race to the top supplemental scholarship 2014 Find your future Your Associates Degree is waiting! The Race to the Top Supplemental Scholarship (RTT) is available now until December 2016 to enhance the quality of childhood care and education in Oregon by supporting Early Childhood Educators to obtain an Associates of Arts or Applied Sciences degree (AA/AAS). Scholarship funds are available for students working toward their AA or AAS degree at an Oregon Community College with a focus in Early Childhood Care & Education. Act now! The RTT funding will end December 2016. The scholarship will fund direct costs, tuition and fees not covered by other grants or scholarships you are receiving, as well as, indirect expenses. Supplemental funds ($60 per credit) will go directly to you to help with the cost of books, supplies, and other indirect expenses. • You must work directly with or supervise someone who works directly with children at least 20 hours a week in an Office of Child Care (Certified or Registered) child care facility. • You must already have an Oregon Registry Step 3 or above at the time you submit the application. • You must be willing to participate in an Associate of Arts or Applied Sciences (AA/AAS) degree program at an Oregon Community College, working toward the completion of your degree. Priority will be given to those planning to complete a degree with a focus in Early Childhood Care or Education or related field and those planning to complete their degree by 2016. How To Apply For Scholarship 1 To receive scholarship support, please submit the RTT Supplemental application by August 1, 2014 to the Oregon Center for Career Development (OCCD): PSU-OCCD, Attn: Scholarship, PO BOX 751 Portland, OR 97207 or Fax: 503-725-5430 or Email: [email protected] You will receive a letter informing you of the status of your application by 8/20/2014 Tuition will be paid directly to the community colleges at the beginning of each term and supplemental funds for expenses will be issued to you within a month of the beginning of each term. 2 Make an appointment with your advisor in the academic department of your college. Plan your academic courseload and register for classes. To be considered for funding for the Fall 2014 term you will need to submit proof of course registration with the scholarship application (Due August 1, 2014). However, students are not required to start course work Fall term to participate in the program. Once you are approved, you will be required to send proof of course registration for following terms, prior to the beginning of each term. 3 Scholarship recipients are expected to complete the following in order to receive their award through the academic year: NT ER F OR C A R E E R DE VE ENT PM • OR E GO N LO CE • Submit completion documentation in the form of transcripts for coursework completed at the end of each term • Maintain a minimum of a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) • Maintain employment in a licensed or registered child care program • Contact us immediately if you do not use your award • Submit proof of course registration for the following terms, before the beginning of each term • Apply for FAFSA and other financial aid programs for the 2015 year. Se dará prioridad a aquellos que planean completar el asociado con un enfoque en educación, o el cuidado temprano infantil, o algo relacionado y aquellos que planean completar su certificado en el año 2016.
