Your Associates Degree is waiting! The Race to the Top Supplemental Scholarship (RTT) is
available now until December 2016 to enhance the quality of childhood care and education
in Oregon by supporting Early Childhood Educators to obtain an Associates of Arts or Applied
Sciences degree (AA/AAS). Scholarship funds are available for students working toward their
AA or AAS degree at an Oregon Community College with a focus in Early Childhood Care &
Education. Act now! The RTT funding will end December 2016.
The scholarship will fund direct costs, tuition and fees not covered by other grants or scholarships you are receiving, as well as,
indirect expenses. Supplemental funds ($60 per credit) will go directly to you to help with the cost of books, supplies, and other
indirect expenses.
• You must work directly with or supervise someone who works directly with children at least 20 hours a week in an Office of
Child Care (Certified or Registered) child care facility.
• You must already have an Oregon Registry Step 3 or above at the time you submit the application.
• You must be willing to participate in an Associate of Arts or Applied Sciences (AA/AAS) degree program at an Oregon
Community College, working toward the completion of your degree. Priority will be given to those planning to complete a
degree with a focus in Early Childhood Care or Education or related field and those planning to complete their degree by 2016.
How To Apply For Scholarship

To receive scholarship support, please submit the RTT Supplemental application by August 1, 2014 to the Oregon

You will receive a letter informing you of the status of your application by 8/20/2014
Tuition will be paid directly to the community colleges at the beginning of each term and supplemental funds for
expenses will be issued to you within a month of the beginning of each term.

Make an appointment with your advisor in the academic department of your college. Plan your academic courseload
and register for classes. To be considered for funding for the Fall 2014 term you will need to submit proof of course
registration with the scholarship application (Due August 1, 2014). However, students are not required to start course
work Fall term to participate in the program. Once you are approved, you will be required to send proof of course
registration for following terms, prior to the beginning of each term.

Scholarship recipients are expected to complete the following in order to receive their award through the academic year:

• Submit completion documentation in the form of transcripts for coursework completed at the end of each term
• Maintain a minimum of a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA)
• Maintain employment in a licensed or registered child care program
• Contact us immediately if you do not use your award
• Submit proof of course registration for the following terms, before the beginning of each term
• Apply for FAFSA and other financial aid programs for the 2015 year. Please note that the RTT scholarship is considered
taxable income and may also affect your financial aid package.

Su título asociado universitario lo está esperando. La beca suplementaria “Race to the Top”
estará disponible hasta diciembre de 2016. El propósito de esta beca es mejorar la calidad
del cuidado y educación infantil en Oregon y apoyar a los educadores de la edad temprana
a obtener un título asociado de artes o ciencias aplicadas (AA/AAS). Las becas están disponibles para los estudiantes de un colegio comunitario del estado de Oregon, que están
estudiando hacia un título AA o AAS con un enfoque en la educación temprana infantil.
Actúe ahora! Los fondos de ésta beca terminarán en diciembre de 2016.
La beca financiará costos directos, matrícula, y gastos no cubiertos por ayuda financiera. Los fondos suplementarios ($60 por
crédito) se destinarán directamente a usted para ayudar con el costo de libros, materiales y otros gastos indirectos.
• Debe trabajar, por lo menos 20 horas semanales, directamente con niños o supervisar a alguien que trabaja directamente
con los niños en un centro o hogar de cuidado infantil (certificado o registrado).
• Debe estar en el Paso 3 del Registro de Oregon al momento de presentar la solicitud.
• Debe estar dispuesto a participar hacia un certificado de Asociado de Artes (AA) o Ciencias Aplicadas (AAS) de un colegio
comunitario en Oregon, o trabajando hacia la terminación de ese certificado. Se dará prioridad a aquellos que planean
completar el asociado con un enfoque en educación, o el cuidado temprano infantil, o algo relacionado y aquellos que
planean completar su certificado en el año 2016.

Usted recibirá una carta informándole de la situación de su solicitud el 20 de Agosto del 2014. La matrícula será
pagada directamente a los colegios comunitarios al comienzo de cada trimestre y fondos suplementarios para los
gastos se le entregarán a usted cada trimestre.

Haga una cita con su asesor en el departamento académico de su colegio comunitario. Planifique su curso académico y
regístrese para las clases. Para ser considerado para la financiación para el trimestre del otoño 2014, usted tendrá que
presentar comprobante de registro con la solicitud de beca (antes del 1 de agosto de 2014). Sin embargo, para obtener
las becas no es necesario iniciar las clases en el otoño 2014. Una vez que usted esté aprobado, se le pedirá que, antes
del comienzo de cada trimestre, envíe comprobante de registro de clases.
