WASHING TECHNIQUES Soap making / the laundry / Types ofcolanders MAKING YOUR OWN SOAP Ingredients: 250 grams of soda. 2 Kg of lard or tallow from the fat of the lambs. 5 litres of water. Preparation: Work in a well ventilated room or outdoors. 1st: Put a pot of water on high heat, and then slowly add the caustic soda. 2nd: Pour in the fat or lamb while constantly stirring in circles in the same direction, for about two hours. 3rd: The soda corrodes the organics, dissolving the fat to form a viscous mass with the consistency of soft cream and decanting to the bottom of the pot, lye (lexiba), which is very abrasive. You will know the work is done well when the lye from the bottom is poured in the Surface and returns to the bottom without mixing with the soapy paste. 4th: Turn off the heat and remove the dough with a spatula to drain the lye. 5th. Place the dough in wooden crates or boxes with low profiles, making paper moulds to protect it. 6th: The Lye is collected in suitable containers. It is very abrasive and can damage your hands by touch. 7th. After a night of rest, the dough hardens as it cools, “curdling” and then can be cut into manageable pieces with a wire or guitar-string knife. THE WASH 3rd.
