LMS UPDATE March 2016
Greetings LMS Family,
I can’t believe our second trimester is almost over. Great learning is occurring here at
LMS! Students are working hard and their report cards are evidence of this great work!
Spring is just around the corner and we want to remind families of a few items.
PSSA testing is right around the corner! Please encourage your children to do their
best, get to bed early and eat a good breakfast during testing! NO CELL PHONES or
electronic devices will be allowed in the testing rooms. Students should turn their
phones off and place them in their lockers.
Please avoid the following dates when planning appointments for your children. Thank
you!
Tentative 2016 Testing Schedule:
April 11 – April 15 – English Language Arts PSSA 6th – 8th Grade
April 18 – April 22 – Math PSSA – 6th -- 8th Grade
April 25 – April 29 – Science PSSA – 8th Grade
We also remind students that cell phones should be turned off when they are in the
building and stored in their lockers. Please remind your children to lock their lockers
and not share lockers or combinations with anyone.

NOTICIAS de LMS Marzo 2016
Saludos Familia de LMS,
No puedo creer que ya el segundo trimestre se está terminando. ¡En LMS está
ocurriendo gran aprendizaje! ¡Los estudiantes están trabajando duro y sus
calificaciones son evidencia de este gran trabajo! La primavera está a la vuelta de la
esquina y queremos recordarle a las familias algunas cosas.
¡Las evaluaciones PSSA están a la vuelta de la esquina! ¡Por favor anime a sus hijos a
hacer lo mejor, acostarse temprano y comer un buen desayuno durante las pruebas!
NO se permitirán TELÉFONOS CELULARES o aparatos electrónicos en los salones
donde se estarán dando las evaluaciones. Los estudiantes deben apagar sus teléfonos
y guardarlos en sus casilleros. Por favor, evite las siguientes fechas en la planificación
de citas para sus hijos. ¡Gracias!

Recordamos también a los estudiantes que los teléfonos celulares deben estar

combinación con nadie.

Art News!
Mrs. Templin’s 8th grade classes
have started their multi-cultural
project. The classes are doing
Greek theater masks and have
researched
the
history
surrounding
the
festivals,
costumes, props and masks that
are part of the ancient Greek
culture.
The masks are being
constructed from paper mache
and will be painted after the
masks are fully constructed. The
students are creating this as a
team with each team choosing
the type of mask they wanted to
create.
After researching and
doing a rough sketch, the teams
chose from three distinct types of
masks. They could choose
comedy, tragedy, or satyr.
We are looking forward to
seeing these exciting finished
projects in preparation for our
multi-cultural event in the spring.

Our next Book Fair will be held from
March 14th through the 18th. We will
be open during the science fair.
Stop in and find a new book to
brighten your day as we face the
beginning of the spring months. We
will be open one evening during the
science fair activities. Stay tuned
for the dates and time coming home
with your students. The money we
make from your support of our book
fair helps to purchase new books
for the library as well as supports
our teachers. Stop in and see what
is new!

Excellence in ESL!
The ESOL students completed the ACCESS test during the
month of February. Thank you, students, for all of your hard
work during testing.
Also, congratulations to the many students in our department
for receiving Honor Roll in marking period 3. Keep up the good
work!
¡Noticias de Arte!
Las clases de 8vo grado de la
Sra. Templin han comenzado sus
proyectos multi-culturales. Las
clases
están
preparando
Máscaras del Teatro Griego y han
hecho investigaciones sobre la
historia que rodea a los festivales,
el vestuario, los accesorios y las
máscaras que son parte de la
cultura Griega antigua .
Las máscaras están siendo
construidas de papel Mache y
serán pintadas después que se
completen. Los estudiantes están
haciendo esto en equipo. Cada
equipo escoge el tipo de máscara
que desea crear. Después de
hacer investigaciones y un
bosquejo general, los equipos
escogieron entre tres distintos
tipos de máscaras: Comedia,
Tragedia, o Sátiro.
Esperamos poder ver estos
proyectos
interesantes
terminados en preparación para
nuestro evento multicultural en la
primavera.

Biblioteca de LMS?

