tecnología, realidad virtual se
le llama, creando la sensación de poder acceder a una realidad “casi milagrosa”. Hoy no podemos… pero quien sabe mañana. Hasta algunos han congelado sus cuerpos para el día en que la ciencia tenga la posibilidad de devolverles la vida.
Pero “si eso llega”, será también para unos pocos; los monopolios de quien domina el mercado se encargará de ello. Y
seguimos en la ciencia-ficción. Pero la fe nos asegura que la Vida, con mayúscula, la que viene de Dios, la que es participación en la resurrección de Jesucristo, está garantizada por el don del Espíritu, y es para todos, y no para unos pocos
seleccionados de antemano. Y aquí llegamos a la fe sin necesitar la ciencia-ficción.
¿Qué me dice la palabra?
¿Significa eso que tenemos que ir por la vida resucitando, o devolviendo la vida a los muertos? No olvidemos que el
evangelio acaba diciendo que “Un gran profeta ha surgido entre nosotros. Dios ha visitado a su pueblo”. Quien queda
restaurado no es tanto el hijo de la viuda, cuanto la viuda misma, que sin hijo pierde su dignidad en la cultura donde el
varón daba la dignidad a la mujer. No tenemos que ir tanto “resucitando muertos” cuanto buscando, acompañando, restaurando, a las personas que una cultura de muerte basada en el mercado salvaje, quiere relegar, apartar, excluir al más
inhumano olvido… Por eso el Papa Francisco nos invita a ir a las periferias.
¿Cuál es mi respuesta a la Palabra?
Hay que dar una respuesta personal, y también descubrirla en nuestra comunidad. ¿Cómo nos hacemos presentes los
unos a los otros, para descubrir que Dios también nos visita hoy?
Te esperamos este domingo para celebrar juntos el sacramento de la vida para todos, el del Pan de Vida eterna.

Colección EspecialFondo de Jubilación Para Los Sacerdotes
La próxima semana se pedirá a todas las parroquias a través de
la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles para dar generosamente para
apoyar el Fondo de Jubilación para Sacerdotes. En cada misa el
11 de junio y 12, habrá una segunda colecta en beneficio de este
importante programa.
En este tiempo, el fondo ofrece apoyo a más de 100 sacerdotes
que se han jubilado. Durante los próximos diez años, se espera
que el número aumente significativamente. Con una compensación mínima, y en muchos casos sin pensión, estos sacerdotes se
retiran sin nada para mantenerse. Sus contribuciones pueden
cambiar eso.
El Fondo de Jubilación Para los Sacerdotes nos ofrece una manera de apoyar a nuestros sacerdotes católicos que nos han servido tan fielmente. Su contribución ayudará a los sacerdotes de
la arquidiócesis vivir modestamente y pacíficamente en la jubilación.
Ayúdenos a ofrecer gracias por los años de dedicación a Dios y
fiel servicio a nuestras comunidades parroquiales.

Special Collection – Priest Retirement Fund
Next weekend all parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los
Angeles will be asked to give generously to support the Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan Priests. At each Mass on June
11th & 12th, a second collection will be taken to benefit this
important program.
Currently, the fund provides for more than 100 priests who are
retired. Over the next ten years, that number is expected to
increase significantly. With minimal compensation, and in
many cases, no pension, these men often retire with nothing to
fall back upon. Your contributions can change that.
The Priest Retirement Fund offers us a way to give back to our
Catholic priests who have served us so faithfully. Your contribution will help archdiocesan priests live modestly and peacefully in retirement.
Help us offer thanks for their years of devotion to God, and
faithful service to our parish communities.
