RISEN!
Easter Sunday
Alleluia! Jesus Christ is risen! He is not
only alive. He lives forever!
For forty days, we refrained from speaking
or proclaiming this word in our Sunday and weekday liturgies.
Now, nothing can hold us back from saying it. It can be spoken.
It must be spoken. It must be proclaimed freely, joyfully, and
enthusiastically. This is the message of Easter. Jesus, the Son of
the living God, is not dead. He does not belong to the tomb. His
place is outside. He is alive. He lives forever!
During the Lenten season, we followed Jesus making His
way to Calvary. We've spent the last forty days focusing our
eyes on Him. We’ve prayed, reflected, fasted. We spent the last
week meditating upon his suffering and death. But the holy week
doesn’t end in death. It doesn’t make sense to remain in grief and
sorrow. It has to have a joyful ending. We have one of the great
symbols of the Easter, the Paschal candle. We lighted it, carried
in procession and shared its light together during last night’s
Easter Vigil. With it, we can say the word that we hear today.
"Alleluia! Christ is risen from the dead! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!"
However, this is not the thought of Mary Magdalene, who
went to the tomb early in the morning. She was visiting a dead
friend. She was expecting to see a lifeless body of her master.
This is also the thought of some of the disciples who went rushing to the tomb. They expected the dead to stay dead. They went
rushing to the tomb feeling confused, astonished and even afraid.
They thought the body of their teacher was stolen, not risen. That's just so un-Easter.
But, there was no dead body in that tomb. You don't find a
living savior in a tomb for dead people. He's alive. He's risen! He's risen indeed! Alleluia. The feeling is not fear but joy.
The attitude is hope, not desperation. The cry is victory, not defeat. We celebrate life not death.
Jesus has risen! Alleluia! But, Peter and the disciples didn’t
receive that message with joy. As if the news of the resurrection
was so unbelievable that it didn't have an impact on their lives at
all! It was as if it had no effect on them.
Jesus is risen! This message is the foundation of our faith,
dear fellow saints of God. The One crucified and died has risen
from the dead. The guards couldn’t keep Him dead. The stone in
front of the tomb couldn't hold Him in. He is not in the
tomb. He has risen from the dead, just as He promised.
Today, you have heard the message that Christ is risen from
the dead. How will we take or receive it? How are we going to
live? We can go back home afraid, doubtful or unaffected. We
can go back to our lying and gossip. We can go back and continue living as if nothing happens; as if Christ hasn't risen; As if this
was just another Easter, another Easter Service. Or we can be
raised from the dead by the Word. We can be Alive to God. We
can be empowered by it.
He is risen! No more fear. No more trembling. No more
living scared. No more looking afraid of death. Today. Because
of his resurrection, we are different, we are born from above,
born anew in the waters of our baptism. We may be the same as
when we came in the church today but are different, now that
we have heard the word that Jesus is risen from the dead. Today,
everything changes. Because of the Gospel!
Jesus lives and so must we. Happy Easter to everyone!
¡RESUCITADO!
Domingo de Pascua
¡Aleluya! ¡Jesucristo ha resucitado! Él no sólo está vivo. ¡Él vive
para siempre!
Durante cuarenta días, nos abstuvimos de hablar o proclamando esta
palabra en nuestras liturgias dominicales y entre semana. Ahora,
nada puede contenerlo a partir de decirlo. Se puede hablar. Debe ser
hablado. Debe ser proclamado libremente, con alegría, y con
entusiasmo. Este es el mensaje de Pascua. Jesús, el Hijo de Dios vivo
no está muerto. No pertenece a la tumba. Su lugar está fuera. Él está
vivo. ¡Él vive para siempre!
Durante el tiempo de Cuaresma, hemos seguido haciendo Jesús
camino del Calvario. Hemos pasado los últimos cuarenta días
enfocar nuestros ojos en Él. Hemos rezado, hemos reflexionado,
ayunábamos. Pasamos la última semana meditando su sufrimiento y
muerte. Pero la Semana Santa no termina en la muerte. No tiene
sentido permanecer en el dolor y la tristeza. Debe tener un final feliz.
