IMPORTANT MESSAGE
MENSAJE IMPORTANTE
THIS HAPPENS EVERY SUMMER. Once Confirmations and First Communions are over, the collection dives. It is very sad. The mentality of way
too many people is: “We’ve got the certificate,
we’re out of here.’ Or for others, “It’s such a beautiful summer day, let’s go to the beach or have a picnic,” but Mass is not a part of their fun day. Still for
others, it’s off to Mexico or the Philippines, but
there is no thought of their parish back home which
keeps its doors open and continues to serve the people.
ESTO OCURRE CADA VERANO. Es muy triste ver
que ya terminadas las Confirmaciones y las Primeras
Comuniones, las colectas bajan drásticamente. La mentalidad de mucha gente es: "Ya tenemos el certificado,
vámonos de aquí.” O para otros, "es un día hermoso de
verano, vámonos a la playa o de día de campo,” pero la
Misa no es parte de su día divertido. Otras familias se
van a México o a las Filipinas, pero nadie piensa en la
parroquia de su comunidad que mantiene sus puertas
abiertas y continúa sirviendo a los feligreses durante
todo el año.
Take a look at the figures below. The last two
week’s collections dipped perilously low. This has
been a trend and if it continues, I will be forced to
enact some or all of the following measures: FEWER MASSES (because we will not be able to give a
modest stipend to the priests who help me). TURN
OFF THE AIR CONDITIONING. Without it, the
church and the hall are unbearably hot and this will
attract even fewer people to Mass. HAVE JUST
ONE VENUE FOR SUNDAY MASS (it costs the
parish considerably more to operate BOTH the
church and the school hall on Sundays).
The last thing we need is to default on our payments to the Archdiocese and go into debt. This
happened at a Long Beach parish not to long ago
and I will not allow that to happen here.
La colecta de la semana pasada y antepasada estuvieron demasiado bajas. Ultimadamente esto ya has
sido común cada domingo y si sigue así, me veré obligado a tomar algunas o todas las siguientes medidas:
MENOS MISAS (porque no podremos dar un modesto
estipendio a los sacerdotes que me ayudan a celebrar la
Misa). NO ENCENDER EL AIRE ACONDICIONADO. Sin éste, la parroquia y el auditorio están terriblemente calientes y esto hará que aún menos personas
vengan a Misa. SOLO TENER UN LUGAR PARA
CELEBRAR LA MISA DOMINICAL
(económicamente, a la parroquia le cuesta mucho más
mantener los dos lugares). Lo último que necesitamos
es el incumplimiento de nuestros pagos a la Arquidiócesis y endeudarnos con ellos. No hace mucho tiempo que
esto le ocurrió a una parroquia aquí en Long Beach y yo
no permitiré que esto también pase aquí.
There is a small minority of parishioners who
give generously and without fail every week. I am so
grateful to them. Without them—and they know
who they are—I don’t know where we’d be. But
now is the time for those who put $1 or $3 or $5 in
the collection basket—in some cases for years—to
come to the aid of their parish and “up the ante” as
they say. Otherwise, drastic measures like the ones
listed above will have to be taken.
Cada domingo sólo hay una pequeñísima minoría de
feligreses que donan generosamente y sin falta. Estoy
muy agradecido con ellos, ya que sin ellos – ellos saben
quiénes son- no sé dónde estaríamos. Ahora quisiera

Each day of Holy Innocents’ Annual Summer Day Camp for Girls is filled with
sports, arts and crafts, cooking classes and
dance! We will pray the Rosary and visit the
Blessed Sacrament in the parish church.

TO KNOW YOUR FAITH BETTER?
A new course for ADULTS is beginning on Tuesday,
September 8, at 7:00pm (1) for non-Catholics adults
who are interested in the Catholic faith; (2) for Catholic adults who have not yet received First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation; (3) for Catholic adults
who just want to deepen their knowledge of the Catholic faith. This course will survey the Catechism of the
Catholic Church and be taught by Mr. Gary Page. To sign
up, please go to the rectory office ASAP.

TO OUR LORD ON THE CROSS
M
y crucified Jesus, mercifully accept the
prayer which I now make to Thee for
help in the moment of my death, when at its
approach, all my senses shall fail me.
When, therefore, O sweetest Jesus, my
weary and downcast eyes can no longer look
up to Thee, be mindful of the loving gaze
which I now turn on Thee, and have mercy
on me.
When my parched lips can no longer kiss
Thy most sacred wounds, remember then
those kisses which now I imprint on Thee,
