Website. 2012 http://www.filesinventory.com/ Instalation view at the Mediocre exhibition Dodecá Foundation, Montevideo, Uruguay. 2013 Liliana Farber Artist Statement The computer generated works are composed by using various types of custom made software that manipulate masses of collected materials and assemble new variations thus emulating 'big data' sets that manage information automatically by using algorithms. The outcome is a hyper aesthetic abstract image. These works question the hierarchy of knowledge, the conception of data and the visualization process of various forms of narrative. They inspect the complex relationships between pieces of information and their relation to personal and collective memory and scrutinize the ways in which visual information is stored and how it relates to the forming of identity by linking the visual memory to both the personal and the collective sphere. The creation and storage of imagery is rapidly becoming a simple and accessible process as the number of pictures being taken and posted online is growing each year. This unprecedented process contributes to the notion that all forms of information are accessible while both the consumption and manufacturing grow. This phenomenon increases the common perception of an information utopia that rarely questions the validity of its numerous sources, or the validity of the powerful databases that are driven by signal analyzing algorithms which are meant to be impartial and objective act as agents that solely promote customization, personalization and delivery of information. This leaves the viewer with the process of building and forming a connection built from the endless fragments that are delivered. The result of these artworks is abstract images, artificially manufactured and devoid of choice. Capturing the beauty of the process and the relation of the manufactured software to the information it uses. Between the imported imagery to the electronic automated one. The works capture the tension between the recognizable image and abstraction that derives from the abundance of information, carefully eliminating the element of specification. Diluting the image into a near blur and keeping the initial recognizable image well out of reach. They relate to the automatic shift from image to image, emulating the hypertext phenomenon where the viewer endlessly drifts from one point to the next.
