Notes on BB and McGraw-Hill McGraw-Hill has a building block that allows a McGraw-Hill Connect course to be linked to a Blackboard Learn section. This allows instructors to create quizzes, assessments, and other activities and place them in Blackboard. When students click on the activities they will be taken to the Connect course, usually without having to log in again. After finishing the activity, the score will automatically go to the Blackboard Learn Grade Center. To get started with the Blackboard Learn and McGraw-Hill Connect link, you can look at these tutorials http://create.mcgraw-hill.com/wordpress-mu/bb-connect-splash/ Things to keep in mind: When “pairing” a Connect course with a Blackboard course it can be easier to create a course in Connect first, then go into Blackboard and pair them, but the step-by-step process will let you create a course on the fly from within Blackboard Learn. When making a new assignment you can add questions from previous assignments, the existing book’s test banks, or test banks from related books in your discipline. You can also create your own questions (you’ll need Java installed, since it uses Java for the text entry window). If you’d like questions randomly selected from a large set of questions, add them as a pool. When students take a quiz, they need to buy access to the tool or can use a temporary account for 3 weeks, which can be converted into a regular account when they pay online. There is also a free mobile app, “LearnSmart”, can be downloaded on iPhones or iPads. The link can be found here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/learnsmart/id365879172?mt=8 The mobile “LearnSmart” doesn’t recognize due dates from the course and generates due dates randomly. You can skip confidence levels on the mobile device but not online. It has some hiccups, and should not be relied on for all of the student’s work through the semester. Also, students can access some content (quizzes, activities, exercises) through the apps that they have not been granted access to online.
