That through our service and our sacrifice we may grow
closer to Jesus and help others to know the love and care of
Our Lord. “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of
all and the servant of all.” (Mark 9:35) Jesus teaches us that
we are called to serve one another. Sacrifice is not a word
that many people like to hear. We think it means that we
must give up something that we want. However, the literal
meaning of sacrifice is “to make holy,” from the words
“sacer” = sacred and “facere” = to make. In other words, we
make our lives holy by sharing our gifts in the service of
God.

LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners,
One difficulty that comes with pursuing true and lasting
success, the success of humble, Christ-like service, is what
spiritual writers call "purity of intention." It is possible to do
something noble, right, and good on the outside, while
having selfish motives on the inside. Doing the right thing
for the wrong reason. But making spiritual maturity involves
following Christ both on the outside and on the inside. It
involves carrying out Christ-like actions: doing what is
morally right, even when it is difficult or unpopular; being
patient and forgiving with people who drive us crazy; finding
creative ways to encourage and support those around us...
But it also involves forming a Christ-like heart: recognizing
that every single person, starting with oneself, is valued,
esteemed, and appreciated by God; actually wanting what is
best for every person, regardless of whether or not we
happen to get along with them; considering other people just
as important as ourselves... This is purity of intention, and
it's daunting - it seems like something only saints could do.
But that's not true; with God's grace, we can all gradually
grow in this virtue, and we need to, if we want to achieve
True Success.
But how? There is one simple way: doing good without
seeking rewards. This is what Jesus meant when he said we
"your left hand must not know what your right is doing"
(Matthew 6:3). Doing what is right and good without looking
for recognition is the surest way to purify our heart of hidden
selfishness. It's also the quickest way to deepen our
friendship with Christ - after all, he gave his very life for the
salvation of all souls, knowing that some would thank him
for it, but others would crucify him for it. Today, as Jesus
renews his commitment to us, let's ask him to help us, this
week, along the high road to True Success.

CARTA DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO
Queridos Parroquianos,
Una dificultad que viene persiguiendo el verdadero y
duradero éxito, el éxito del servicio humilde, como el
de Cristo, es lo que los escritores espirituales llaman
"pureza de intención." Es posible hacer algo noble,
justo y bueno en el exterior, mientras que tienes
motivos egoístas en el interior. Haciendo lo correcto
por la razón equivocada. Pero teniendo la madurez
espiritual implica seguir a Cristo en el exterior y en el
interior. Se trata de llevar a cabo acciones como las
de Cristo: haciendo lo que es moralmente correcto,
incluso cuando es difícil o no eres popular; ser
paciente y perdonar a quienes nos vuelven locos;
encontrando maneras creativas de animar y apoyar a
los que nos rodean...
Pero también implica formar un corazón como el de
Cristo: reconociendo que cada persona, empezando
por uno mismo, es valorado, Estimado y apreciado por
Dios; querer realmente lo que es mejor para cada
persona, independientemente de si nos llevamos bien
o no con ellos; considerando a las otras personas tan
importante como a nosotros mismos... Esto es pureza
de intención y es desalentador - parece algo que
podrían hacer solamente los Santos. Pero eso no es
cierto; con la gracia de Dios, podemos todos poco a
poco crecer en esta virtud, y necesitamos, si
queremos alcanzar el éxito verdadero.
Pero ¿cómo? Hay una manera simple: hacer el bien sin
buscar recompensas. Esto es lo que Jesús quiso decir
cuando dijo "su mano izquierda no debe saber lo que
hace tu derecha" (Matthew 6:3). Haciendo lo que es
correcto y bueno sin buscar reconocimiento es la
forma más segura de purificar nuestro corazón del
egoísmo escondido. También es la forma más rápida
para profundizar nuestra amistad con Cristo, después
de todo, él dio su vida para la salvación de las almas,
sabiendo que algunos le agradecen, por esto pero
otros lo crucificara por esto. Hoy en día, como Jesús
renueva su compromiso con nosotros, vamos a pedirle
que nos ayude, esta semana, a lo largo del camino al
verdadero éxito.

Para que a través de nuestro servicio y nuestro sacrificio
podamos acercarnos a Jesús y ayudar a otros a conocer el amor
y el cuidado de Nuestro Señor. “Si alguno quiere ser el primero,
será el postrero de todos, y el servidor de todos.” (Marcos 9:35)
Jesús nos enseña que somos llamados a servirnos el uno al otro.
Sacrificio no es una palabra que muchas personas quieren
escuchar. Pensamos que significa que debemos renunciar a algo
que deseamos. Sin embargo, el significado literal de sacrificio es
“hacer sagrado” de las palabras “sacer” = sagrado y “facere” =
hacer. En otras palabras, hacemos nuestras vidas santas
compartiendo nuestros dones al servicio de Dios.

parents of CCE students who are in 2nd through the 6th grade
who already attended to Religious Education classes last
year and have not received their First Communion. The
parents need to come to this meeting to register for the

Curso de Formación en Pastoral Juvenil
Este es un curso básico para jóvenes adultos de habla hispana
que son líderes o aquellos que piensan ser líderes en el futuro en
los grupos de jóvenes de su parroquia y/o adultos que trabajan
con jóvenes. Los prepara para su rol como líderes. Este curso se
llevara a cabo por ocho domingos consecutivos, comenzando el 4
de octubre hasta el 22 de noviembre, en el edificio de Morkovsky
de la Cancillería St. Dominic, 2403 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, a
partir de 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. El costo de este curso es de $100

Red Mass, dinner for the legal profession
The annual Red Mass will be held at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred
Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Pkwy. Tuesday, Sept. 29. Parishioners in the
legal profession are encouraged to participate in this centuries-old
tradition, invoking the blessings of the Holy Spirit at the opening of the
judicial year. The Mass will be followed by dinner at the Cathedral
Centre at 7:30 p.m. This year’s dinner speaker will be Gov. Greg Abbott,
the 48th governor of Texas. Dinner seating is limited. For information,

New support group for those afflicted with any type of abuse (physical,
sexual, emotional, spiritual or mental) will begin to meet at 7:00 pm on the

Elder Abuse
Elder abuse can happen to anyone and it can take many

dependent on someone else for their care. Texas requires by
law the reporting of elder abuse or the suspicion of elder
abuse. If you know of someone who cannot care for
himself/herself, or who is being abused, neglected or
exploited, whether they live alone or with a spouse or
caregiver, Texas law requires that you report the abuse. The
number is 1-800-252-5400; your report will remain
