PASSION & PURPOSE FOR
MARRIAGE
St. Agnes Church has the great honor of
hosting renowned author & speaker, Dr. Allen Hunt
from Dynamic Catholic. He will be speaking on the
subject of marriage. This is a wonderful opportunity
to give you and your families the gift of a healthy and
happy marriage this holiday season. This event will
be held on January 23, 2016, from 9:00 AM to 1:30
PM in the St. Agnes Auditorium. The tickets are $25
per person and can be purchased on line
at DynamicCatholic.com, or call (859) 980-7900.
Tickets will also be sold following the Masses in
January up until the event. We hope to see you
there.
St. Agnes held a 2nd through 8th grade Spelling Bee. Our
co-champions, Saidy Burch (7th grade) and Grace
Aldrich (3rd grade), will be headed to the Miami-Herald
Spelling Bee in March. Congratulations to all the
amazing school spellers, it was a very exciting event!
Applications for the 2016-17 school year are available

Gospel reading
A reading from the holy Gospel according to
Luke 1:39-45
Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house
of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her
womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you
among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother
of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the
infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the
Lord would be fulfilled.”
Brief commentary
“On the fourth Sunday of Advent we stand at the threshold of Christmas. How incomparable is Christmas, how singular
its good news, how much joy and solace, hope and cheer, good will and light it brings to so many in so many places! Even
– and especially – in the most difficult places and moments we know that the heart of Christmas is not the
commercialization that so exploits it (and us!), but rather its heart is the One who comes in solidarity with us, sharing in
the most difficult places and moments of our lives and of our world. The Son of God entered our world in solitude, in
poverty, under oppression, in obscureness, in utter vulnerability. Absolutely none of the spectacle or opulence of today’s
Christmas celebrations adorned him. Instead, his entrance into the world is very much in union with the abandoned and
forgotten, the marginal and the ignored, the suffering and the desperate. All who find themselves in such situations can
say that this day is for them, they are in good company…Christmas is first and foremost their day. Like Elizabeth our
hearts leap for joy at the nearness of Christ, who came to us through the humble but daring young Jewess of Nazareth.
Mary dared to say ‘yes’ to God’s plan in spite of all difficulties; she dared to believe and trust. It is to her that as the
Church we draw our attention to today. Just as we heard John the Baptist’s message this Advent, now Mary’s ‘greeting
reaches us’. She is the ‘blessed’ one who first believed in the astonishing way in which God’s Word was to take flesh in
our world, and the first and foremost to love the ‘fruit of her womb’. Mary’s visitation of her kinswoman in the Judean
hill country is one that she makes to us today…to us her children, her brothers and sisters. She calls on us to open anew
our hearts and lives to her son Jesus, who ‘has come to accomplish the will of God’. What prophets like Micah
announced continues to find fulfillment today, for Jesus’ ‘greatness increasingly reaches to the ends of the earth’ and he
continues to be the ‘source of peace’ for countless. In Jesus ‘God has roused his power and come to save us’; in him God
“saves us in every way that a human being can be saved.” How we will celebrate Christmas is not as important as how
we will understand and live Christmas, how we will live as a result of Christmas. This year, in particular, let us live
Christmas in solidarity with our persecuted sisters and brothers in Syria, Iraq, Libya, and so many other places where
the Child of Christmas and his followers continue to find no room.
Today’s reading offers two significant messages:
• For Christians Christmas is the good news of God’s identification
and solidarity with each human person. Far beyond its commercial
exploitation, the real power of Christmas is that it announces to all
that God has drawn personally near to them; and because of this
nothing will ever be the same.
• The example of Mary inspires us also to say ‘yes’ to God and to
God’s plan with daring confidence. It also puts us on the path to serve
those in need, just as Mary ‘went in haste’ to assist Elizabeth.
• This Christmas we commit ourselves to doing whatever we can to
alleviate and make known the suffering of Christians throughout the
world, most especially those who are being brutally persecuted in the
Middle East and Africa. Much more than a cultural holiday, or even
liturgical celebration, in Christmas we must commit to serve those
most in need for whom the Son of God came and died.

