ElegibiJidad de los estudiantes:
Los estudiantes deben participar en el Programa Reflections @ de National PTA a
traves de una PTA/PTSA local en regia. Los grupos de padres no afiliados a National PTA no cumplen con los
requisitos para patrocinar este programa. Es responsabilidad de las PTA/PTSA estatal y local determinar la
elegibilidad de cada estudiante para el Programa Reflections" de National PTA. Los estudiantes pueden desarrollar su
participaclon dentro 0 fuera de la escuela.
Divisiones de grados: Los estudiantes pueden participar en el Programa Reflections" de National PTA en la division
adecuada para su grado.
Primaria: Preescolar - Grado 2
Escuela Media: Grados 6-8
Intermedia: Grados 3 - 5
Escuela Preparatoria: Grados 9-12
Artista Especial: Cualquier grado
Si los estudiantes no entran en una division de grado especifica, National PTA sugiere que se agrupen en las
siguientes divisiones.

Proceso de participacion
de estudiantes:
Los estudiantes participan en el Programa Reflections' de National PTA
a nivellocal. Las fechas del programa, los plazos y los procedimientos locales se determinan en los niveles estatales y
locales. Se recomienda a los estudiantes que averiglien en los programas locales la informacion especifica de los
trarnites locales y los plazas del programa.
Solo los estudiantes que pasan a la siguiente ronda deberan completar la forma en linea de participacion de
estudiantes. Los dernas estudiantes participantes quizo deban completar una forma local con fines de seguimiento.
Requisitos
del programa
y tecnicos:

Todas las obras de arte deben tener un titulo y todas las participaciones deben incluir una declaracion del
artista. La declaraclon del artista comunica que inspire la obra, como se relaciona con el tema y el contenido de
la obra. La declaracion debe incluir una oracion como minimo pero no debe superar las 100 palabras.

Cada partlclpaclon
debe ser una obra original de un solo estudiante.
Ningun adulto puede alterar la integridad
creativa de la obra de un estudiante. Debido a que el programa esta disefiado para alentar y reconocer la

About SBSD Band
The Solana Beach School District Band is an after school program of the Solana Beach Child Development Center. It is
open to all 4th-6th graders in the Solana Beach School District. The band meets one day per week, after school, at
Skyline Elementary. Band tuition is $650.00 for the year, which includes 28 classes, concerts, school events, music
book, and t-shirt.
Beginning Band
Tuesdays, Oct 2, 2012 – May 28, 2013 from 3:15-5:15 in the Skyline Activity Center. Students do not
need any prior experience to join Beginning Band. Instrument specific coaching is taught by qualified
musicians during the first hour of class.
Advanced Band
Thursdays, Oct 4, 2012 – May 30, 2013 from 3:15–5:15 in the Skyline Activity Center. Students must
have participated in Beginning Band or Summer Band or have experience playing a band instrument before
registering for the Advanced Band.
Instrument choices and rentals
Students need an instrument of their choice to participate in the band program. Students may pick from
flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba and percussion (i.e.
drums). Families can choose to purchase an instrument or rent one. A music store representative will be
on hand at the Band Information Night to assist with instrument rentals.

can try out the different instruments.

About The Director
Frank Glasson, a native of San Diego, has performed both locally and abroad in the trumpet sections of the San Diego
Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Opera, Middel Deutsche Rundfunk Orchestra of Germany, Cape Town Symphony
Orchestra, State Theater and National Chamber Orchestras of South Africa and has appeared as a soloist with the latter
two. Also an accomplished jazz performer, Frank received a Grammy nomination for “Best Jazz Instrumental Solo” for
his improvised solos on the recording “Jazztet” in 2006. Frank is a Yamaha performing artist and can currently be
seen performing with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, Pacific Symphony of Orange County, Tokyo Opera, La Jolla
Playhouse, Broadway San Diego, and Classics 4 Kids Orchestra. He maintains a private teaching studio and served as
conductor of the Pretoria Youth Symphony (South Africa), Jazz Band Director at Palomar College, adjunct Trumpet
Professor at San Diego State University and as conductor of the CYO Wind Ensemble. Frank served as President of the
American Federation of Musicians, Local 325 for 8 years.

school district. I am passionate about music and believe that my dynamic approach will inspire the band to new heights

Signed registration forms and attached fees can be mailed to the SBCDC Office or dropped off at your child’s
school.
Band fees can be paid by check (made out to SBCDC) or by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
There is a $50.00 return check fee.
Classes are not held during parent-teacher conference weeks, school holidays, and any days school is not in
session. Please refer to the enrichment calendar.
No refunds, unless the class is cancelled due to low enrollment. Your check will be shredded.
Students need an instrument to participate. The music book is included in the fee.
Disneyland trip is optional and is an extra fee. Disneyland details will be announced
Limited scholarships are available on a first-come first-served basis. A copy of your approved “Free and
Reduced Lunch” letter for the current school year needs to be attached to qualify.
Band is not pro-rated if enrolling after the class start date.
Students must respect the property of the school, class, and the instructor. The student is expected to
follow school rules and exhibit good behavior. The student will be dropped from the class if a discipline
problem develops. Refunds will not be issued.
Call the Solana Beach Child Development Center if your child will be absent from class.
Students are not escorted to class. However, CDC does check to make sure all students have arrived.
Students will be dismissed according to their registration form.
Students must be picked up immediately at class dismissal time in the Skyline Activity Center. Students not
picked up at the end of class will be signed into CDC and all applicable fees will be charged.

