Father Mark-David Janus, CSP, President and Publisher of
Paulist Press and I concelebrated mass with the Pope on
Tuesday, March 17th at his residence at Casa Santa Marta. In
a passionate homily about mercy, he asked: "Who are you
who shuts the door of your heart to a man, a woman who
wants to improve, to return back into the people of God, because the Holy Spirit has stirred his or her heart? If people
are hurt, what does Jesus do? Scolds them because they are
hurt? No, he carries them. This is called mercy."
The theme of mercy in the pope’s homily coincided so well
with the purpose of our meeting. We presented Walter Cardinal Kasper’s newly published Paulist Press book, "Pope
Francis' Revolution of Tenderness and Mercy,” which is
available in the Welcome Center Bookstore.
Only a few days before our arrival, Pope Francis announced
an Extraordinary Jubilee Year dedicated to Mercy beginning
on December 8, 2015. In the spirit of Pope Francis’ theme of
mercy as the hallmark of his papacy, I presented a short film,
“Owning Our Faith” produced by the Out at Saint Paul ministry.
The film documents the experience of gay and lesbian CathoReligious Education

A Word from Servant of God,
Father Isaac Hecker, CSP
Founder of Paulists and
1st Pastor of our Parish
Again, the more energetic & naturally gifted a people, the
more grand under the influence of divine grace will be their
destiny; for grace does not set aside, but answers, purifies,
elevates & invigorates nature. The authority of the Church
does not suppress the liberty of the will, but directs it, enlarges its sphere of action, & consecrates its activity to noble
enterprises.

Owning Our Faith
Ser propietario de Nuestra Fe
Padre Mark-David Janus, CSP, presidente y
Paz,
Padre Gil