En aquellos días, María se puso de camino y fue a prisa a la montaña, a un pueblo de Judá; entró en
casa de Zacarías y saludó a Isabel. En cuanto Isabel oyó el saludo de María, saltó la criatura en su
vientre. Se llenó Isabel del Espíritu Santo y dijo a voz en grito: "¡Bendita tú entre las mujeres, y bendito
el fruto de tu vientre! ¿Quién soy yo para que me visite la madre de mi Señor? En cuanto tu saludo llegó
a mis oídos, la criatura saltó de alegría en mi vientre. Dichosa tú que has creído, porque lo que te ha
dicho el Señor se cumplirá."
Comentario breve
En el cuarto domingo de Adviento estamos al umbral de la Navidad. ¡Que incomparable es la Navidad, que singular sus
buenas nuevas, cuanto gozo y consolación, esperanza y alegría, buena voluntad y luz le trae a tantos and tantos lugares!
Hasta – y especialmente – en los mas difíciles lugares y momentos sabemos que el corazón de la Navidad no es la
comercialización que tanto la explota (¡y a nosotros!), pero en vez su corazón es El que viene en solidaridad con nosotros,
compartiendo los lugares y momentos mas difíciles en nuestras vidas y mundo. El Hijo de Dios entró nuestro mundo en
soledad, pobreza, bajo opresión, en obscuridad, en completa vulnerabilidad. Absolutamente ninguno de los espectáculos
u opulencia de nuestras celebraciones Navideñas lo decoraron. En vez, su entrada al mundo fue mucho en unión con los
abandonados y olvidados, los marginados e ignorados, los que sufren y los que se desesperan. Todos los que se
encuentran en tales situaciones pueden decir que este día es para ellos, que están en buena compañía…la Navidad es
principalmente su día. Como Isabel, nuestros corazones saltan de gozo a la cercanía de Cristo, quien nos vino a través de
una humilde pero intrépida judía de Nazaret. María se atrevió a decir ‘si’ al plan de Dios a pesar de toda dificultad; ella
se atrevió a creer y a confiar. Es a ella que como la Iglesia nos dirigimos hoy. Así como oímos el mensaje de Juan el
Bautista este Adviento, ahora el saludo de María nos llega. Ella es la ‘bendita’ que fue la primera que creyó en la manera
sorprendente en que ‘la Verbo de Dios se hizo carne’ en nuestro mundo, y la principal que amo ‘el fruto de su vientre’.
La visitación de María a su prima Isabel en el pueblo montañoso de Judea es una que también ella nos hace hoy…a
nosotros sus hijos, sus hermanos y hermanas. Ella nos llama a abrir nuestros corazones y vidas a su hijo Jesús, quien ‘ha
venido a cumplir la voluntad de Dios’. Lo que profetas como Miqueas anunciaron continua a cumplirse hoy, porque la
‘grandeza de Jesús continua a extenderse a los confines de la tierra’ y él continúa siendo la ‘fuente de paz’ para
innumerables. En Jesús ‘Dios ha alzado su poder y ha venido a salvarnos’; en el Dios “nos salva en toda manera en que el
ser humano puede ser salvado.” Cómo celebraremos la Navidad no es tan importante como la manera en que la
entenderemos y la vivemos, cómo viviremos como consecuencia de la Navidad. Este año, en particular, vivamos la
Navidad en solidaridad con nuestros hermanos y hermanas en Siria, Irak, Libia, y en tantos otros lugares donde el Niño
de la Navidad y sus seguidores todavía no encuentran lugar. La lectura de hoy nos presenta dos ideas
importantes:
• Para los Cristianos la Navidad es la buena nueva de la identificación y
solidaridad de Dios con cada ser humano. Mucho mas allá que la
explotación comercial, el verdadero poder de la Navidad es que anuncia a
todos que Dios se ha acercado personalmente a ellos; y por eso nada
permanecerá igual.
• El ejemplo de María nos inspira a decirle ‘si’ a Dios y su plan con
confianza intrépida. También nos pone en camino a servir a los
necesitados, así como María ‘se apresuró’ para asistir a Isabel.
• Esta Navidad comprometámonos a hacer cualquier cosa que podamos
para aliviar y hacer conocer el sufrimiento de Cristianos alrededor del
mundo, especialmente a aquellos quienes están brutalmente perseguidos
en el Medio Oriente y África. Mucho mas que una festividad cultural, o
hasta una celebración litúrgica, en la Navidad debemos comprometernos
a servir a los necesitados por quienes el Hijo de Dios vino y murió.

silencio, comparta con otros sus ideas o
sentimientos.

INMIGRANTES
Durante 32 años la generosa comunidad de St.
Agnes ha dado regalos de Navidad a los niños
inmigrantes de Homestead. Los nombres de
estos niños de edad preescolar están colocados en
tazones rojos a la entrada de la iglesia y en la
puerta lateral. Lea cuidadosamente la información
del sobre que contiene el nombre del niño. Por
favor traer los regalos a la Iglesia este domingo 20
de diciembre de 2015. ¡Mil gracias!

¿QUE HACER PARA
DISFRUTAR DE LA NAVIDAD?
1. SERENATE. No dejes que el esperar y no
lograr una “perfecta” celebración te deje
frustrado. Echa fuera de ti toda actividad que
añada tensión a la estación.

2. CONCENTRATE en Jesús. Puedes colocar el
misterio del pesebre en un lugar visible de tu
casa y habla sobre el nacimiento de Jesús en
las reuniones de tu hogar.
MI ORACION DE NAVIDAD
4. COMPARTE la Paz de Cristo con otros que
sufren necesidades. Invita a alguien que
puede sentirse solo a tus celebraciones.
Puedes hacer trabajo voluntario alimentando
y atendiendo a los necesitados.
Que el Señor te conceda su Paz en ésta Navidad.
Que llene de gozo tu corazón.
Que te dé salud y felicidad,
durante el año que está muy cerca.
Que el Señor te guíe con su sabiduría.
Que te proteja y te cuide.
Esta es mi oración, mi deseo y mi felicitación.
MISAS DURANTE ADVIENTO
Como parte de la preparación
durante el Tiempo de Adviento, en
nuestra parroquia se ofrecerán misas
en español de lunes a viernes las 8:00
PM. Es una oportunidad para reflexionar y
prepararnos para el nacimiento del Niño Dios.
3. BUSCA LA SOLEDAD. Dedica 10 ó 15
minutos cada día para orar, leer la Biblia y
meditarla. Lee los pasajes del Nacimiento y
otros que hablan de Paz.
5. ¡ALEGRATE!! El Príncipe de la paz ha
llegado. Que tu corazón se alegre. Este es el
propósito de la Navidad.

Derrama, Señor, tu gracia sobre
nosotros, que hemos conocido
por el anuncio del ángel la
encarnación de tu Hijo, para que
lleguemos, por su pasión y su cruz, a la gloria