Fall 2012
After-School Hoops with One on One Basketball (8 classes, 10/1-12/10) This instructional session combines fundamental skill instruction and
coordinated team competition with the goal of providing an enjoyable and educational after-school athletic event. Participants benefit by
improving their individual skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and defending while at the same time learning how to work
within the framework of a team. After School Hoops provides children with an opportunity to improve their overall physical fitness, develop
sportsmanship and gain an understanding of the game of basketball. GRADES: K-6
Chess with Mountain Lake Chess Camp, directed by International Chess Master Larry Evans (8 classes, 10/1-12/10) Socratic style seminars for
all levels. Practice joins theory with play sessions every week and a team event on our life size chess set for the final class. "The Evans Method"
is used in dozens of schools throughout San Diego and was featured on The Tonight Show and Inside Edition. Students learn in an exciting,
cumulative merit forum that rewards participation with prizes every week and individualized trophies for all participants. GRADES: K-6
Showstopper Choir with Jeann Hartley (8 classes, 10/1-12-10) This class builds esteem and confidence being in front of audiences, teamwork,
stage manners, while singing and dancing! Jeann has over 25 years experience performing and teaching musical theater. GRADES: 1st-6th
Tuesdays
Clay with Patty Yockey of Kidz N Fun (8 classes, 10/2-12/4) Fun and creativity will develop through the exploration of clay! This after school
survey course will offer the student an opportunity to gain a basic foundation in hand building techniques. This examination of pinch, coil, and
slab construction will produce multiple projects including masks, mugs, vases, plates, sculptures and animals. All clay, tools, firing and glazing
are included in the course. Please wear clothes that can get messy. GRADES: K-6
Guitar with Jim Nichols (28 classes, 10/2-5/28) A class designed for beginning through intermediate players, with an emphasis on having fun
while introducing and reviewing guitar basics, developing and improving playing skills, and increasing overall understanding of how music
works! Popular songs from classics such as the Beatles to current favorites like Taylor Swift will be introduced each session. Materials including
song sheets will be provided and will be geared to the student's skill level and interests. GRADES: 4th-6th

LEGO Engineering with Play-Well TEKnologies (8 classes, 10/3-12-5) Play-Well TEKnologies provides project-based programs designed to teach
principles and methods of engineering, architecture, and science using LEGO™ and other building systems. We strive to build problem-solving
skills, provide an opportunity for creative expression, foster a greater appreciation of how things work, and encourage the qualities of
inquisitiveness, self-reliance, and self-confidence in children. We do this in the context of fun-filled engineering and architectural projects that
both the children and our instructors enjoy! (This class is not affiliated with the LEGO Group.) GRADES: K-4

Introduction to Acting with San Diego Junior Theatre (8 classes, 10/3-12/5) Learn basic acting and storytelling techniques, while enhancing
social skills and making friends. Creative drama activities and games will help children learn to communicate and interact in a group setting.
This class will teach the use of the actor's tools of voice, body, imagination, and teamwork. Students will get a chance to create plays and
become different characters that they will present at an informal open sharing for family and friends on the last day of class. GRADES: 4th-6th

Energy, Forces, & Flight with Mad Science (8 classes, 10/4-12/6) Join Mad Science and learn the fundamentals of flight as you experiment with
a variety of gliders and build your very own high-flying stunt plane! Uncover the mysterious wonders of air pressure as you suspend ping-pong
balls in a blast of air. Explore the mystery of chemistry as you mix and swirl chemicals to create bubbling reactions. Dive into an investigation
of waves, density and buoyancy and make your own multi-density wave modulator. Experiment with inertia and many other fantastic forces
and tour the electron freeway as you examine current and static electricity. Take home projects include Skyhawk Plane, Crystal Garden, Wave
Modulator, Electroscope, Vortex Generator and more! GRADES: K-3
Stop Motion Animation with Vision Tech Camps (8, 1.5 hour classes, 10/4-12/6) Take your Lego building skills to another level by animating it!
You'll use professional cameras and techniques to create stop motion videos, one picture at a time. At the end of the session, you'll get to
keep all your photos and videos on your own complimentary flash drive to bring home to share with family and friends. This class engages
children in hands on technology experiments. Students will bring their stories to life using stop-motion animation. The videos are usually a few
minutes in length and can be completed individually or as a group. No prior experience in animation required. GRADES: 4th-6th
Fridays
Radical Reptiles and Friends (8 classes, 10/5-12/7) John Taibe from Radical Reptiles and Friends is coming to Skyline to introduce the children
to a unique menagerie of live animals including snakes, frogs, turtles, tortoises, lizards, insects, and other creepy crawlies. As the children
explore the animal kingdom, they will have a unique hands-on experience enhanced by art, games, and various projects related to these
creatures. GRADES: K-6
Rock Star with Star Inc. (13 classes, 10/5-1/25) Professional rockers teach kids how to play the guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, compose songs,
and perform classic Rock 'n' Roll hits. RockSTAR harnesses the cognitive, social, and creative benefits of music education in a program that's
for ANYONE, because no previous experience is required! With celebrity support from rock icons such as Slash, Santana, Rod Stewart, BB King,
and Gene Simmons, this is a guitar wailing, bass thumping, drum crashing experience you won't want to miss. This session will cumulate in a

After-School Enrichment Program
The Solana Beach Child Development Center’s After-School Enrichment Program
classes are open to all students in the Solana Beach School District. Priority is given
to the students of their home school. However, students may enroll in an
enrichment class at a school other than their own if space is available.
Enrichment Calendar:
• Eight week, Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions are available.
• Classes are not held parent conference weeks, school holidays, and all days
school is not in session. (Solana Pacific does not hold classes the week of
sixth grade camp).
• Adhere to the Enrichment Calendar for exact dates.
Registration and Fees:
• Signed registration forms and attached fees can be mailed to the SBCDC
Office or dropped off at your child’s school by the deadline.
• Class fees can be paid by check (made out to SBCDC) or by credit card
