We welcome back Ms. Lori Barabas as music teacher, Ms. Sandra Sanford as teacher for the second K4 with Mrs. Dawna Medders as her assistant, and Ms. Barbara McAllan as the literature teacher for middle school. Mrs. Summer Teegardin will begin the year in K3 while Mrs. Sophie Fulmer is on maternity leave. We welcome Mrs. Katherine (Kinard) Davis, a BSCS graduate, as teacher for first grade, Ms. Alyssa Yesalavich as teacher for the second K3 class with Mrs. Andi Campbell as her assistant, and Mrs. Katie Arthurs as the Academic Support teacher for all grades. Mrs. Whitney Engel will be the Assistant Director of Extended Day. Welcome, one and all! This year includes changes to the carline route. The new route does not allow left turns onto Morton Drive or Brennon Street; thus, the route from Savannah Highway is at Moore Drive (by John Wesley United Methodist Church) and around the loop to Saint Theresa Drive. Cars exit to the right when leaving BSCS carline (yet another no left turn). This year includes updates to the uniforms (K4-8th). All logoed items must have the chalice and cross logo! Please see the school website for more updates. Uniforms may be ordered online through Land's End or purchased locally or ordered through Read's Uniforms (Orleans Road, across from Citadel Mall). Rising 8th graders and 5th graders are exempt from the day-to-day changes! 8th graders are also exempt from the PE uniform changes. All students must adhere to the changes for shoes! The online suggestion box and the suggestion box in the church vestibule is an opportunity to share feedback, praise, input, suggestions or concerns with the parish. On a monthly basis, all submissions will be reviewed by the Pastoral Council for discussion and action. The responses will be publicly shared via the parish bulletin. Please include your name and contact information on the suggestion card, so that we can ensure we understand and respond accordingly. Thank you to those who have sent in suggestions! Suggestion: I would like to request that religious education classes be moved back to Sundays at any time (or at least be given the option of Wednesday night or Sunday). ... Response: The program is better being held on Wednesday evenings as opposed to Sundays for the following reasons: safety concerns because of the heavy traffic in the church parking lot on Sundays; the limited amount of time for catechesis between the 9am and 11am Masses; the number of people coming in late to Mass and leaving Mass early for class on Sundays; and breaking the Eucharistic fast by going to the hall for donuts on the way to Sunday Mass. Suggestion: We should strive to be more in communion with our Hispanic brethren by having all bilingual Masses. Response: We need to work toward social integration aspects first such as having an international food day. We have been scheduling bilingual elements in special Masses. Suggestion: Please consider adding 2 designated parking spaces for the scheduled adoration chapel people. Response: This has been taken under advisement. CHILD PROTECTION SERVICES Diocesan Office of Child Protection (843) 261-0430 Diocesan Victim Assistance Coordinator (843) 856-0748 RESPECT LIFE TODAY'S READINGS: "We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets." Evidently, that is not enough to be saved. The Gospel today challenges us to be disciples internally, not just externally. We may indeed eat and drink with the Lord: He is among us. We go to Mass; we identify ourselves as Christians to others; we have our sacramental certificates; and we might wear crosses and have other religious symbols around us. But that is not enough. We may indeed hear the Lord teach in our streets. He continues to teach and proclaim his Gospel every time an ordained minister of the Church gives a homily. We hear the Lord speaking through many others, too, and through our own individual contact with his Word. But still that is not enough. Discipleship requires obedience to the teaching we hear the Lord give us, and actual union with the one with whom we sit at table. This has implications for our prolife stance. It is not and cannot be enough simply to "be" pro-life, in the sense that we "believe" abortion is wrong, "oppose" it, or have the right viewpoint. Attitudinal opposition to abortion has to translate into behavioral opposition, not just in the sense that we would never participate in it, but in the sense that we do not tolerate it. On the contrary, we reach out and intervene to save others who are being aborted by the choice of others.