Tenemos uno de los grandes símbolos de la Pascua, la vela
pascual. Hemos encendió, se llevó en procesión y compartir su luz
juntos durante Vigilia de Pascua de anoche. Con él, podemos decir la
palabra que oímos hoy. "¡Aleluya! ¡Cristo ha resucitado de entre los
muertos! ¡Él ha resucitado, aleluya!"
Sin embargo, este no es el pensamiento de María Magdalena, que fue
a la tumba temprano en la mañana. Ella estaba visitando a un amigo
muerto. Ella esperaba ver un cuerpo sin vida de su maestro. Esta es
también la idea de que algunos de los discípulos que iban que
acometen a la tumba. Se espera que los muertos se quedó muerto. Se
fueron que acometen a la sensación tumba confundido, asombrado e
incluso miedo. Pensaron que el cuerpo de su maestro fue robado, no
ha resucitado. Eso no es sólo Pascua.
Sin embargo, no había cadáver en la tumba. No se encuentra un
salvador que vive en una tumba para los muertos. Está vivo. ¡Él ha
resucitado! Aleluya. El sentimiento no es el miedo más que alegría.
La actitud es la esperanza no la desesperación. El clamor es la
victoria, no derrota. Celebramos la vida y no la muerte.
¡Jesús ha resucitado! ¡Aleluya! Pero, Pedro y los discípulos no
reciben ese mensaje de alegría. ¡Como si la noticia de la resurrección
era tan increíble que no tiene un impacto en sus vidas en absoluto!
Era como si no tuviera efecto en ellos.
¡Jesús ha resucitado! Este mensaje es el fundamento de nuestra
fe, queridos hermanos en la fe de Dios. El crucificado y muerto, ha
resucitado de entre los muertos. Los guardias no podía mantenerlo
muerto. La piedra delante de la tumba no pudo retenerlo. Él no está
en la tumba. Ha resucitado de entre los muertos, tal como lo
prometió.
Hoy, ustedes han escuchado el mensaje de que Cristo ha
resucitado de entre los muertos. ¿Cómo vamos a tomar o recibirlo?
¿Cómo vamos a vivir? Podemos regresar a casa asustado, dudoso o
no afectado. Podemos volver a nuestras mentiras y chismes.
Podemos volver atrás y seguir viviendo como si no pasa nada; como
si Cristo no ha resucitado; Como si esto era sólo otra Pascua, otro
servicio de Pascua. O podemos ser levantados de entre los muertos
por la Palabra. Podemos estar vivos para Dios. Podemos ser
benefician del mismo.
¡Ha resucitado! No más miedo. No más temblante. No se asusta
más la vida. No más mirar miedo a la muerte. Hoy, a causa de su
resurrección, somos diferentes, que nacen desde arriba, nacido de
nuevo en las aguas de nuestro bautismo. Podemos ser el mismo que
cuando nos encontramos en la iglesia de hoy, pero somos diferentes,
ahora que hemos oído la palabra que Jesús ha resucitado de entre los
muertos. Hoy, todo cambia. ¡Por causa del Evangelio!
Jesús vive y también debemos hacerlo. ¡Feliz Pascua a todos!

THE EXTRAORDINARY JUBILEE OF MERCY
December 8, 2015 - November 20, 2016
The Jubilee announcement had been made on the second anniversary of
the election of Pope Francis, during his homily for the penitential liturgy with which the Holy Father opened the “24 Hours for the Lord”.
This initiative, proposed by the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of
the New Evangelization, promotes throughout the world the opening of
churches for an extended period of time for the purpose of inviting
people to the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The theme
for this year has been taken from the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians,
“God rich in mercy” (Eph 2:4).
