hen the British and French
were fighting in Canada in
the 1750s, Admiral Phipps,
commander of the British
fleet, was told to anchor
outside Quebec. He was
given orders to wait for the
British land forces to arrive, and then
support them when they attacked the city.
Phipps' navy arrived early. As the admiral
waited, he became annoyed by the
statues of the saints that adorned the
towers of a nearby cathedral, so he
commanded his men to shoot at them
with the ships' cannons. No one knows
how
many
rounds
were
fired or how
many statues
were knocked
out, but when
the land forces
arrived and the
signal
was
given to attack,
the admiral was
of no help. He
had used up all
his ammunition shooting at the "saints."

He instead reminds us that the way in is
narrow – the only way in is through him.
We won’t get into heaven because we
prayed the rosary more times than the
neighbor down the street, but because
we have made our personal conversation
with the Lord a habit in our daily life. We
won’t get into heaven because our
mother worries and prays over us all the
time, but because we have imitated her
example of love and sacrifice in our care
for those for whom we are responsible.

but because we
choose to do
our best to
imitate
the
example
of
Jesus as we
walk
through
each day.

save us
In today’s gospel Jesus is asked
an interesting question. “Lord, will only a
few be saved?” Jesus is not preaching a
message that puts up obstacles or
causes people to feel unwelcome. And,
when God makes the decision to create
each person, Jesus says that he has
already prepared a place for them in
heaven. God is always creating new
people, and his plan is to have them join
him as saints. So, the number of those
who will be saved is most likely large, or
God’s plan isn’t working as he expected.
Where did that question come from?
There is a human tendency to
allow our self to be comfortable in taking
part in shooting at the “saints.” Perhaps
this questioner felt themselves to be one
who would be on God’s list of good
people. So, they wanted to make sure
that they were as special as they
imagined they were. Surely the number
of this special group was small.
Jesus doesn’t answer with a
number or the percentage of those

time we worry
about someone
else
being
blessed more
than we are, or try to prove our goodness
by pointing out the imperfections of
another; as we decide who belongs and
who does not get into our circle of those
who deserve our respect and attention,
we discover we have taken the wrong
path. We plan to be saved, to one day be
among those with God in heaven. And
that was God’s plan from the beginning.
But we are personally responsible for our
becoming a saint. And, if Jesus is not yet
reflected in all aspects of our life, we
don’t have time to shoot at the “saints”.
We have to keep our attention on our
personal relationship with Jesus. He is
the one who will save us.

National Catholic Youth
Conference—Join Us!
Parish youth are invited to attend the
largest pilgrimage of Catholic youth in
the United States on Nov. 21-23 in
Indianapolis. The participants
experience some of the most amazing
liturgies and prayer experiences, great
speakers like Jesse Manibusan and
Matt Maher. The cost of this pilgrimage
will be $700, but there will be numerous
fundraisers and scholarships. A meeting

Cuando los Británicos y
Franceses estaban peleando
en Canada en 1750,
Almirante
Phipps,
comandante de la flota
Británica, le dijeron que
anclara fuera de Quebec. Le
dieron ordenes de esperar a que las fuerzas
Británicas llegaran, y apoyarlos cuando
atacaran la cuidad. La armada de Phipps
llego temprano. Al esperar, el Almirante
empezó a enojarse por ver a todos los
estatuas de santos que adornaban las torres
de la catedral, entonces ordeno a sus
hombres que dispararan a las estatuas con
los cañones. Nadie sabe cuantas rondas
fueron disparadas o cuantas estatuas fueron
destruidas, pero cuando las fuerzas llegaron
y recibieron la señal
para
atacar,
el
almirante
no
le
ayudo. El había
usado todas sus
m u n i c i o n e s
disparando a los
“santos”.
E n

