Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Medalla Milagrosa w w w. M i r a c u l o u s M e d a l C h u rc h . o r g September 27, 2015 TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OUR PRODIGAL GOD We keep having to relearn how prodigal God is. It is as if God cannot quite manage to say no. We think it is surely fine when God is prodigal with us—rich in mercy and forgiveness, generous in grace. But what about the other—the enemy, the sinner, the heretic, the outsider? Well, we expect God to be as stingy with that person as we are. Moses and Joshua wanted such a cozy world, too. They wondered how the spirit of God could be given to the two who did not show up at the meeting tent—today’s church. And the apostles in the Gospel complained because there were some miracle workers who were clearly not followers of Jesus. God’s great free wheeling generosity confounded them all. Let this be, says Jesus. Just see to it that you who lead continue to be worthy of your calling. PRAISE AND WORSHIP BEFORE THE LORD Join the Youth Group this Friday from 6-7pm praising and loving God before the Blessed Sacrament. We will offer our hearts and voices as we lift them to the Lord through prayer and song. We’ll be singing along to recordings from Worship leaders like Bob Rice. You may discover that this is your favorite way to praise God as your heart and mind are moved in thanksgiving and adoration. Come and See. OPEN ENROLLMENT GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP Need a place to share your story? A place where others are ready to listen? Join our Bereavement Ministry at one of the two 7 week sessions this fall. THERE ARE NO FEES Session I will be held at Miraculous Medal and begins Tuesday, October 6th, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Session II will be held at Immaculate Conception and begins Wednesday, October 7th, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Call Deacon Barry Krofcheck (724) 986-0866 for registration or more information. THE MASS ON THE WEB Don’t forget to stop by our website while you’re surfing the web. We are constantly updating it with news and events. We also have our Masses streamed live as well as archived from previous Masses. LANCASTER TRIP There will be a final meeting for those going to Lancaster on October 4th following the 11 AM mass in the church basement. Final payment for the trip is due by October 14th. 50/50 RAFFLE WINNER The winner of the 50/50 drawing during the Pancake Breakfast held September 12 was Barb Provenzano. Congratulations Barb! REST IN PEACE Please pray for the souls of Jude Pohl and Dorothy Balazy, parishioners. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in the peace of Christ’s love. DISCIPLESHIP OPPORTUNITIES Are you looking for some ways in which you can be involved in our parish? COMMITTEE & MINISTRY NOTES Welcome Sep 29 Church Hall Page 3 6:30pm ENCOUNTERING JESUS The Catholic Faith is founded on the person of Jesus. Over the centuries, we have come to know the Risen Lord through His Word, the Sacraments and the lived experiences of fellow Catholics. We’re having a 3-part series beginning next Sunday for 3 Sundays: October 4, 11 & 18 at 6pm in the Church Hall on how we meet Jesus in the world today. Some of our parishioners will share their encounter and experience of Jesus in their lives. Whether you’ve been Catholic your entire life or feel called to be a part of the Catholic Church, come to hear the stories of these fellow parishioners and how they grew in their faith. SAFETY MINISTRY & STEWARDSHIP OPPORTUNITY We would like to purchase three (3) BioHazard Cleanup Kits for placement in the Church and CCD Center. These kits will enable proper cleanup of bodily fluids that may present themselves. Scott Moore will train the Ushers in how to use these products to ensure the safety of parishioners from contacting communicable diseases. The cost of these kits are around $150.00 a piece. If you are interested in donating for these kits, please call the Rectory at 724-222-1911. 78TH INTERNATIONAL EUCHARISTIC ROSARY MARCH The Legion of Mary and the Diocese of Pittsburgh are sponsoring the 78th International Eucharistic Rosary March on Sunday, October 4. POPE FRANCIS’ JOY OF THE GOSPEL In a culture paradoxically suffering from anonymity and at the same time obsessed with the details of other people’s lives, shamelessly given over to morbid curiosity, the Church must look more closely and sympathetically at others whenever necessary. In our world, ordained ministers and other pastoral workers can make present the fragrance of Christ’s closeness and his personal gaze. The Church will have to initiate everyone – priests, religious and laity – into this “art of accompaniment” which teaches us to remove our sandals before the sacred ground of the other (cf. Ex 3:5). The pace of this accompaniment must be steady and reassuring, reflecting our closeness and our compassionate gaze which also heals, liberates and encourages growth in the Christian life. Although it sounds obvious, spiritual accompaniment must lead others ever closer to God, in whom we attain true freedom. Some people think they are free if they can avoid God; they fail to see that they remain existentially orphaned, helpless, homeless. They cease being pilgrims and become drifters, flitting around themselves and never getting anywhere. To accompany them would be counterproductive if it became a sort of therapy supporting their self-absorption and ceased to be a pilgrimage with Christ to the Father.
