The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) at New York University presents Celebrate Quechua! An Evening of Quechua/Kichwa Language and Culture Odi Gonzales Language Lecturer, Quechua Language, NYU Friday, December 17 - 6:00pm Auditorium of KJCC, 53 Washington Square South, New York University Closing Remarks: Ada Ferrer (CLACS, NYU) Odi Gonzales is currently Quechua Language Lecturer at CLACS at NYU. He has published several books of poetry including Juego de niños (1988), Valle Sagrado (1993), Almas en Pena (1998), Takiparwa/22 poemas de KilkuWarak’a (translation and study of Quechua poet Andrés Alencastre, 2000 ), Tunupa/el Libro de las Sirenas (2002), La Escuela de Cusco (2005), and Vírgenes Urbanas/Fotografías de Ana de Orbegoso (2007). In 1992 he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Poesía César Vallejo del Diario El Comercio as well as the Premio de Poesía de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos de Lima. He is currently developing four language volumes of Idioma Runa Simi, a manuscript of La incorporación de la memoria oral en el discurso literario de José María Arguedas, and manuscript about La Elegía Apu Inka Atawallpaman, the first document of Incan resistance (Siglo XVI). Odi Gonzales (Quechua Language, NYU) will present a selection of Quechua poetry from his books Tunupa/el Libro de las Sirenas, and Virgenes Urbanas. He will then direct NYU Quechua students in a public performance. The night will also include a display of ceramics by Ecuadorian Artist Manuel Paucar and a live Quechua music performance by Guillermo Guerrero (Tahuantinsuyo), Andrés Jimenez, and Elva Jimenez. semana runasimimanta / semana de kichwa Quechua Week 2010 All events are free and open to the public.