evangelio de hoy a
Jesús le hacen una
p r e g u n t a
interesante, “Señor,
¿es verdad que son pocos los que se
salvan?” Jesús no predica un mensaje que
pone obstáculos o causa que la gente se
sienta incomodo. Cuando Dios hace la
decisión de crear a cada persona, Jesús
dice que el ya ha preparado un lugar para
ellos en el cielo. Dios siempre hace gente
nueva, y su plan es que ellos lo acompañen
como santos. Entonces, el numero de
personas que serán salvados es
probablemente grande, o el plan de Dios no
esta trabajando como el lo esperaba. ¿De
donde viene esa pregunta?
Hay una tendencia humana de
dejarnos estar cómodos de tomar parte en
disparar a los “santos”. Quizás el que
pregunta se sintió ser uno en la lista de
gente buena. Entonces, querían asegurarse
que eran lo especial que se imaginaban.
Seguramente el numero de este grupo
especial era pequeño.
Jesús no contesta con un numero o
un porcentaje de los que serán santos. El
nos recuerda que el camino es angosto—el
único camino es atreves de el. No
entraremos al cielo porque oramos el rosario
mas veces que el vecino, pero porque
hemos hecho nuestro conversación
personal con el Señor un habito en nuestra
vida diaria. No entraremos al cielo porque
nuestra madre se preocupa y ora por
nosotros todo el tiempo, pero porque
nosotros hemos imitado su ejemplo de amor
y sacrificio cuando cuidamos aquellos que
son nuestra responsabilidad. No entraremos
al cielo porque otros nos vieron y piensan
que somos santos, pero porque nosotros
elegimos ser lo mejor para imitar el ejemplo
de Jesús al caminar cada día.
Cada vez que nos preocupamos
que alguien es mas bendecido que
nosotros, o tratamos de demostrar nuestra
bondad al señalar
las imperfecciones
de otros; al decidir
quien pertenece y
quien no puede
entrar en nuestro
circulo de los que se
merecen
nuestro
respeto y atención,
descubrimos
que
hemos tomado el
camino incorrecto.
Nosotros planeamos
ser salvados. Y que algún día estaremos
con Dios en el cielo. Ese fue el plan de Dios
desde el principio. Pero, somos
personalmente responsables por ser un
santo. Y, si Jesús no esta reflejado en todos
los aspectos de nuestra vida, nosotros no
tenemos tiempo de disparar a los “santos”.
Tenemos que mantener nuestra atención en
nuestra relación con Jesús. El es quien nos
salvara.

Misión Familiar Servidores del Altar
La familia tiene la misión de revelar,
custodiar y comunicar el amor. Ese
amor es el reflejo del amor de Dios a
los hombres y del amor de Cristo a
su Iglesia. Sólo en un ambiente
amoroso puede el hombre aprender
a desplegar plenamente su personalidad y alcanzar la meta
que Dios propone a todo hombre: la santidad. La familia es el
medio querido por Dios para que los hombres colaboren
ordenadamente en su decreto Creador y Salvador. Les
invitamos a una semana de reflexión, meditación y alabanza
familiar para discernir la voluntad de Dios en su vida y hogar.
Nos visitara la familia Misionera Mejía de Puerto Vallarta,
México. La misión se llevara a cabo del 2 al 6 de Septiembre
en la Cafetería de la Escuela de 7 a 9 pm. Para más

El Servidor del Altar está muy de
cerca de Jesucristo en el Sacrificio de
la Eucaristía. Es una bendición para
los niños y jóvenes que sirven en este
ministerio poder presencia de tan
cerca el milagro de amor de Jesús por
el hombre. El servir en este ministerio
es un llamado de Dios para colaborar
con el Sacerdote en la celebración de
la liturgia, sirviendo al altar y a la
comunidad. Si su hijo/a ha recibido el
Sacramento de la Primera Comunión, motívelo a llenarse de
la gracia de Dios al servir en este maravilloso ministerio. El
15 de Septiembre a las 3:15 pm. en el salón de la Biblioteca
tendremos una clase especial para todos los servidores del
Altar y aquellos que quieran integrarse. Tendremos Pizza,
diversión e información para compartir. Les esperamos!!

sirve a familias en la formación del
desarrollo infantil a niños de 0 a 4 años
para prepararse antes de ir a la
escuela. Las clases de los padres se
enfocan en el desarrollo social,
emocional, físico y cognoscitivo de sus
hijos. Las clases son completamente
gratis y tienen una duración de nueve
meses, se asiste una vez a la semana