Estaremos abiertos durante la Feria

según enfrentamos el inicio de los

abiertos una noche durante las
actividades de la feria de ciencia.

dinero que hacemos de su apoyo
de nuestra feria de libros ayuda con

Los estudiantes de ESOL completaron las evaluaciones ACCESS
durante el mes de febrero. Gracias, estudiantes, por todo su trabajo
duro durante la prueba.
También, felicidades a los muchos estudiantes en nuestro
departamento por haber estado en el Cuadro de Honor durante el 3er
periodo de notas. ¡Sigan haciendo un buen trabajo!
LMS IS PROUD OF OUR POETS!
Mrs. Daubert’s period 10-11 Communication Arts class
participated in Lebanon City’s First Friday Artwalk on February 5th.
The students hosted and performed in a poetry slam at the
Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts building to a packed house of
approximately 50 audience members. This was a special project
the class completed as part of their poetry unit. Everything for the
event was student led and student created. Some students read
poems from their favorite authors while others performed original
poetry. Some students chose to stay “behind the scenes” creating
announcements, invitations, programs and generally helping to
keep the event running smoothly. We are SO PROUD of the hard
work these students accomplished!

La clase de artes comunicativas de la Sra. Daubert (periodo
10-11) participó en la Caminata de Arte de la Ciudad de Lebanon
(First Friday Artwalk) el 5 de febrero. Los estudiantes patrocinaron
y participaron en una competencia de poesía en el edificio del
Consejo de Artes de Lebanon Valley para una casa llena de
aproximadamente 50 miembros de audiencia. Esto fue un
proyecto especial completado como parte de su unidad de poesía.
Todo para los eventos fue hecho y creado por los estudiantes.
Algunos estudiantes leyeron poemas de sus autores favoritos,
mientras que otros realizaron poesía original. Algunos estudiantes
optaron por permanecer "detrás de las escenas" creando
anuncios, invitaciones, programas y generalmente ayudando a
mantener el evento funcionando sin problemas. ¡Estamos MUY
ORGULLOSOS del duro trabajo que estos estudiantes lograron!

6th Grade Team 1
Team 1 spotlight students for the month of March are Natasha
Rivera and Freddy Batiz. Your teachers are very proud of you!
Natasha’s stand out quality is
being nice. In her free time she
enjoys playing games with her
family and playing video
games. Her long-term goal is
to be an orthodontist when she
gets out of school. A short -term
goal that she hopes to achieve
is to have superior honor roll for
the rest of the year. Her
favorite subject is math,
because she likes the centers
and all the different concepts
they learn about. Right now you
will find Natasha reading Roll of
Thunder, Hear My Cry.
Freddy’s stand out quality is
his personality. In his free time
you will find him hanging out
with his friends and practicing
playing his flute. A short-term
goal that he has is to be part of
the track team next year. A
long-term goal that he has is to
get a job helping animals.
Freddy’s favorite subject is
math, because he is very
interested in it. Right now you
will find him reading the book
The Boy of the Painted Cave.

6to Grado Equipo 1
Los estudiantes sobresalientes del Equipo 1 para el mes de marzo
son Natasha Rivera y Freddy Batiz. ¡Sus maestros están muy
orgullosos de ustedes!
La cualidad sobresaliente de
Natasha es ser amable. En su
tiempo libre le gusta jugar
juegos con su familia y jugar
videojuegos. Su objetivo a
largo plazo es ser ortodoncista
cuando salga de la escuela. Un
objetivo a corto plazo es estar
en el cuadro de honor superior
para el resto del año. Su clase
favorita es matemática, porque
a ella le gusta los centros y
todos los diferentes conceptos
que aprende. En el presente
puede encontrar a Natasha
leyendo Roll of Thunder, Hear
My Cry.
La cualidad sobresaliente de
Freddy es su personalidad. En
su tiempo libre lo encontrarás
saliendo con sus amigos, y
practicando con su flauta. Un
objetivo a corto plazo es que
quiere formar parte del equipo
de atletismo el próximo año. Un
objetivo a largo plazo es que él
quiere conseguir un trabajo
ayudando a los animales. La
clase favorita de Freddy es
matemática porque le interesa

Team 4 would like to thank Ruben Sanchez and Amea Green for being
outstanding role models and an absolute pleasure to be around daily! Your hard
work ethic and kindness does not go unnoticed! We are so very proud of you!

Philly Zoo on March 22nd! Please make sure your student turned in their
