Information Parents Need to Know About Prekindergarten and Kindergarten
Who may attend kindergarten in 2013-2014?
Any child who lives in the district and is 5 on or before September 1,
2013, may be enrolled.
Who may attend prekindergarten in 2013-2014?
Round Rock ISD offers half-day prekindergarten classes for
children who are four years old on or before September 1, live in the
district, and:
have a limited ability to speak and/or comprehend the English
language; or
are homeless; or
whose family income allows the child to qualify for free or
reduced lunch; or
active duty uniformed members, which includes parents or
guardians, of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Coast
Guard who are assigned to duty stations in Texas or who are
Texans who have eligible children residing in Texas; or
Guard and Reserve-Activated / Mobilized uniform members of
the Texas National Guard-Army or Air Guard or the Activated /
Mobilized members of the Reserve components of the Army,
Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Coast Guard who are Texas
residents regardless of the location of the reserve unit; or
have military parents who are missing in action or who have died;
or
is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of
Family and Protective Services following an adversary hearing
held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code.
What do I need to take to registration?
You should take with you:
Proof of residence (contract on house, lease agreement, actual
title to house, or current RRISD tax statement)
Child’s official birth certificate
Child’s record of immunizations
Child’s Social Security card (Preferred but will not prevent enrollment)
Can I still register for kindergarten on March 5 if I don’t have all the
above documents?
Yes. The school will give you notice of when these are due. Your child
will not be able to start school until all the information is provided to
the school.
What if I don’t have my child’s official birth certificate?
An official birth certificate may be obtained by calling the state health
department in the state where your child was born. In Texas, you may
call the Bureau of Vital Statistics, Austin, at 458-7111 or visit
http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/vs/. Please allow sufficient time for your
request to be processed. An official birth certificate is preferred, but
hospital certificates with appropriate signatures are acceptable.
What kind of immunizations does my PK or K child need?
Your child will not be admitted to school unless (s)he has had
immunizations for:

DTP series – four doses with 1 dose on or after
4 birthday

Polio – three doses with 1 dose on or after 4 birthday
Measles, stMumps, Rubella (MMR) – two doses 30 days apart, on
or after 1 birthday; one dose on/after 1st birthday for PK
Hepatitis B – Three doses ofst Hepatitis B are required.

Hepatitis A – two doses, 1 dose on or after 1 birthday, given 6
months apart

Varicella – two doses 30 days apart, on or after 1 birthday; one
dose on/after 1st birthday for PK
Some of the immunizations require three doses a few months apart;
therefore, we advise you to begin them early and complete them in
mid-August. Contact your family doctor or county health office for the
immunizations. Immunization requirements may change so check the
RRISD website for updates.

Religious and Conscientious Exemptions will be valid for only two
years. These students may be excluded from school in times of
emergency or epidemics declared by the commissioner of public
health.
Medical Exemptions must be signed by an MD or DO. In the statement
it must state that the vaccine required is medically contraindicated or
poses a significant risk to the well being of the child or any member of
his household. Unless it is written in the statement that a lifelong
condition exists, the exemption is valid for only one year from the date
signed by the physician, not the date you receive it.
Is my child required to have a physical and dental exam before he or
she starts school?
Although these are not required, you would be wise to schedule these
checkups. Your doctor, dentist, or the county health office will give
you a written report. Bring this report to the school when you register
your child.
May I leave my child at school before starting time and after closing
time each day?
No. Teachers must plan and get materials ready for classes; children
cannot be supervised by school personnel.
How can I get more information if I still have questions?
If you have additional questions, the office staff of the elementary
school in your neighborhood will be able to help you.
Including the above requirements, PK children must also have:
Pneumococcal (PCV7) – one dose on or after 24 months of age
HIB – three doses with 1 dose on or after 1 year of age OR 2 doses
if first dose was given between 12-14 months. Only 1 dose
needed if given on or after 15 months of age

residiendo en Texas; o
sean hijos de miembros uniformados de la Guardia y Reserva
Activada/Movilizada de la Guardia-Ejército Nacional de Texas o
Guardia Aérea, o miembros de la Reserva Activada-Movilizada
componentes del Ejército, Marina, Fuerza Aérea o Guardia
Costera que sean residentes de Texas sin importar donde se
encuentre estacionada la unidad; o
sean hijos de padres militares que se encuentren desaparecidos
en combate o hayan fallecido; o
estén o hayan estado bajo el cuidado del Departamento de
Servicios para la Familia y Protección de Texas, después de un
juicio en contra como se especifica en la Sección 262.201 del
Código Familiar.
¿Qué necesito traer el día de la matriculación?

¿Puedo matricular a mis niños el 5 de marzo si no tengo todos los
documentos mencionados arriba?
Sí, la escuela le dará la fecha límite para traer estos documentos. Su
niño o niña no podrá empezar la escuela hasta que lleve toda la

¿Qué pasa si no tengo el acta de nacimiento oficial de mi niño o niña?

Exenciones religiosas y a conciencia serán validas solo por dos años.

No es requisito pero es recomendado. Su médico general, dentista o la
oficina del departamento de salud del condado le dará un reporte por
escrito. Lleve ese reporte a la escuela cuando vaya a matricular a su
niño o niña.
¿Puedo dejar a mi hijo o hija en la escuela antes de la hora de clases y
después de las clases?
No. Debido a que los maestros necesitan tiempo para planificar y
preparar los materiales de clases, no podrán supervisar a los niños.
¿Cómo puedo obtener más información si aún tengo preguntas?
