Bartimaeus encounters Jesus “on the way.” So did the rich man. He belonged to the higher social status and rejected an invitation to the Lord. The one at the absolute bottom of the social order, Bartimaeus, does not even wait for the invitation to be extended. He jumps up, gives up all, and is ready to follow Jesus “on the way.” He is able to see what the rich man did not. Sometimes in the Gospel we see people tell the Lord what they want him to do for them. Jesus asks Bartimaeus what he wants the Lord to do for him. The response : Lord I want to see. How is the Lord offering to help you? Place your trust completely in him.
