anaheim public utilities CELEBRATE PUBLIC POWER WEEK October 2-9 is national Public Power Week, a week-long celebration to learn about the many benefits of having a community-owned utility that delivers low-cost and reliable energy. Join Anaheim Public Utilities for a special showcase at the Downtown Anaheim Farmer’s Market on Thursday, October 6, from Noon to 3 p.m. We will be hosting a variety of activities that will include: • Free giveaways when you spin the prize wheel • Information on our rebates and efficiency upgrade programs that can help conserve energy and save money • Free rides in the utility bucket truck with a great view of the city Be on the lookout for our field crews sporting pink hard hats to show our support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month all throughout October. A special insert will be included in the Orange County Register at the end of September with details on how to enter into our opportunity drawing to win your very own pink hard hat and emergency toolkit. Visit anaheim.net/utilities for more information. YOUR NEW LANDSCAPE WATERING SCHEDULE In July, the Anaheim City Council approved an ordinance to allow residents one extra day of watering which will help trees remain healthy during warmer weather. Residents can now water their landscapes 3 days per week. Still in effect, standard sprinklers are limited to a maximum of 8 minutes per irrigation station (see top-right). Water conservation is a way of life in California, and we encourage customers to continue to use water wisely; every drop counts. Visit anaheim.net/savewater for more details. SAVE MONEY AND ENERGY WITH OUR SUMMEREADY PROGRAM Anaheim Public Utilities is offering a number of ways for residents to conserve energy, save money, and beat the heat. Increased rebates are available for highefficiency measures and appliances, that can reduce home energy use by 20-50%. With the potential for increased strains on regional power supplies during warmer weather, these smart choices mean increased energy reliability for everyone. Customers can also receive a $20 credit per 2-month billing period by reducing energy use by 20% from July 1-October 31, 2016, when compared to last summer's usage. It’s simple to do; increasing thermostats to 78 degrees, using fans to pre-cool homes during morning hours, and installing energy-efficient appliances all reduce the need for air conditioning. To qualify, the account must be at the same address and in good standing for the prior 12 months. Please allow up to 90 days for credit to reflect on billing statement. For more energy saving tips, visit anaheim.net/saveenergy. Individuals pose as City utility employees threatening to abruptly disconnect water and electric services if immediate payment is not made using cash or a prepaid card. Know that our employees will only make FRAUD ALERT courtesy calls. During these calls, customer service representatives ask customers to call back the authorized number listed on their bill to make payment over the phone. Staff will never visit businesses or homes to solicit payment. Here are some fraud prevention tips to keep you, family members, and friends from becoming a victim (see right). Please share this information. Your safety and security is our priority, and we encourage customers to contact us immediately at 714.765.3300 if you suspect fraudulent activity. These balloons become extremely dangerous when they come into contact with power lines, causing power outages and potential fires. If you are giving or receiving these balloons, we urge you to follow these important tips: • Avoid using metallic ribbons • Always tie down or attach a weight to balloons to prevent them from flying away • Do not release balloons into the sky, especially near power lines • Properly deflate balloons before disposing of them If you see a balloon (or any other object) entangled in an overhead power line, use the MyAnaheim app or call 714. 765.3300 to report the problem immediately.
