Francisco Meza Yolanda Servin Donald Hitzeman Joel Reyes Eduardo Baltadano Deacon Armando Servin John Gabriele John Lawson Mary (Becky) Bateman Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the people of our community and parish. A message from our Parochial Vicar, Fr. Sergio Renteria Thank you so much!!! Every beginning has an end, and my stay among you between friends and brothers of the Parish of St. Catherine of Alexandria is coming to an end. I came from blessed Finis Terrae of Cabo San Lucas, more than a thousand miles from here where God put me to work for your kingdom and share what I love and that is my priesthood. I learned so much in so little time and I thank God for this wonderful experience in my priestly ministry. Thanks to Bishop Gerald Barnes, our pastor Father Anthony, the emeritus pastors, deacons, all our parish staff, the committed laypeople with a large army working in the vineyard of the Lord and all who in daily life and every Sunday we come together at the banquet of the Eucharist. When you come from another country or from another diocese other than our diocese of San Bernardino there are policies to follow according to the pastoral structure and one of them is to have experience in two parishes to work in to continue serving the people of God who live in this portion of his beloved flock. I will always carry them in my heart, and especially in my prayers and daily Eucharist in silence and contemplation of nature, the temple of the glory of God. I make my own these words of St. John Paul II in his 5th. Aztec pastoral visit to my country: "I'm going but I'm not, I'm going, but I stay heart" (SJPII) Pray for me..... Fr. Sergio Renteria Sanchez Parochial Vicar We Celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ On Sunday, May 29, 2016 with a EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION All are invited to participate ________________________________ The feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi, is one time when our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is exposed not just to faithful Catholics but to all the world. This is a time when Catholics can show their love for Christ in the Real Presence by honoring Him in a very public way. It is also a wonderful way in which we can show our love for our neighbors by bringing Our Lord closer to them as well. So many conversions are a result of Eucharistic Adoration experienced from inside the Church and how many more there would be if we could reach those who only drive by the church in worldly pursuits. The Feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for Body of Christ), is a Roman Catholic Rite liturgical solemnity celebrating the tradition and belief in the body and blood of Jesus Christ and his Real Presence in the Eucharist. It emphasizes the joy of the institution of the Eucharist and this year, the feast is liturgically celebrated on Sunday, May 29, 2016. At the end of the 8AM Mass on this day, we will have a procession of the Blessed Sacrament displayed in a monstrance around the Church campus. This is in cooperation with the Vatican where a notable Eucharistic procession is presided over by the Pope each year in Rome, where it begins at the Arch basilica of St. John Lateran and makes its way to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, where it concludes. Please make plans to join us in this very special, once a year celebration. Please call the office for more information. Deployed Military Lt. Daniel Slater Tech Sgt. Paul M. Assure her of your love and support Much as you’d like to make all her suffering go away with the right words, her grief and loss won’t disappear after one conversation. Assure her of your friendship. Tell her you will be there for her and help her find healing. HELP is available Ask your friend if she has ever heard about help for people struggling after abortion. There are safe places where trained people can help her overcome grief and loss, and give her hope. There are counselors, priests and ministers prepared to help, as well as support groups and retreats. Offer her the name and phone number of the local Project Rachel. Give her this website address: www.hopeafterabortion.com. Spiritual healing Even a woman who doesn’t go to church or think of herself as religious can be afraid that God will never forgive her for having an abortion. She should know that God loves and forgives those who are sorrowful. He wants to comfort them and give them his peace. You might want to invite your friend to go to church with you, or ask her to consider talking it over with a priest or minister trained in post-abortion counseling. Some Bible passages and prayers relating to God’s love and mercy can be found at the Prayers section of www.hopeafterabortion.com. Yet each word has deep roots in our tradition. At an ordination we select men for service to the community. Ordo is a Latin word drawn not from pagan religious life but from Imperial Rome. It meant a distinct body standing apart from the people, such as a body of people responsible for civil governance, senators for example. Think of the selectmen or board of governors in your civic home, and you will get the idea. The church borrowed the term to describe the place of certain people within the people of God, thus the “order of deacons,” “the order of presbyters,” and even “the order of virgins, catechumens, widows, neophytes, penitents,” and so on, as distinct groups within the church. Just as ancient Rome had various uniforms for the ranks and stations in civil life, so too did certain garments give clues to membership in an “order” in the church. So, our tradition favors the idea of an ordination liturgy not as receiving something so much as being received. This is clearly expressed in the liturgy. The “kiss of peace” is given only by the ordaining bishop and priests to the newly “ordained,” not by the faithful, the deacons, or the concelebrating bishops who are present.
